I used to live in Albany and would frequent Toot Sweets. My favorite is their carmalita bar - when its available. After being away from the area for 5 years, I was back in the hood, and went to Toots for my fave. I loved it. I went back 3 more times over the course of the next week two weeks, and they were out of the carmalita bars EVERY time. On the first attempt, I bought a brownie - not a good replacement. It was gooey and tasted under baked. I went back a few days later for a carmalita bar. They were out. I asked why they were always out. The server claimed they cannot anticipate demand. I explained that being out of carmalita bars was a problem 5 years ago, and it continues to be a problem. I told her if a product is constantly out of stock, theyre not making enough. The server suggested I call in advance to be sure they had c-bars in stock before making the trip there. I said if I want a carmalita bar, I expect it to be there. The 4th attempt was at 10am on a Sunday morning. The same server again told me to call 1st. Its total BS that theyre out of something 3 out of 4 times. This is consistent with my previous experience. This is not a way to run a business.

There are so many great places in Berkeley. These are all chemical cakes. The coffee is burnt. I dont understand who is keeping these guys in business. Nothing is fresh

Bakery/coffee shop. Great place to stop for coffee and a scone, cookie or other treat. Excellent and beautiful cakes. The best pecan pie I ever ate.
