I like Kaplan. I dont love it. Id give it 3.5 stars but I wont scrimp and downgrade them because they do a good job in the service department which is primarily what I use them for. Ive never bought a computer or accessories there because their prices are a little nuts. UPSIDE: if theres a problem with my computer, this is where Ill go. I trust theyll make it right. DOWNSIDE is they charge - not exorbitant, but theyre not for the budget minded. UPSIDE is maybe those prices allow them to pay people a decent wage which might be the case since they seem to stick around. DOWNSIDE is salespeople are surly and not particularly helpful if youre merely browsing, which I thought to do when I brought in my laptop for a fix. So................... its a 60/40 kind of situation. I tend to agree their hardware prices are a little delusional in terms of what theyre selling. But its local and I like patronizing local business. And if I were not a poor shlub, Id buy my hardware with them because Ill tell you, its a whole lot better than having to deal with Best Buy, which has gone entirely over the top corporate crazy. I figure how often does my computer needs fixing? So its kind of okay. And Id rather see Kaplan there when I drive by than not, or worse - another damned Best Buy. So there you have it.

My newly purchased, reconfigured (by Kaplan) laptop was horribly infested with malware, viruses and evil invaders. That was my fault, since I believed in the reliability of the Norton and Microsoft links which were frauds - not connected to either at all. Michael MacLean thoroughly scoured my operating system and all other programs to restore my laptop to full operation, including - to my surprise, my connection to my printer, my email setting, my internet connections, and my ITunes program which contains over $3,000 worth of audiobooks as well as beloved music. Dont know how he did it, and he did it with a smile. And I wasnt always pleasant since I was so frustrated with the infection situation. Further thanks go to John, the service manager who withstood my wrath. It was a difficult enterprise and they came out on top. Im a long-term customer of Kaplan Computers in Manchester CT - all staff are professional to the nth degree. Highly recommend!

Mom got her computer fixed here a while back. ~2011 Acer Aspire. I looked at it recently and it was butchered. The keyboard was wonky and not even (like hardware was packed inside), the webcam isnt even recognized as a device (and all included webcam software gone missing?), the headphone/microphone jack doesnt work, and the speakers are not the same. Seems to be replaced by a crappy mono speaker that is tinny and quiet compared to the decent stereo speakers it had before (to my knowledge it seems like the included sound card is completely disconnected and they just added a poor excuse for a speaker). This is completely unacceptable and if this service wasnt done a couple years ago and I realized the depth of these problems I would have thrown a fit!

The store Manager is Tom. I went there to purchase a laptop adapter. I have purchased other items here also. Never again will I purchase from these people. I called Tom "The Manager" and he hung up on me. The Cooler Master NA-65 retail is $39.95.This is the list price on the manufactures website. { $39.95 } Kaplan computers price is $59.95. Amazon is $27.99 .They will not match prices! They are more than happy to mark up the manufactures retail price and overcharge the customers, well within their right, but they would rather lose a customer for life than match a price. Business must be very good.

Their Computers are a ripoff, they overcharge for outdated technology, the staff that works there do nothing but rip customers off, the staffs knowledge about Computers and Hardware is a joke, I build computers as a hobby, I asked them questions about their computers just to test them on their knowledge, they dont know what they are talking about, their newer computers are mediocre and way overpriced, for what they charge for their outdated and newer computers, people are better off going to Best Buy or buying a computer online, If you dont want to get ripped off, avoid this place at all costs

I was helping my grandparents with their Asus computer, as they had gotten an error message on startup about their hard drive being locked. Before, they took it to Kaplan where after a $60 diagnostic and cleaning, they were quoted for a $300 bill. They took the computer back without getting it repaired and I checked it out. I turned the computer on, it was running fine and after a few scans and backups it was back to normal. It leaves me thinking that they may have been taking advantage of seniors with an older computer (5 years). Wouldnt recommend.

Do not listen to the Naysayers! Some people are just unhappy or do not understand what it takes to run a brick and mortar retail, reseller, repair business. I have been to Kaplan many times over many years, and NEVER had anything but a good, enjoyable experience. Everybody knows their stuff and treats you well, Sales and Service and Parts. I have been working with computer hardware and software for over 30 years, from Mainframes to Servers to PCs, it is my hobby too. Trust them, go there! Nothing sketchy going on, I would know by now.

last week my computer shut down ( hard drive issue result of virus) I called Kaplan Computers. They sent tech out out and found the computer needed to be taken to their repair center. They called to let me status and when machine would be returned. they delivered right on time and the tech was particularly helpful and very knowledgeable. His name was AJ GUERRA. This is second time they came to my house and i am very satisfied. We purchase 2 computers and accessory"s in past . In my opinion this is place to go. Joe, Vernon, Ct.

A Private User

Recently I received an nvidia GTX 460 1GB graphics card to upgrade my computer, but didnt realize it required two 6-pin power connectors and my power supply only had one. I was happy to find Kaplan Computers open until 8pm on a Thursday evening, as it was 6:30pm already, and their sales guy pointed me to a 550W model by XFX that was perfect for my needs. No trying to upsell me to a more expensive model I didnt need, and the price was only $10 more than what I found online, not bad for a brick & mortar shop.

RC Overdose

Pleasant and helpful people, but the work performed was sub-par. I was told the new computer could run 2 monitors (it cant). I was billed for data migration (all my old Outlook files) and weeks later when I went to look for an old email, lo and behold they only created the folders in outlook but didnt actually migrate the emails themselves. I dont have time to go back-and-forth to Vernon repeatedly to have them fix their worksmanship issues. I wont be returning.

This place is a rip off their Macs are way over priced so I bought one somewhere else. Then When my Mac gave me problems I stopped in to see if they can see what wrong with it they wanted $79 just to see whats wrong wit it. I ran out of there and went to the Apple Store at Evergreen walk. They went to the back for 5 mins reset my battery and I was good to go for the grand Total of zero dollars, free ! Dont waste your time here they will rip you off
