The crew working in there as of Fall/Winter 2013 were total jerks. I had raced down the canyon from above flood destroyed roads to check out a pair of tele boots with my boyfriend that I had put on hold. It was 20 minutes before closing. As I was putting my foot into the boot, the guy behind the counter said "are you going to buy those or not?" Astonished, I asked, "can I stand up in them first?" He replied, "make it quick." As I stand up we take a couple of minutes to discuss the fit, etc and another employee came walking through and said gruffly, "Im turning off the lights in one minute." Wow! I quickly decided to go ahead and buy them since they were pretty cheap (though they turned out not to work at all--which I probably could have figured out if I wasnt being interrupted the entire time I was trying to decide on them). When I went to the counter to purchase them, I pointed out that it was still 5 minutes before closing and that I wish I had a more courteous experience after driving all the way down the canyon. The guy gruffly responded, "well you are about to be on my time." Two other men joined him behind the counter and at this point it was just me, a woman, facing these three guys all being total jerks. Then I noticed that their clock on the wall was 5 minutes fast! Thats right my phone (set with the atomic clock) read 5:50 not 5:55 as their clock did. 10 minutes till closing! When I mentioned that, again asking for compassion. I mentioned how I am a teacher and that I have to wait on late parents all the time...it is not ideal but no reason to be ugly. He told me he didnt care becuase he had no children. They also told me that this was not a customer service joint, but a garage sale and they set their clock to their time. At this point it was getting so tit for tat and they were being so relentlessly ugly to me I just about started crying. Even through my teary eyes from being treated so ugly, they did not let up as I left the store. Will never go there again and I tell all my friends never to go there. I can find friendlier "garage sales" to visit elsewhere! Oh and besides how they treated me, I found a sweet older man asking about skis for his wife. He said to the employee, "could you tell me about these." The guy literally responded, "cant you tell theyre skis." The guys there must really hate their lives.

Before dropping off great kids gear by high end name brands for resale, I decided to read the reviews for this recycling place. There were several "one star" reviews describing terrible experiences. But there are always going to be people disgruntled with some things…right?… .Well, believe the bad reviews on this one! My experience is that the place is in a terrible location to receive much traffic, their hours are not conducive to sports enthusiasts, heading off in the morning, or on certain days, and we found that their products are priced extremely high on the onset. We, too, found the personnel to be rude and curt. I was to read and sign the "rules of sale" basically stating that all the footwork and record keeping would be on my end. "We dont call you, you call us" policy. After stopping by to pick up my last check that was due me, I found "store closed" sign--not once, but twice--during daytime hours. When asking if they would mail my small balance due me, he stated there is a $1.00 mailing FEE. I guess they feel their customer base is good enough, because they wont be adding too many more!! Look on Craigslist….youll definitely do better!!!

People in Boulder like the outdoors so Im not completely surprised this place is open. Anywhere else, it would have gone out of business a long time ago. They have some nice gear but too bad the employees who work there suck. Seriously. Its hard to believe a business today can hire a**holes for their employees- completely unhelpful and almost as if YOU are doing them a favor for coming in. I suspect the owner has this attitude as well. I bought a backpack from them and then used it on a couple of trips and found the fit wasnt right. I brought it back to them within a couple months to consign, hoping I could sell it. Their reply was "we dont carry this brand of gear, its not high end enough". I told them I bought it from them and the employee didnt believe me. I then asked about sizing of backpacks and he told me "just figure it out". Take a look at the other reviews- the customer service sucks. Give them a message- shop somewhere else. By the way, I sold the backpack on Craigslist and buy used gear from there. I would NEVER go back to Sports Recycler again. Maybe with enough of us, they get the message! D.

Hmm. Interesting way to run a business. Not easy to find them, theyre at the far north end of Boulder tucked away in an old industrial unit with hardly any signage. I showed up with a pair of Salomon Pilot skis in decent condition, a popular model from a few years ago. They said they couldnt sell them for very much because they were "ten years old" (actually they were six years old) and "skinny" (okay, they werent powder skis, but 110-75-100 isnt exactly skinny). They said theyd sell them for $60 (on eBay they sell for more than twice as much). And after all that they said Id have to come back another day because it was too late in the day to start the paperwork (it was 45 minutes before closing and I was the only customer in the store). I thanked them politely, walked out and on the way home stopped in at Play It Again Sports. Play It Again said theyd sell them for $150 and they took care of the paperwork in under five minutes.

Im not too sure why some people are upset with BSRs customer service. #1 I have not had any bad experiences over the past ten years, and #2 this is not the same type of store as McGuckin or REI where there is help with a smile at every turn and in every aisle (more an attribute of McGuckin than REI anyway). I dont really expect that at a place like this nor have I ever been treated poorly. Theyve been friendly and helpful and I really appreciate this place as a hidden gem in Boulder. They dont do electronic records, just old school paper, which I find kind of quirky and refreshing and nothing to complain about. Ive consigned stuff a few times there and theyve sold my stuff and Ive gotten decent money every time. Ive purchased nice items at a great bargain another handful of times at least. No complaints here. We need stores like this.

I am sure there is good deals in the store! I have been there twice and had rude, uninviting experiences. I think this matters a lot as a consumer and will never return due to principle. Why pay 92$ for something when I could get the same thing for $125 online, new, with a warranty, without the hassle of feeling out of place, without the snarky attendants, and be happier. Again, maybe the dude, bros just had a chapped ass today but who cares this is the customer service industry...I walked out after asking about pricing and feeling like I got spoken to in a rude manner. I left the two stars cause it has the potential to be spectacular, but a consignment store first needs to be that a consignment store...not retail with 15% off...especially with rude device...double get outta here bro.
