Why we had to stumble into this place when there were multiple other choices for breakfast was a lightning bolt of horrible misfortune. We grabbed our own table as instructed by the sign on the cash register podium, which was fairly easy to do with several open tables. We waited for at least 10 minutes for a waitress, and I was about to get up and leave when a tired looking woman literally threw a couple laminated menus on to our table. I was lucky she didnt severe an artery in my hand. After another long pause in the action, another waitress popped in and took our drink order and rushed off even though we were clearly ready to order. After all, I didnt want to hold that greasy piece of plastic menu any longer than necessary. The waitress came back and took our order and was actually fairly friendly. The food (omelets) arrived at our table surprisingly quickly; especially since at that point I was expecting the worse. Both the omelets were tasty and perfectly cooked, but the hash browns were slightly under-cooked and cold. I would have asked the waitress for my missing English muffin, but she never showed up again. No water refill. Nothing. With great trepidation, I headed to the bathroom and got exactly what I expected. I total nasty pigsty. On my way, I noticed the restaurant was nearly empty and our “waitress” was shooting the breeze with a couple locals (I overheard her ask about the local high school). We paid, but the cashier didnt ask about our experience. Theyve probably stepped into that minefield before so they don’t bother. Clearly the staff and owners don’t give a crap about this place, or their customers.

I have never not tipped before, that is, until this experience. The food was ok, but not worth the price at all, but thats not the reason for my review. We have a family of 5. Our food came, approximately, one plate every 10 minutes which was odd. But, again, this is not what spurred me to write a review. There are some forgivable things like the waitress forgetting to get our drinks or forgetting to get my sons bagel, and she wasnt really listening to us. I get it. It gets busy sometimes. I may reduce the tip for those kind of things, but then there are some things that are just not forgivable. I ordered my burger plain with not veggies. I said I didnt even want them on the side. My burger and fries came to me with my burger bun and fries sitting on top of veggies. My bun had tomato and pickle juice soaked into it. Again, this was still forgivable and not the reason I choose to write this review. I wasnt about to make an issue, but my wife, bless her, called over the waitress anyways. The waitress, snidely and sarcastically said, "Well, I can just take that!" without really listening to my wife. She then rambunctiously grabbed, WITH HER HANDS, half, not even all, the veggies off my plate, touching my hamburger and my fries and trotted off. I was baffled that a waitress just put her hands all over my food and more importantly I couldnt believe she treated my wife with such disrespect. That was unforgivable, and thats why there was no tip given at the end of the meal.

Filthy and disgusting. I think the other reviews up here are very restrained. This is one of the most horrible places I have ever eaten in my life. I was travelling from Lake Tahoe to Yosemite, and had to stop in Truckee to make my connections. This place was directly opposite, and I was hungry so I came in. I ordered one of the breakfasts - it looked, smelt and tasted vile: it was as if they had dug the used scraps out of a dustbin and then thrown them in a frying pan and served them up. It was so bad it was like something out of a TV programme about terrible restaurants. I always thought that I had a strong stomach, and I have travelled throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia and elsewhere, and this has to be one of the worst places I have ever eaten. I am amazed that the owners have no shame - do they and the people who work here seriously think that these are normal restaurant standards? I felt too faint to complain, and left almost the entire plate. The waitress who took it away made no comment as to whether it was OK - maybe they are used to people leaving most or all the food. The place itself was filthy. The table and chairs were slimy and greasy (I dont know with what), there were bits of congealed food on the ketchup bottles etc, nothing had been cleaned for years. The only good thing was the joke books on the table, presumably to take your mind off the food.

Ordered two "huge" 12 dollar drinks after their morning rush. We sat at a 3 top table after writing our names in and WAITING for a spot on the patio and after ordering our drinks the waitress asked us if we wanted food, we kindly said no were just grabbing a drink. She instantly responded with these spots are reserved for people eating food. No sign stating that, and honestly seemed like a rule she had just made up. We were again, repeatedly kind and Said thats fine put us where works best for you. 5 minutes of sitting down we were told, "other customers are waiting so. . ." We were essentially kicked out, after paying $24 for two so-so drinks. Never going back again. Seriously, never.

If you are in Truckee at breakfast time, dont miss the Wagon Train Cafe. And if youre an early bird make sure you go between 5:30 and 7:30 a.m. and youll get your breakfast at half price! And make sure youre hungry because the portions are large. Coffee keeps coming and you can entertain yourself in the short wait by looking at the walls and the train that runs around the top of the building along the ceiling line. We had great service and met good people at the counter. Hometown and Friendly! I wish they wouldnt have the Fox News on though...

Hands down the worst customer service in the country. I understand small towns can run a little slower, but after making eye contact with three different servers, continuing to smile and being ignored. After 15 minutes, we walked out. We did nothing to deserve such unprofessionalism. We have been across the country with the book tour to the biggest cities and the smallest towns and were never treated this poorly anywhere. The service here is nothing short of pathetic. If you dont like your job that much, dont work in customer service.

Compliments to the chef, the food was really good. The service was hideous though. They had us at a table that hadnt been bussed and said they would be bussing it in a few min. 15 min later and they asked if we were done with "our food". We were finally served but our waitress was a mess. They blamed it on the fact that she was new but they should have trained her better, it wasnt her fault. They also overcharged us TWENTY DOLLARS. THats a lot!! Only two stars cause the food was good.
