Today, 3/25/15 I had a very disturbing experience at Montage Bridal Salon in East Lyme. In search of a tiara Lynda and I went there for an appointment to look at them. According to owner Diane, I HAD to make and apt just to look. Once there, the owner is talking to someone who appears to be another customer, theyre talking about a death in the family and Diane says "you should be nice to everyone, you never know who you are talking to..." Truer words have never been spoken, She leaves and Diane comes to me to say "Ok, what color is your gown?" Im not wearing a gown, to which she makes a face. The next question is what color is your veil? Lynda says shes making the veil that we want to attach to a tiara. Again, the face. She shows us some tiaras and allows me to try one on. They are swarvski crystals and pearls, when I say that Im looking for amethyst or purple she proceeds to tell us we should go to AC Moore or Christmas Tree Shop because thats where well find what we are looking for-even after I say that Ive been there and did not find what I was looking for. The phone rings and she goes to answer it, Lynda says "why dont you try this one on..." as I reach for it the "customer" suddenly appears in the right side of my face YELLING that we should have an apt, dont try anything on if were not buying it, on and on...I tell her we have an apt and she continues. I then say "we are all set, have a nice day!" and walk out. Not many times in my life have I been speechless! Once out in the parking lot Im dumbfounded...still cant speak. Lynda says "whoa.." a couple of times and then spins on her heels to fly up the stairs back inside! I waited to see if someone would come flying out of the windows...then I heard Lynda say "you should have kept your mouth shut!" and the door slams shut. While she was lighting up this person, she told Lynda "Im not the owner, just a friend". We left for the Crystal Mall, pulling into the parking lot Diane, the owner, called me to "profusely apologize, hopes I wont hold this against her, happy to work with me another time when shes not around..." I tell Diane that I have no intention of coming back to her store as I feel like Ive just been attacked by a rabid dog, thanks for your apology. So, after looking at some reviews on the website it appears that the "customer" is actually Lydia, an employee, how nice! Of course, all the reviews are wonderful-all except this one! So kids, the lesson here is if you need a tiara go to the Crystal Mall where there are many shops that carry them and some wonderful people to help you, no yelling or rabid dogs to bother you and whatever you do, DO NOT GO TO MONTAGE BRIDAL SALON in East Lyme cause theres a rabid dog there just waiting to bite you! On 3/27/15 Diane, the owner called me again to let me know she didnt get any sleep last night due to her employees inexcusable behavior and offered for me to come back to her shop to pick out a free veil, to which I declined! ALL DONE-NEVER GOING BACK!!!

Diane at the Montage Bridal Salon made my dreams come true and my ideas a reality! As a first time bride, I went to Diane never had trying any other bridal dresses on. She was so warm and welcoming and made me feel so at ease. It was so nice that Diane, my mom, and myself had the store to ourselves to begin the search for that perfect dress. After talking with her and telling her the few hopes I had for the dress, we were set loose in the store to look and between the three of us, we pulled some amazing gowns. The first gown was everything I could have hoped for! It had everything I wanted and so much more. I fell in love right away, and yes future brides, that bridal moment when you put on “the one” exists! Diane had me try on a couple others to compare the different styles and textures, since I had never done it before. We all knew the first dress was it, so she put me back in the dress I would be married in. She really listened to me in what I wanted in a dress and found it first thing. She also put the whole look together with the matching veil and I was left breathless. I felt so confident in her expertise. She took her time to complete my look for my wedding day. She also spend a good deal of time helping pick out my mother’s dress and my bridesmaid dress. We had a vision that she helped bring to life. Her kindness and time spent went beyond the sale of the dress. She was prompt when my dress, my mom’s dress, and my bridesmaid’s dresses arrived and was very flexible in scheduling appointments for our fittings so all of us could do it together. We would laugh and have such a great afternoon in the shop with Diane and her alterations manager while we did our fittings! We all looked forward to seeing them each time we went! As the final fitting approached a week before the wedding, all the alterations had been done with such care and each dress came out beautify, like each one was made custom for that person. They had succeeded in making my dress one of a kind with the addition I wanted. The attention to detail on the dress was amazing! Diane was also kind enough to care for my dress even after the day was over. She was so kind to look at the dress and help guide me to the proper way to care for it. She cleaned it with such care and fixed a few buttons I had lost during the day. Diane made my wedding day so beautiful and made everything I could have hoped for a reality. I plan to stop in and just say hello to Diane and the Montage crew in the days to come. Not only did I find the dress I had been envisioning and fall in love with it, I also fell in love with Diane and Montage Bridal!

If I could give negative 5 stars I would. After having this salon recommended to me by a coworker that I considered savvy, I was treated so rudely on the phone by Diane, the owner, trying to even make an appointment for my daughters wedding dress alterations that I was shocked. But, because I was desperate to have the job done right, I begged her to make time (even though I called in April and the wedding was in October!). She told me that she give preference to brides that purchase from her. (even though she advertises doing alterations) Finally, she gave us an appointment. While on the appointment she barely acknowledged me but was at least kind to my daughter, the bride. Its a shame because her seamstress, Lydia, was a peach. At the end of the appointment she handed my daughter a card with the estimate for a hem, inserting cups, and a small amount of bodice alteration: $600!!! I was tempted to call her out on giving us an "I dont want the job" estimate. Instead, we went to Laura Ashley in Westerly, RI. We were curious to see what their estimate would be, thinking that perhaps we were out of touch with alteration rates! Lo and behold, we received an estimate of UNDER $100. Needless to say, they found our story ridiculous. I hope you do, too, dear reader. And do NOT take your business to Montage.
