Went with the fam on the day of public opening. While I had no real expectations, I did enter knowing that initial set-up and kinks could be on hand. Surprisingly, there wasnt a huge line or anything - we were able to start ordering as soon as WE were ready. The counter employee was nice and helpful, offering a brief explanation of the way it works (pick your base milk type, your flavor and if you want any mix/add-ins)... and soon we had everything entered into their system. Being made-to-order, each unique ice cream order is printed out and placed on a mixing bowl to be staged for development. Since each ice cream is made independent of the others, this contributes to what can be a long wait if you have a lot of people in your party (we were 5) or are right after one. Now, Im not going to try and figure out their way of determining what is made when, but what I experienced snowballed into a standing freeze. As my ice cream was being made, it was giving the craftician (I make words up) some difficulty. Problem was that after all of their effort and delay in getting it made, they discovered they had mixed up the wrong proportions - yielding a smaller size than what I ordered. So while my family all had their orders by now, I was standing there watching them start from scratch (as they started to finish orders that were placed after mine). There was no apology or explanation - just an inquiry my direction of "are you waiting for xxxxxx" and my response saying "yes, thats for me". They could have offered me up the small version of what I ordered as consolation, perhaps with option to receive a gift card to balance out the difference I paid rather than wait it out, but nothing. So, I waited for a new order to be crafted from scratch and eventually received it - again, without apology for the delay or any consolation. Yeah, the ice cream was smooth (hard to argue with rapid freezing of milk molecules making for reduced size). The texture is really all that this place has over anywhere else. I dont think its worth it based on $ alone. I have plenty of good store bought organic options that I would more easily and cheaply acquire than this, also without the insincere service when goofing an order. At least acknowledge it and apologize folks. I wont be back; enjoy you new home in Cerritos and the lemmings that drop their money your way. Just please extend some genuine appreciation and care for those people that keep you in business.

"Cream, get on top. Cream, you will cop. Cream, dont you stop. Cream, sha boogie bop." - "Cream", Prince The second & superior liquid nitrogen ice cream shop Ive ever been to, Creamistry is located just a stones throw away from me in Cerritos. Located in the uber busy 85 Degrees plaza, parking can be a pain buts definitely worth your while to pay a visit for some flash frozen foolery. Heres the itinerary, brothers & sisters- Choose your size- Small, Medium, Family & Specialty Choose your base- Premium, Organic (extra charge), Sorbet & NitroDole Choose your flavor- 50+ Choose your toppings/mix-ins- 50+ Choose your vessel- Cup, cone, waffle etc. Arriving with a few friends, it was the perfect opportunity to have a taste of what everyone ordered. Chocolate hazelnut, w/ Premium base-Wow! The liquid nitrogen ice cream was dense like gelato. The flavor was on point, with chocolate satisfying this chocoholic & the hazelnut undertones giving me flashbacks to when Id finish a Nutella jar in one day. Oh, the memories.......... Churro, w/ Premium base-Viva la raza! Cant go wrong with some cinnamon-sugar sweetness. Tasted like its namesake, if a little muted. A more assertive churro presence wouldve contented my tastebuds Reeses Peanut Butter, w/ Premium base-For the peanut butter lover in all of us, the Reeses is dangerous. I felt my hips starting to sag over my man spanx ;p Delicious! Cookie Butter, w/ Premium base-Another deadly concoction thatll deep-six your diet, the cookie butter tasted just like having a spoonful of Trader Joes cookie butter. I was as happy as when I put salt on my rear end & went to the petting zoo ;p BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Creamistry gets quite busy, even past 10pm when we were there. Expect your custom creation to take awhile before holding it in your grubby paws. Seating is minimal, with a few 2-person tables available. There are places to sit outdoors, if you dont care to see the liquid nitrogen show being performed in front of you. Creamistry, youre as cool as a cucumber & Im a fan! I immensely enjoyed all that I had the pleasure to taste. The myriad of different possible flavor combinations will have me coming back with a grin, again & again. Highly recommend! My sister excitedly told me that Creamistry is finally open, so we decided to go one Thursday night with my mom. It was still the soft opening and PACKED but they moved along fairly efficiently. The three of us opted for the regular/small size sans toppings with the standard milk. Its kind of annoying that you dont get one topping included in the price and that you have to pay extra for organic milk. I did find the ice cream to be really heavy. Flavors: Cheesecake: Barely a hint of cheesecake. It was good quality creamy ice cream, but the cheesecake flavor at Cold Stones is much more prominent. Cinnamon Toast Crunch: Tasted JUST like the cereal and milk! Quite impressive although I could have personally gone with more cinnamon. Birthday cake: Also good. For some reason, this is the flavor that ice cream shops get down pat. Qualms: 1. Price - $5.50 is steep considering it doesnt come with any toppngs. I understand the novelty is in the liquid nitrogen, but Id much rather have a smaller size (the small is still really heavy) 2. Atmosphere: SO crowded and a bit disorganized. Everyone is shuffled over to a small area to wait for their ice cream, and it all ran into the line that was forming out the door. This was all despite the fact that there were tons of staff working and running around. Guess theres not much to do but wait for the store to get less popular? Overall, its a good novel experience, but I wont be running back. Although the flavors are good, the ice cream itself is much too heavy to be an after-dinner dessert, and the cost is a little too high - it is ice cream after all.

While Creamistry really does produce some of the creamiest ice creams Ive ever had, combined with the sciency fun of made to order ice cream flash frozen before your eyes, the high prices and long waits are what knocked a star off of my rating. The staff are all friendly and excited about their product, albeit they are all brand new since this location is still operating under a soft opening (as of 9/13/14). I get the feeling that the people making the ice cream are still trying to figure it all out. I saw about 10 people working hard to make the ice cream, yet it took 2-3 minutes between each order announced. The biggest problem with their operation is that if you have 2 orders on the same ticket they dont come out at the same time. My wife and I ordered 2 different items last weekend and it took about 7-8 minutes to get my order after she received hers. They need to somehow figure out how to link several connected orders. Now the good news is that the ice cream was AMAZING, so we put up with it. At $5.50 for a small, $8.50 for a medium, and $9.50 for a "family" its no secret what size they are pushing customers to order. This place is a not a come everyday ice cream spot like 31 flavors or Thriftys might be, Creamistry is for special nights, when youre already prepared to drop $50 on whatever youre doing. But like I said, the product is incredible and hopefully they are going to improve their order method because Im sure well be back again and again and again.
