This is the best fabric store in Connecticut, hands down. If youre not headed into NYC for the Garment District or the Lower East Side, this is the place to be. The staff is very helpful and give great advice. I cant imagine where all the complaints on these reviews are coming from. I have been to this store on countless occasions and have always had a wonderful experience and have observed nothing but expert advice and attention for others, whether someones a newcomer to sewing and needs help with a zipper, or whether the customer is a couture seamstress looking for something specific. The shop mostly deals in higher-end fabrics, such as Irish linens, Italian suitings, designer overruns and the like. You will not find great bargains here, but you might ask for a discount if youre buying a lot. They have a small selection of trims and notions - not really the place for such things - but ask if you dont see what you want. The swatching service is also good, and their are seamstresses affiliated with the shop if you choose to have someone else do the work.

I was last at this store about 6 years ago-I bought what I went in to get and whilst waiting to be checked out the saleswoman behind the counter was helping another and being really thoughtful- suddenly a man behind the counter is so rude to her- tells her that she needs not to be talking to customers so much,he continues, he is abusive and nasty and just evil. I was so moved emotionally in such a horrific way that when I left the store I called and spoke to the salesperson-I was crying and devastated (it isnt fun to watch another human being demeaned in front of a store filled with people- uncomfortable for them -she assured me she was alright and that as I mentioned I hoped she wasnt married to him- as that would have made the situation worse- to have abuse at home and at work. She said she wasnt married to him Anyway, today I was trying to think of a fabric store for a small job at work and part of me wants to go back and check on her and part of me wants to go anywhere else- 6 years on and that scene still moves in in a downward spiral sort of way.

We rushed to get to this shop before closing after spending 10 hours on the highway during a vacation road trip and I wasnt even spoken to as the owner fawned over another couple who entered at the same time. They used up all the time left and the owner half heartedly spoke after they left informing me he was about to close. All summer, I looked forward to shopping there to re-do my entire Victorian farmhouse. I literally left in tears. Also, it was not what I remembered...hardly any Ralph Lauren....mainly dated and tacky choices. Ill definitely go to Forsyth Fabric in Atlanta instead for my home re-do!! Sorry I wasted my time in this tiny pretentious shop waiting for "Bob Barker" to notice me!

I honestly cant understand why there are some negative reviews on this page. This store is awesome and the people in there were so kind and helpful to me. I agree that you need time when you go there because its so hard to leave with all of the luscious, colorful fabrics available at such a great price. I am going to go back this weekend with my husband to look at more home fabrics..I initially went in to find fabric for a dress and I came out with the exact fabric I wanted at a very reasonable price. They even gave me the cards of people who sew curtains and make dresses. If you want something custom made, this is the place to go!

Last time we went in here was 20 years ago and the staff was so mean to my mother, she cried. Of course this was after she spent $1000. in there, processed the sale and wouldnt let her return the fabric as she wasnt interested in their business. So I went back last week and they were so rude to me, there were no customers in the store, but two employees. They didnt welcome me into the store, or offer to help. When I asked a question, they gave me a one word answer, no eye contact and walked away. Sure they have nice stuff, but there are other places to shop. I wont return, maybe again in another 20 years.

Being a confirmed fabriholic I can say with most assurance that Banksville is by far the best place for fabrics in this country. Having visited shops coast to coast, in Canada, Fance and Great Britian, Banksville is still my favorite. After many years, when I want something really special, I look to them. My experiences with being in the store and ordering online or over the phone have all been delightful and the people working there the nicest ever encountered. I have even driven the 200 miles from my home to get something special. Keep up the good work! Sarah in WV

The quality of the fabric is wonderful. The quality of the staff... not so much. They are literally the rudest people I have ever encountered. They insulted the company I interned for, they insulted my dream job, they insulted my family, and they insulted my friends. All of these horrible insult incidents happened on different occasions, mind you. If you want beautiful fabric and youre willing to brave the beasts, then go for it.. but if youre easily offended, dont do it. Youll regret every second of wasting your time in there.

Holy Cow, What miserable people. I thought it was convenient that this fabric store was open on Sundays, but its not worth it. Its just like any fabric store, except that the staff really hate their lives. They treat you as a burden for even walking in. They huff and puff if you ask them anything. I wouldnt go back if you paid me, quite frankly Im shocked the place is still open. They must be running some sort of backroom casino or cockfighting ring. Count me out.

Despite the mixed reviews, I decided to give Banksville Fabrics a try. There were only two women working and a lot of people coming in looking for assistance, so I can see some peoples frustrations. That being said, I waited under 5 minutes for my turn and had a very good experience! Both salespeople were knowledgeable and helpful in guiding me to the perfect fabric. Ill definitely go back.

I cant say enough good about the help I have received through their swatching service. These people were passionate about sewing and my particular project. They listened well and sent me the most wonderful swatches that fit my requests spot on. I have used them several times and have always been more than pleased with the service and the swatches sent. The turnaround time is quick, too.

I cant agree with Lauren D any more. They are the rudest people ever especially THAT BITTER OLD QUEEN! He was whispering about me to his assistant while I was in their tiny store. Thank God they have each other because they are running out of customers. Plus their quality is really lacking. Go to the city youl find way better quality at B&J or Mood.

This is a terrific shop to buy designer and high end fabrics for much lower than regular retail. Their selection is phenomenal and the staff is VERY talented and knowledgeable. They always remember customer names and give personal attention. Many holiday and special outfits started at this shop. I just wish I lived closer ; ).
