The market itself is great, though I highly suggest avoiding the full bar in the "Mess Hall." After grabbing some Thai food for dinner, my husband and I went into the mess hall to grab a beer, some wine, and a table. I made the mistake of going to the full bar to get a $14 glass of wine (literally the cheapest one on the menu), and in the two steps from the bar to where the bottle of wine was, the bartender LOST my ID... No joke. He gave me my bill and my cc, but no ID. When I told him hed forgotten to give me my ID back, he looked at me like I was crazy, and told me I hadnt given him an ID. Seeing as how it had been a full 3 minutes since Id handed it to him, I was 100% sober, and Im not a total moron- I assured him that I had indeed given him an ID when I handed him the CC. He looked around for maybe 45 seconds before looking at me, saying "well I cant find it" and then telling me I should help him look. Frankly I was blown away. No apology, no real effort, just trying to blame a "disappearing ID" on the customer. After a good 5 mins of this, my husband came inside to ask what was going on (as in- how the hell does a bartender lose an ID in 40 seconds?), and a manager-type woman came over to "investigate" and see what had happened. Much like her poorly trained staff, this woman seemed to immediately pass the buck when it came to my ID. I was totally blown away at the way they were treating me-- as though it was my fault. Finally she walks over with a pad of paper and a pen, and has the audacity to ask me for my name and number, because theyve looked enough for my ID for right now and will "look for it at the end of the night when they clean the place up…" No joke. I assured her that we were not going anywhere until she found my ID. Finally, after perhaps opening their eyes and actually looking, they found my ID (are these people high?) and handed it over to me with these exact words- "crisis averted!" No apology, no- "wow, that was our fault, can we comp your drink?" No nothing!! It really wasnt the totally moronic fumble with my ID that got under my skin, but the terrible way it was handled. If this place plans to stay around for awhile, I highly suggest they either send their staff back to customer service training 101, or fire everyone and start from scratch. What a total joke.

We returned for a second time to visit those vendors that werent open a month ago. It was significantly less crowded. The aisles are very tight and one stopped mom with stroller can tie up the an entire aisle. Poor space planning! The raw bar offerings had a different menu this time This one had some priced items and some without. I dont think I should have to ask before ordering? The owner or manager used two of the twelve available stools to do her work. While Our ceviche was really good, it was accompanied by the smell of her banana left half eaten on a box on the seat next to us. She also ate her cheese sandwich while giving orders to her workers and staff. When we asked for our bill, the waiter had to ask her what to charge for a sushi roll and they "decided" the price on the spot. .?? We really like the selection of cheeses at the cheese bar. Very expensive, but worth a splurge now and then. They nicely offer a taste of anything you might want to try. We will certainly return to try other places, but I think several of the booths will not make it for too long.

Its basically a glorified food court. Id rate some of the individual stalls much much better, but on the whole its essentially a place to get high end fast casual food from a bunch of different places. Its not even close to being an old school market like you find back east. I guess I was hoping for a better meat counter, maybe a seafood market and a produce area thats bigger than my bedroom. You arent going to come here to do grocery shopping. Youll come to eat a sandwich (or a delicious empanada) and maybe happen to buy a steak for later. Plus I came on a Tuesday and it was pretty busy. With one lane roads in and out of Liberty Station I can imagine it being an absolute nightmare on weekends...which means stopping by Stone for a quick growler fill is basically a thing of the past. Ill revisit in a few months but this area just became a place Ill avoid on my weekends.

Wonderful dining and vendor booth experience. Very reminiscent of the Public Market in LA with all the wonderful food and drink choices. Too many wonderful things to eat it will require multiple trips. This time around we enjoyed Pi Bar and ordered the sampler which is a half piece of each type of pie. Perfect for an afternoon Snack. Not sure the name of the wine bar but I ordered the Sangria and although it did not have any fruit in it it was still a wonderful drink with blood orange and elderflower notes. Parking seems to be bad but there is really quite a bit of parking close by near the Ace hardware which is still very very close to the heart of the market. Will definitely be going back soon.

Whoever hired your General Manager for the Mess Hall restaurant was incredibly rude over the weekend. If youre going to hold private event I strongly suggest creating some type of signage to minimize future customer confusion. (Even after offering to seat us down at the bar). One more thing and please add this to your "SOFT OPENING LESSONS LEARNED DOC" if youre going tell guests to leave due to a private event, perhaps someone can properly cross-train your GM on how to handle customer service related issues. Even to the point where your own staff felt awful for the way she treated us. Sadly this place has left a sour taste in our mouths and strongly reccommend you correct this matter FAST!

What a great new place to hang in San Diego! The new public market, on a busy evening or weekend can be crowded and cramped. I guess that makes it more exciting?! Im sure on a usual week day, the intimate venue is good. The great thing about the market, is you can get food from any one of dozens of stands (I went with Mastiff Sausage Co.) and then get a drink at the bar. Theres a great outdoor patio area with astroturf, lounge chairs, booths and bar stools. Apparently all the parents of young children have already discovered that this is a great place to come and meet their friends. Very family friendly. Id love to try out the sit-down restaurant in the market sometime soon as well!

Looks like a great start, but at 9 am on a Saturday morning, most of the vendors werent even open. The website says everyone opens at 11, but some of us want to get on with our day before that:) The staff at West Bean Coffee and Cane Patch Kitchen were great, as was the coffee, tea and sweet potato pie we bought there. Croissant sandwiches from Le Parfait Paris were delicious, but the server was so busy texting he forgot to give our order to the cook. He never even looked up at the woman in line behind us. She finally had to wave her credit card between him and his cell phone to get his attention. So, theres potential here, but still a long way to go!
