This is a *huge*, beautiful bookstore in downtown Denver! Parking is a problem at times, but theres a parking lot directly across the street thats safe and cheaper than parking lots (pay per hour until 6p?, then its a flat fee of $15 until 6a? the following morning). The service here is good; they let you browse uninterrupted until you need help, then their knowledge and professionalism are top-notch. Their bathrooms are clean, as well. They have many, many rooms with books in every genre, as well as a big cards section and magazine section. The cards are all kept together, but the magazines are spread out over a few rooms, due to the main room also being used as a guest lecturer seating area, with 3 rows of really comfortable padded chairs in the back for anytime use. They also have a small cafe/snack area, although theres not always someone behind it to serve. You can also bring in water bottles. Theres some seating placed around the store, but mostly in the lecturer room or nearby, or in several of the more secluded rooms with the travel books. The store is very clean, so you can also sit and read on the floor if the mood strikes. I very highly recommend this store. It had a great section of books in every subject, like a usual bookstore, and also some magazines and books exclusive to Colorado, like 5280. I very highly recommend this store. Its Yelp and Google reviews are on point.

I <3 Tattered Cover! Nothing compares to the smell of a bookstore. Excusing my opinions, I believe that the traditional brick and mortar bookstores may be on their way out. I will, however, add that you would not be able to tell that paper material is on the decline by looking at Tattered Cover! Tattered Cover offers plenty of variety. Personally, I prefer to shop the "Staff Picks" or "Bargain Books" section at the front of the store. I further appreciate that Tattered Cover offers signed copies from various authors, which makes the purchase all that more special. Tattered Cover offers plenty of seating, whether it be a table top, desk, couch, or an armchair that you are looking for. Tattered Cover does have a small cafe area where you can purchase food and beverage. I have never found Tattered Cover to be loud or distracting while previewing a book. Other customers are generally friendly and respectful of each other. My only reason for not giving Tattered Cover 5 stars is because of their prices. When compared to online retailers, you can stand to save 50% or more and receive your product the next day. I personally choose to spend the extra money because I realize that the bookstore is a dying species and I want to keep it alive! :-)

I think the staff is rude especially if your a single mom of a toddler, walked around forever in circles trying to find a staff person to help me, gave up and went to pay for my items and that lady made me feel like i didnt belong in that store made a comment about me not having enough money to purchase my items and suggested for me to go to the barns and noble told her they have been closed for a while and i foundd my mis placed 100 dollar bill and havent been back even though i have wanted to give them a 7th or so chance i have 86 this business enough is enough, dont judge a book by its a cover, stop following people around thinking there going to steal from u maybe if u were more helpful and made customers feel worthy instead of worthless the positive outcome from one a nother being kind to each other could be so uplifting oh the possibilities kindness could be responsible for you

This place is one of the most amazing bookstores in the United States. Huge selection and one of a kind in its simplicity. Like others have said Time is warped inside this magical vortex--enjoy your eternal browsing time. Twenty five years ago when I lived in Denver I met some great authors and had books signed by greats like Jimmy Stewart, Anne Rice, and Clive Barker--there was always something amazing happening at the store. Any up and coming authors make this a stop on your book tour--the service is awesome, the clientele is friendly, the staff knowledgeable, and you will find hidden treasures if you but seek for them. Great anime, graphic novels, and comics section. Great place to waste away an afternoon.

I absolutely adore this bookstore and have been a regular customer for many years. Unfortunately, of late the store tends to have a higher number of homeless people seeking shelter from the cold than actual shoppers. While Im sympathetic to the plight of the homeless in Downtown Denver, I dont think that allowing the bookstore to become a refuge for the homeless is the right solution. In the corners of the store youll find very few readers, instead youll encounter homeless people napping, unloading their backpacks or coming down from drug use. Im afraid the store wont last long unless something is done to bring in more paying customers and ensure that they feel safe to relax and browse the literature.

Spectacular selection of books from a local chain. Very friendly, helpful staff who are clearly book lovers. Large sections for travel, young adult, and cooking. A huge collection of magazines and unusual periodicals. They sell (and buy) used books as well, alongside marked down new books, so you can often pick up a $6 - $8 hardback. around the holidays, this is a good spot for boxed card sets and calendars too. There is a cafe inside, and comfy chairs scattered throughout the store. This is a must-visit spot for visitors, downtown.

Ya gotta read and books are a great place to start. Three floors of books make it even better. Theres a great vibe happening in here too. Think about it... Barnes & Nobel, at the opposite end of the Mall, was usually dead whilst the Tattered Cover was busy with book signings, lectures and people buying. The location may have helped its success as much as anything. In the new zone of dining and shopping for Downtown Denver, well removed form the drug zone of the 16th Street Mall, it feels safe and welcome.

Tattered Cover on 16th Street is THE classic Denver indie bookstore. Their selection of books and magazines is maybe the best in Colorado. The Colfax location is beautiful and modern, and Highlands Ranch has a branch thats great for suburbanites. Both lack the warmth, history - and ghosts you might find behind one of the staircases in the 16th Street store. Dont forget to check their events calendar - this location seems to get the best authors for their frequent book signings.

I have been coming to this place for 20 years now, and I just love it. First: it has the best soup in town, at reasonable prices. Second: fantastic, well-priced sandwiches. A half sandwich will fill you up. Third: comfy furniture, eclectic products. Fourth (after all, it is a bookstore): No bookstore could ever be better. The service is outstanding and knowledgeable. Fifth: killer cookies! Try the dark chocolate cinnamon chip, or the peanut butter chocolate chip.

While the environment presented was golden, they didnt carry books by any of the authors for whom I was looking. Which is no small thing considering the prominent positions theyve occupied in their respective fields. Also, it bothered me that publications were organised by title rather than author... causing me to waste a significant amount of time searching for things which I would only later be informed were not even present.
