Unfortunately the espresso machine was down today and so we were relegated to some later-in-the-afternoon pour-overs.. Two nice pour-overs today: 1) Kenyan "Lennette" from Bird Rock Coffee Roasters (Micro-Roaster of the year 2012) for Ali. Cherries and Dark Chocolate came out, Red Plum and Blood Orange not so much. 2) For me a "Tana Toraja" from Sulawesi (Indonesia) from Demitasse Roasters in Sacramento. The black tea, bergamot, and red fruits pop out, but no hint of honeydew. Cute place overall :). Easy atmosphere... A bit chilly inside - more warmth would be more cozy. The whole staff is in sweaters and jackets. The brick is nice, but cold! Nice stop... Check it out!

Ive been going to Chocolate Fish since they opened. These guys have great coffee. Now, before you go, Ill warn you. If you think Starbucks is good and you like that sharp burnt coffee taste, then this is not the coffee place for you. Instead, at Chocolate Fish youll get properly roasted coffee turned into excellent beverages. The staff is always awesome, and after youve been there a couple times theyll remember your name and greet you by name unless you havent been there in a while and they perhaps forgot it. I think the prices are very comparable to other places, especially when you consider the quality. As I said, the finished product is always excellent here.

I have never been picky about the coffee shop I go to; one was always as good as the next... until I discovered the Chocolate Fish! Its my escape to the Land Downunder without leaving my hometown! Moreover, the staff as well as the owners are absolutely wonderful and welcoming. My tension melts away whenever I come in here, and when I feel like tea instead of coffee, that Apple Mango Rooibos Tea soothes me more than chamomile! ...oh, and did I forget to mention the lush greenery surrounding the shop that makes you feel like youre in a forest???

Friendly, smiling staff. Best Flat Whites this side of New Zealand. Tasty pastries. Quiet place to sit and enjoy delicious coffee drinks and read or spend time with a friend. My wife and I live in the bay area but whenever we are passing through Sacramento we get off the freeway to visit Chocolate Fish. It is very near the freeway exit/entrance so it takes no time.

Disclaimer: the 4 stars might get up to 5 on subsequent visitation :) I have no problems with Chocolate Fish--Great coffee, knowledgeable folks making it (and who very successfully helped me pick out one of their four coffee offerings that would suit me), peaceful patio setting (or was on a Sunday morning). Not too expensive; not dirt cheap.

The vegan carrot cupcakes are to die for! I used to think I loved coffee, but now I cant drink anything but Chocolate Fish without feeling disappointed. The baristas remember your name and your order, and the free Wi-Fi makes it a pleasure to sit and enjoy the day. They even gave me excellent advice on coffee-related Christmas gifts last year.

The coffee is great, the people are genuinely nice, the scones are incredible and there is a lot of seating outside. Bring cash if you are spending less than $10 (credit/debit card txn fees are high) but the easy way around that if you are a regular is to buy a gift card.

The coffee there is some of the best! Now they roast there own beans! Would be 5★s but it is very expensive. I was hoping since they roast their own beans, the price would go down a bit. It has actually gone up. Whaaaaa! None the less, the coffee is great.

Good place for a cup of coffee. Wonderful, relaxing coffee shop, and yet hidden away from the very busy street. All the things are great tasting and also their behaviors are laid back, entertaining, clever and artsy. I love it here!

Coffee shop that really knows their coffee. Excellent espresso, made perfectly. Also had a mocha that was perfect, not chocolate milk with a little coffee but a rich espresso/chocolate pairing. Dont hesitate to drop in here.

I stop in a couple times a week just to say hello, and of course enjoy one of their fantastic coffee drinks. Everybody working there is so friendly, and they take extra care in making each and every cup. Highly recommended.

Fast and friendly service, I had a tasty drip coffee on the way to see a client downtown. Parking can be a challenge here. There is lots of outdoor seating available but not much indoors.
