Every neighborhood needs a hardware store, whether it be for everyday upkeep or long term arrangements. True, there is always the bafflingly sized superstores, but generality demarcates their focus; a lack in specificity and comprehension belonging to smaller stores. Not to say that North Park Hardware is a small store. In 1991, when current-owner Sam Radda first bought the shop, he worked on tripling the available stock, as well as expanding the hours you could come check out the products. Now the shop has row upon row of choices, packed together in a near labyrinthine structure if not for the precision in order. All of this really seems the logical choice for a graduate from Michigan State in engineering. After all, if you enjoy the craft of construction, bulking up on tools and pieces equals an increase in potential machinations. But more than substantiating his own whims, the bulk in products has been good for North Park too. Many of the houses in the neighborhood have old fashioned needs, which probably haven’t even been heard of by superstores, let alone fulfilled. But North Park Hardware has and can. Much of their reputation began with providing these hard to find pieces. Really, it’s all in the name; North Park Hardware is made for the neighborhood.

This is a good hardware store with smart people working and I hope SD locals support it because, even though, yes, you can order stuff online, we need and want a store in our community where we can find the things we need that weekend when something breaks and we cant wait for something that might or might not be the exact right thing you hope it is to arrive. You can call and ask if they have what you need--it is a small store, and if you can be exact in your description they can tell you. If you are like me and have only a vague sense of what you want, it could require a trip over but Ive found the owner to be very helpful and as psychic as someone who doesnt know what you mean because you dont know what you mean can be. Prices are good here. Before supporting that a/prime soul-crushing monstrosity that will be happy when they are no more independently owned stores left in the world, please support your own community! I say this as a person who is outta here in six months, but I hope the local hardware store sticks around longer.

Although Im sure its a great shop with lots of hardware the phone service I received was no good. I was looking for a 3/8 inch lap-ink or chain connector in galvanized not zinc plated. The man on the phone just kept telling me he had lots of SS carabaners or something that would work. I told him it was coast guard specifications for marine applications and I needed that specific part. He told me to come down.. I doubt they have it Im not risking my time better spent writing this review. Thanks for the help.... how hard is it to look at your selection and tell me before I waste time and gas to drive down. It would have been a real inconvenience for me to do that. Its not like youve invested anything in your poor website to help customers know what you carry. Get with the program. Theres something to be said about customers service here :(

It is surprising what a variety of useful items they can stock in this little place. I went to Home Depot to look for a stem valve to replace on a faucet. The plumbing fellow told me it was too old and to go to Ideal Plumbing Supply. I rushed over there worrying that we might have to have the water turned off all weekend if I didnt make it. The guy was helpful but was ready to close up for the day so he also couldnt find what I wanted right away. On the way back I stopped in at North Park Hardware. The old gentleman found just the valve and handle I needed. They do know their stuff here. Also a good place to go if you need just a few screws or nails of a certain size, not a whole box of them.

I cant believe how much stuff they have crammed into this little shop. Unless Im buying lumber, I never have to go anywhere but here for projects around the house. Since Ive discovered this hardware store, Im no longer worried about having to buy 10,000 screws at a big box store. I can buy the two number 10 machine screws that I need to hang the blackboard as opposed to the entire mounting kit. Which isnt to say they dont have full boxes as well. Its just a nice change of pace to be able to find what Im actually looking for in North Park without having to battle the traffic at ACE downtown or in Hillcrest or drive all the way to Sports Arena to get what I need.

love hardware stores, especially small quirky ones. This one is definitely small and quirky. -so, perfect location. Knowledgeable staff. Super "helpful" guys. Surprisingly large product aasortment. North Park Hardware has been around for a very long time. There is always at least 1 or 2 people who are looking for some random house part or window screen repair thingamajingee that cannot be found anywhere else on the continent except North Park Hardware. And, yet, it seems that the inventory never changes. Everything seems to be in the exact place where it has been since the 1952, or when the store first opened. That is why I love NP Hardware. It never changes.

If you need last minute hardware, and dont care about quality, I guess you could go here. Broke a simple tap inside a screw hole on its first use, which obviously indicates manufacturer defect; I was tapping aluminum, nothing crazy. Well, I call the store to explain, and the manager says it doesnt have a warranty, so theres nothing he could do. Class act bro, good luck against Amazon.

Sam and Jakob/Jacob served and delivered!! They ascertained I ha exactly what I needed or the installation of an EXTREMELY important family picture frame that weighs a TON. Their explanation and care will not go unnoticed! Thanks Sam!! You are going to make my girlfriend feel secure with her frame installed per your guidance!!!

Although they need to work on customer service. They always have what I need. I just hate going into big box hardware stores. I get lost every time I have know choice but to use the BIG BOX LABYRINTH stores. I wont mention any names, but one starts with L and ends with S. The other has the word Depot in it.

Really like this place.. a cast of characters and they do their job well! They even had the vacuum bags I needed and cheaper than anywhere else I have gotten them! Its also great not to have to buy a whole box of screws, bolts, etc. Its a real old-fashion hard-ware store, and not over priced !!!!

Excellent service everytime. I am glad these guys are around, north park doesnt have resources for the supplies they offer. If you need something special, just ask! They are always happy to help me when I need random things!
