ATTENTION ALL TOURISTS: There is a City Market in Buena Vista which is only 25 miles South of Town. Thank goodness I now live where there are multiple City Markets. I have not stepped foot into a Safeway since Ive left Leadvilles isolated little mountain town. When I was forced to shop here I would receive outdated products every shopping trip and they carry only the basics. Looking for decent sushi or an olive bar? FORGET ABOUT IT! The inside is dirty as well as the parking lot and the carts and baskets are strewn all around the store. The last time I was in this Safeway, there was dangerous construction happening while their store was open!! The ceiling was open and several dozen plastic containers were placed on the floor to gather up the smelly water that dripped through the water damaged roof. I was sick to my stomach from the smell of their plumbing issues. If you can, shop at a different store. You may save a family members life.

Waited 15min at the service desk for someone to acknowledge us even waiting (only because we asked for help) only to be told by Roxanne "my head clerk (Candra) just clocked in" and to wait 5-10 more minutes and noticing the manager (forget her name light skinned with curly hair thats always up and and glasses) stocking shelves looking at us numerous times waiting, before walking out. We come every month for the past 9 months to get a money order to pay our rent and we now will be taking our business to Kum n Go a simple gas station that seems to be quicker and more friendly. (This isnt the first time either before you assume)

This store in Leadvile co, needs some attention from upper management, shelves are always empty, we had no lettuce on 3 of our consecutive visits and several times like today no bananas, it seems like we get 2nd rate fruits, vegetables and everything else...some of the staff act like they dont care...they make you put your bags in your cart, if they dont have a clerk to bag..just because safeway is the only grocery store in town doest mean we should get 2nd rate food...our money is not 2nd rate....also never have enough clerks when it is 5 deep in customers waiting in line ...its embarrassing for tourists to visit our store.

Just a terrible store. Some staff is friendly, but most are downright rude if not shouty. Produce selection is always bad even during growth months and its not uncommon to see moldy produce hanging out. Equipment is constantly broken including what now seems to be an annual breakdown of the cooler and freezer section. The self check lines nearly require a manager to be standing beside them to constantly fix them. If there was any other option within 20miles I would never step foot in this store. As it stands I only use it for emergency items and we drive 45 minutes to Vail or 35 to Summit to do our shopping.

Update 9/19: Got food poisoning from something at the deli... Dear God... This is by far the most mismanaged safeway I have ever been to. They are always under staffed, the staff that is there is usually slow or uninterested in helping you. They often run out of everything they put on sale before I have a chance to buy any. And they have no idea when to schedule maintenance, peak shopping hours arent a good time to do non crucial refrigerator maintenance and close down isles. Thank you Leadville Safeway for wasting my time over and over again.

I see so many reviews complaining about this store, well what do you expect in a hippy little town of less than 1000+ people all the way up in the bloody mountains?! Cut them some slack for crying out loud!! If youre that anal about quality go or move to Denver or Vail and use the Safeways there!! Just be glad you actually have a decent grocery store that sells fairly priced products, compared to the rest of the town Safeway, Pizza Hut and Subway are the only civilized food joints you have in Leadville so be thankful for that!!

My Dr. accidentally called in my rx to the pharmacy, they say I already picked it up, when I have not even set foot inside that horrible store in over 6 months. Everything about this store is disgusting. The smell, she produce that rots the night you buy it, and the moldy bread, and most of all the rotten meat we have bought there over 10 times in the past 12 years. I said I would never go there again, now I have to go there to find out why they are unprofessional and careless in the pharmacy!

I went to pay my Excel bill and was told by a MANAGER that I would have to come back later when the girl that knew how to do it would be in. Are you kidding me?! A store full of incompetent people. And dont buy cheese there...the coolers are always on the fritz. The register lines are horrendously long, the self checkout is always malfunctioning, and nobody ever wants to offer any customer service. And yay, its the only grocery store in town :/

Absolutely horrible. Ive been living in Leadville for a few years and I still drive to City Market in Silverthorne. Horrible deli, horrible meat, everything is always about to be or is expired. Rotting fruit everywhere. Chicken is 3x the price as the better trimmed equivalent at city market.. and city market you get gas points let alone fresher food and better prices. Heaven forbid you try and go on a Friday or weekend.

The produce department has been incredibly awesome, the staff has been doing a awesome job keeping it stock and fresh the new produce manager is very nice and friendly he always offers me a sample of a fruit and always offers assistance, you can see the big change in the produce, the produce always has my stuff in stock and I know its fresh, they are doing a excellent job. GOOD JOB PRODUCE TEAM!!!!!

Worst store I have ever had to deal with. Smells like fish for no reason. Staff is slow and unhelpful. Over 13 years we have constantly had to return bad meat with sell by dates saying it was still good. Now they have a pharmacy and on some days they put up a sign saying no one came in today, so we are closed. VERY BAD STORE!!!! Too bad its the only store withing 45 minute drive.

Not the worst grocery store that Ive been into, but almost there. Has A really funky smell and the service isnt great (save for 1 or 2 people). Last time I was in they were missing most of their produce and I found expired product on the shelf. I would love it if Leadville had a good grocery store but Im still driving to BV or Summit County to shop

Have used the store for 11 years this store is the worst store I have ever been in and ever will be in they they seem to always run out of products that I in many other people like an act like theyre doing us a favor the corporation is the fault in the new by out last year has gone straight down the hill
