Okay.. let me set the record straight. No, H&T is not cheap. However, their quality is second to none here in SD. Perhaps folks need to reexamine what is "expensive" with respect to meat.. I was in there the other day and grabbed a giant bone out pork chop that was plenty for my wife and I for diner and it cost $11.50. May I also add that it was the most beautiful piece of pork I have ever purchased from a butcher! Cooked in a cast iron with butter = INCREDIBLE!! Next level stuff, the fat was sublime. $11.50 divided by 2 is cheap!! Cant get an extra value meal for 2 people for what it cost us to have a world class cut of meat!! So to everyone Ive heard complain about their prices, check yourself! And to the dude who wants to see more selection of hamburger meat and hot dogs and has the balls to tell these dudes to "step there game up" I say, why dont you step your game up bro..

Heart and Trotter are great for a full scale, high quality butcher. They have some of the same tendencies as sustainable, local butchers in other west coast cities- namely, they dont ever carry every cut, because they dont move enough volume. That said Ive found them incredibly accommodating, and have asked for specific cuts and been accommodated, with enough forewarning. Ive also always been able to find an adequate substitution (for example, no skirt steak for carne asada, but we were doing plates, and they had loads of Korean ribs which, like skirt steak, are cheap, take marinade well, and grill beautifully). The most notable perk is the great flavor on their pork (hard to find) and the aging on their beef is very well executed (and part of the reason for the price).

Very professionally made porchetta for New years eve. I was looking for the meat to make a porchetta myself and the guy just opens the fridge and shows me this super-pro roll. I was speeches and of course bought it on the spot. It turned out very good yet I wish I had the choice of stuffing for it myself. Shop has great cuts of meat but quite expensive. May be a good thing - buy meat rarely but pick top quality.

They offer great meats and cuts, just be sure to plan and call ahead a couple days so they can set it aside for you. I roasted a chicken from here and came out better than any other Id done. Did a blind taste test of their tri tip against one from Smart & Final at a party of about 25 people. The H&T meat was preferred by almost 90 percent of the guests. The staff are happy folks who enjoy their work.

You really shouldnt be buying meat anywhere else. Everyone here is super knowledgeable about everything they sell. They can tell you how much to buy, how to cook it, where its from, and how it was raised. Yes, it is more expensive than meat from the bargain bin at the grocery story. But, it is SO much better! The quality cannot be overstated. Dont believe me? Try it.

Lacking variety. For a full butchery they could have a better selection. Not sure if it is because its a new shop, but I would like to see more if they are a full butchery. I would like to go back when they offer hamburgers or hot dogs and they are actually doing so. Just need to up their game. San Diego lacks great butcher shops that dont try to bend you over on pricing.

Amaaazeballz! This place is my new favorite place to get my "from now on" burger.... Because from now on, this is where I will go to get my burger fix. The beef tastes so good. Char broiled goodness! Omfg... Words just cant do this place justice. You have to try this place! Also got the beef chorizo for an egg bake. This too was too good for words. Youre welcome!

We stopped on for a burger on a Saturday and were very impressed. The staff was super friendly. They have a large variety of meats, weigh they state are sustainable and hormone free. We were just checking it out, but have a few cuts we will come back for. Oh, and the burner was delicious!

Went here with the wife and friends for the pork butchery class on 2/26/2017. David and Lyle the butchers were great and we are looking forward to going back for the sausage making class. They even give you sample in middle of class. Might even do the pork butchery class again.

Phenomenal customer service. They walked me through the process of choosing meat for a Thanksgiving charcuterie board and it came out better than I could have dreamed of doing without their help. You absolutely get what you pay for here. Cant recommend this place enough!

I was so happy to have a butcher shop locally and plans to support them but Im glad I did not. Im never going to go back in there. very pricey and not worth it. you can buy good meats from other places for lesser price.

The staff is great, patient and helpful. I came here for burger week, fortunately I was able to get one of the last burgers. The burger was good and the sauce was delicious. Will come back and try other menu items.

This place is fantastic, they carry an excellent stock of terrific meats from local farmers, and have some odds and ends cuts of meat that you dont find often like St. Louis pork steaks, scrapple and head cheese.

Called them 5 days in advance to be sure they had the meat I needed. The guy confirmed several times but when I went in to pick it up before my special event, they had no idea what I was talking about.

Really great little shop, but call ahead, they have limited stock. Better to go if you dont know what you want to cook.. and are going to pick your meats there.
