Recently rented party chairs and tables from True Value, when I received them, they immediately had me sign a receipt document before they even had me look at the table and chairs. Their form has you automatically opt-in for an accidental damage waiver, and has you sign to opt-out as opposed to letting you choose if you want it. When they delivered the tables and chairs, they were of inferior quality and I didnt have much choice but to use them since the party was that day. The tables were very beaten up and aged, had obviously been stored outside and exposed to the weather, and one of them had globs of gum on the underside that they hadnt cared enough to freeze and scrap off. Luckily we covered them with linens so this wasnt noticeable. However, of the 30 chairs they delivered, they were all dirty and had black scuff marks all over them. We had to wash every one of the chairs to the best to our ability, but the black marks wouldnt come out even with a Mr. Clean Magic Clean Eraser. We ended up leaving three of the chairs in our garage because they were simply not presentable. We felt embarrassed even using the chairs, but luckily the linens, glassware and center pieces we had set up were attractive enough that they distracted away from the appearance of the chairs. They didnt even tell me when they were going to pick-up the chairs when we were done; they had an all-day window on the receipt. Had to call to get a real approximate time. Its also not the first time Ive had trouble with this store. They have constant stock-outs of on-sale items. You can almost assume that if the deal is good that they will stock-out, and if you take a rain check, it "may" be in the store 3 - 4 days later.

I dropped off a blower to have two screws replaced and when I picked it up they did services I didnt ask for or agree to have done to the tune of over $86. They couldnt understand why I was upset. No one got my permission to do the work, they just did it and told me to pay for it. If you take your car in for an oil change would you pay for a brake job too? The owner didnt even want to return my phone calls. Will never do business with them again. Make sure you get in writing what you want them to do or you may be in trouble.

I shop there regularly in the Willimantic, CT store. The staff are friendly and helpful and I can often get advice on projects. I am a farmer and use many tools and other hardware. I generally find what I need and if not they order it for me. This is like the small hardware stores of my youth but they carry a lot more stock. Overall I greatly prefer it to the big box stores.

Excellent customer service. Even the young lady at the register Bethany. I had bought paint and she notice that I didnt have paint stirrers. She had them right underneath the register witch was very convenient I didnt have to get out of line. A+.
