brought my bike in on a Saturday as my brakes were completely shot after some heavy downhill biking. The employee asked me if Monday would be okay for pickup. I explained to him that I was under the impression I would be getting my bike back in a matter of hours due to the labor not being as intensive. (Keep in mind Im new to cycling). I also let him know its currently my only mode of transportation to get to and from college everyday as I just moved here. He was extremely understanding and told me hed put a note in to let the workers know about my situation. Lets just say Im a fairly young guy, and so was he. I know how most people my age are, so I didnt get my hopes up. Sunday rolls around, at about 3:00pm I get a call from the bike shop telling me my bike was ready for pickup! I immediately stopped by to pick up my bike. Once they brought it out, I instantly noticed a lot more has been done to my bike than just the brake pads. I had a new chain, new pads, new quick release handles on my front tire (not sure what theyre called). And a bunch of other small parts were replaced. I became somewhat worried as maybe they charged me for all of this , however my total was what I was originally told. I let them know how grateful I was. These guys are great and really know how to help people out. I wish I got the guys name because I would definitely give him some recognition. But hopefully he will see this and see that being a good person pays off!

Got a bike from a friend. Brand new some random no name bike. Aspen something. Assembled it and couldnt quite get the calipers right on the disc breaks. Took it into the maintenance and repairs. They wouldnt even touch the bike. Said "we wont work on such low end bikes." Then told me that they never work right and they can spend days trying to get that to work. As I was leaving the guy told me that if I could get it to work I could have a job there. I told him I was just looking to get the calipers evened out and he said it was "the easiest part". Ended up going home empty handed. They didnt offer anything in the way of customer service. It was a pretentious experience. In the end it took a lot more effort than I wanted but I got the breaks working. Bike works fine now. The general mood was a bud down for such a sunny day back there. I get that on a bright day youd expect their business is high and they dont have as much time or they are back logged, but its still no excuse for service like that. Oddly when I called the store on Dimond they said they would have done it, even after I mentioned the brand name.

I will echo what other reviewers have said to this point. Rubbish shop, the DMV is a more pleasant experience... I havent bought a bike here but I had a fork serviced and in a real pinch bought a wheelset. The wheelset was marked over MSRP by 30% (TBC 32s MSRP $360 Their Price $480) I bought them anyway in a moment of weakness. Right after I bought the wheels I ask a question about my how my fork was seating in my headset, I had a picture and everything. They guy offered no advice and told me to bring my bike in, AFTER I over paid for wheels. I guess when I support the LBS Im hoping that my extra cash used to purchase over priced gear will at least by me advice and good conversation. Dont go here. The guys down on diamond where more personable and laid back but I have a hard time wanting to take my business there as they are under the same ownership. Once I find a good shop around Anchorage I will review.

Mixed feelings. But basically as a new cyclist I wanted some instructions on the equipment I need. The employee was some what helpful. Sold me a C02 tire inflator, which works awesome, mounted a new bottle holder to the frame which is also good as well as a small pouch underneath the seat, but for some reason sold me a hand pump without warning me that they dont work well with thin tires / prestavalves. Theres no way to pump 120psi from a little hand pump in the first place, but while trying somehow I moved the valve in such a way that the tube ripped and I had to replace it with the only spare tube I purchased from them, but I still had to walk to Freddies to get a real pump. Id suggest selling customers things that will serve them well (such as c02 inflator) but be honest when they are about to sell you a piece of crap hand pump.

I brought my bike in for a tune-up. When it came back, I had to travel and just got to riding it. Unfortunately, my commute is harder than ever because while the brakes are fixed, the front wheel is out of line and rubs on the brakes and it takes anywhere from 3 to 8 seconds for the gears to shift. For the amount of money that I paid, what a disappointment. I went to the store, and the clerk told me that she was surprised that I was unhappy, they did a great job there. Didnt offer to let me talk to anyone else, so I turned around and left. The worst part it, I use my bike for 100% of my transportation, so I have to use it like this until the end of July when I can take it somewhere else and get is fixed right. Save your money, go somewhere else.

SPECIALIZED The guys at the bicycle shop really stand by their product. When I went into the store to buy my first real bike back in 2008, they went through the effort of explaining to me why specialized bikes are designed for excellent performance. The bike that I ended up purchasing there had lasted me years, even though I ride HARD. When I finally broke the frame down by the chain stay, they called specialized for me and got a new frame shipped to me free of charge. They also let me use a stand in the back near closing time (took a little longer then I expected, but they let me stay past 7, when they usually close) to transfer my components from my old bike to my new bike. Thats customer service!

Ive given these guys two chances to be my go-to shop but the guys that hang out and "work" for them arent very helpful, nor are the very friendly. The first time I stopped in, I needed parts for a Specialized bike, naturally you would think theyd be helpful. After explaining what I was looking for, the sales rep tried to sell me a newer version of my bike and after explaining that I just needed one part, he walked away without helping. The second time was a different rep, that just gave me a very short "over there" when I asked about apparel. Although I have heard good things from others, I wont be shopping here or recommending any new customers.

I called to get some beta on the best local mountain biking. Ive only been in Anchorage for a few months. The guy that answered was short and rude. I called Chain Reaction immediately after getting off the phone and they were helpful and friendly. They steered me in the right direction and gave me some trail recommendations. Whats the point of working at a bike shop if you have no interest in community development and or at the very least, customer service? Ive never been in this shop and Ill be sure not to avoid it when I purchase a full-suspension bike this year.
