Best VEGAN donuts!! The quality is very high for a donut shop, but thats what makes this place awesome! Almost turned around when I saw the line, but Im glad I stuck it out, so worth it! The vegan options are so yummy even future vegans were buying them! I got one of each vegan option. The strawberry split was my fave, they use a high quality vegan whip cant even tell the difference from dairy whip, and the strawberries where fresh and sweet and the sugar dount they use, was light and fluffy. The vegan banana carmel was my next favorite, has a rich banana flavor with a cake donut texture that was moist. The creme brulee (if thats how you spell it lol) was good, the texture nice and moist the top was covered with the burnt sugar you find on real creme brulee, a little too hard for my liking but flavor was nice, the creme on the inside was delish, whish it had a tad bit more. And last was the apple fritter, now Im not an apple fritter fan so maybe not the best to give an opinion, but I wanted to try it since it was vegan, but yeah just like all the other fritters Ive had I wasnt a fan of this one, inside texture was nice, soft and moist, loved the cinnamon flavor with real apple chucks, the maple on the outside was a nice touch, but as always the overly fried outside just turns me off, but if youre into it Im sure you would be pleased, and the size is ginormous! All in all loved the donuts, staff was really friendly and seemed to like working there. Pretty expensive for donuts, but these are definitely higher quality and most are triple the size of your average donuts. Really a special occasion or treat kinda donuts.

Donut Bar is the newest, coolest donut shop to pop up in San Diego. Theyre not open 24 hours, they werent originally open on Sundays, and when they sell out they make no apologies. Good for them. I always buy the best ingredients I can, and when I saw them on the morning news holding their giant bottle of Nielsen Massey Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla, I knew these donuts were going to be winners. The best ingredients and an old-timey feel with their logo draw me in. The owners and donut pushers are creative, fun, and always participating in local events. They are IN the community. Ive enjoyed some of the donuts, not all. But one thing in common that I noticed with ALL the ones Ive tried: theyre not dripping in grease, and I love that. You can get a delicious fluffly donut, without the nasty oil slick. You can also beat the crowds and pre-order dozens online to pickup the next day. Donut Bar has won awards upon awards, have already opened a second shop in Orange County, and are making their holey mark on the world. My favorite has been the cartoonish fun Homer donut.. Doh! And the Google Donuts were awesome! Ive yet to try the CroBar. Its not easy to make, and I know its a labor of love.

Its a cute experience. The big Homer doughnut was good, it has a consistency of a cake/doughnut bread feel and taste. I also tried the blueberry cheesecake doughnut it was good. However, the reason why I dont give the doughnuts its 5 stars is because I think they dont hit the comfort food spot/category. Maybe because the doughnuts are cold, I dont know, but I do know you wont crave these doughnuts. However, the doughnuts are still good and its a nice way to give your doughnut outing a twist of cool, because the are so darn big and creative. Theres a small upstairs lounge where you can eat your donut if youre lucky to find a spot to sit [I was, yay for that]. I also found parking about 2 or 3 blocks away that cost me 55 cents. As for the doughnut bill, I paid $9. I got 2 small milks and 1 homer doughnut and 1 blueberry cheesecake doughnut. It was a good experience for a total of $10, my 15 year old son was happy, so I was a happy mom too. I recommend you check it out yourself, just try not to pay for parking. I personally did not buy a doughnut to go for my husband because I want him to experience the little bar too cause its cooler than your neighborhood corner doughnut shop

I finally caved and woke up early to see what all the hype was about. After reading reviews about the incredibly long lines, I was hesitant but made my way over to donut bar at 7:30am on a Tuesday. NO LINE. I hear that Mondays and Tuesdays are the best days to go to avoid a line. So, if youre lucky and your job somehow allows you these days off, go then! The donuts are delicious and so unique. The donuts displayed closest to customers have the traditional style of dough youd expect in your typical glazed donut. I tried the cake batter and butter beer and they were both delicious. But, the highlight was truly the banana caramel donut. It was a cake donut style and it was so good! I highly recommend getting the cake donuts that are located further behind the counter. Yes, they are smaller (which someone behind me in line questioned) but they are more dense. The next time I come back, I am DEFINITELY filling up on the cake style donuts. Overall, I gave in to the hype and I dont regret it. These donuts are bomb dot com and the next time I get a Monday or Tuesday off, youll probably find me here (not waiting in line hopefully) to get some more donuts!

After hearing so many recommendations for Donut Bar, I was expecting something transcendental. I was warned to get there early since they they close when they run out of donuts. I was warned there would be a long line. We arrived 15-20 minutes before opening and joined the line that was already half a block long. And waited. After opening it still took 45 minutes to get donuts. Eventually made it out with a half dozen donuts, $18 dollars poorer. These donuts range in size from "normal" to "how do I get this in my mouth?" Cut the donuts so we can ask get a taste of each donut and sit down, mouth watering. Its a donut. With frosting, or glaze, or ganache. Sprinkles, or marshmallows, or bacon, or nuts. But its a donut. Nothing amazing. Nothing transcendent. Its tastes good, yes. But nothing amazing. Nothing I would wait an hour for. I found paying $18 for 6 donuts more galling because the owners Lamborghini was parked in front.

We had heard so much about the Donut Bar and were completely stoked when we found prime parking one day. But sadly, we were not too impressed. And equally perturbed by the aloof service the co-habby and I received on our first visit. I understand they are well-liked, their doughnuts are apparently very popular amongst their regulars but the ones we purchased were pleasantly large, however, quite dry and average at best. Maybe I need to come back and try different flavors but after the experience we received, Im a bit soured on returning here although their Monte Cristo intrigues me. They run a bit pricey but I can at least say that there donuts would probably fill you up due to their hefty size, so you get your moneys worth. I however, did not bother finishing mine. Ours were sweet but extremely dry and nothing to write home about. But Im more disappointed in the quality or lack thereof of service here.
