TLDR: Terrible service. We waited a half-hour without so much as a glass of water before we were told the cook was not serving any more food that night. It is Memorial Day weekend and we go to town for some food. We called the Boardwalk Café ahead and arrived a half-hour before closing time, assured by the staff that we would get a spot. A server welcomed us, promptly cleaned the table and gave us menus. I took an almost immediate liking to the elk burger and banana-something dessert. There are also good-looking organic & vegetarian options. I wish I could tell you what they tasted like but we had no further interaction with that server. The first sign of trouble was the cook spotting us and cursing. We start to make eye contact with the passing servers for the next 25 minutes until finally a lady comes up to us and asks us how we got in (seriously?). She then explains that she will not be able to serve us because the cook has refused to make any more food. Maybe staff assurances a half-hour before closing time mean nothing. Maybe the Boardwalk Café does not like money. But this represents a failure of all staff for not communicating ANY of this to us and making us sit there while other food joints close up. The cherry on top was when we asked where else we could eat and got a “I don’t know”, an insult in a town of under 500 people. I can only conclude that either it is hard to find a good cook in the small town of Jasper, AR, or management is incompetent and won’t get rid of a bad apple (in addition to being passive aggressive). I would like to thank the Boardwalk Café for diverting our money to another local eatery that likes money so much they happily stay open later during holiday weekends. I want you to know I gave the other place a very generous tip.

Atmosphere is that of a home town café. Nothing classy. Clean and void of customers at around 5pm on Friday night. The menu selection looked good but the prices were crazy high. 8oz Elk steak meal - $55 (sliced potato with seasoning and salad as side) Buffalo $45 Razorback $35 Wait staff was slow and wait time for food was about 30 min. Saw a couple come in and looked at the menu and left. Can only assume the reason. They are VERY proud of their food, desserts, etc. Even the price of the pictures on the walls were much like an art gallery in a café setting. If his goal is to have repeat business, he needs to change his business strategy. Ill not be returning. Best of luck

We hope this place makes it. It looks like good people had a good idea to serve healthy food in an eco-friendly restaurant. Unfortunately, they couldnt staff it and handle the very few customers they had the morning we went in. It took nearly and hour for our food and it wasnt prepared as ordered. We had things left off because they were out, but they didnt mention that an hour before when we ordered. Again, maybe we went on a bad day, but we had a bad experience.

We are locals and have been going to the Jasper Boardwalk Cafe since last year and love this place. The food is great, and even more exciting is their dedication to using local produce and organic ingredients. It is so nice to go get a burger that is not shot full of hormones and who knows what else. If you have not watched Food Inc, go watch that documentary and then you will cherish a place like this a little more. :)

Buffulo burger was good. Solar powered joint? Huh, wish the prices werent so $$$! You should catch the little alien shrine/bible next to the bathroom, definitely coincides with the whole organic/local/solar neurosis. To his, his own I guess. I liked the service/people.

Wanted a nice lunch, but had to go find someone to wait on us, then have someone slam menus down on our table without saying one word to us! Needless to say I took my business elsewhere. The rudest people, not a way to treat customers.

Awesome place to enjoy a meal! Allowed us to bring our own wine, everything there is local and very good. Shrimp creole and fresh Trout are amazing along with great hometown atmosphere. Next time were in Jasper we will eat here for sure!

Just didnt like menu selections. These epicurean menus are expensive and the food tasted bad. Going down the street. If they change it up then Ill try going back. Low Gap and Ozark make this a great area to eat.

These folks are definitely going out of there way to promote local, organic, and tasty food. The staff treat you like youre already a regular. The veggie burger is by far the best Ive tasted in a restaurant.

Great food, great customer service, and is a lot healthier than the Ozark Cafe.
