I have been meaning to write about my experience at Gander Mountain for a couple of weeks but had to ask my grandson for some help on how to do this. I made an Internet account just to do this because my experience was that great! My husband and I went to Gander Mountain to purchase a concealed carry gun because we have been having problems with our rental properties and because a friend referred us to yall. It was a rather busy Saturday and I could tell the employees we overwhelmed and some of the customers were getting impatient such as myself. There was this very nice young lady behind the counter, Danielle I believe was her name, and she noticed we were getting frustrated. She came over and very kindly apologized for the wait and began to ask us several very good questions about our needs. Needless to say, she was very knowledgeable, very professional, and extremely helpful. She went out of her way to show us guns that we thought would help us and guns she thought would better suit our needs. This young lady even helped me compare one gun to another by holding them correctly. I have never really cared for guns and I can now say I am comfortable around them and that is how well this young lady did in helping us both. At the end of our visit, my husband ended up getting a Smith and Wesson revolver and he loves it!

So I walk into Gander Mountain to kill some time and I am looking at the gun cases. I see a sign that says Pelican case for 39.99 and its sitting on top of a pile of pelican cases. I carry the case and the sign to the gun counter to ask if the price is right. I then walk to the front of the store because there is a line of people waiting at the gun counter and no workers back there. The cashier informs me the cases are actually $120. She calls a worker from the back to help me out. We go back to the case section and he shows me a Gander Mountain brand case that he says is $50 which I then try to buy. The cashier informs me this case is actually $70. Im sorry but if the signs are all wrong and the staff cant decide on prices it is not worth my time.

Ive been here at least 2 times. They have a HUGE selection on everything outdoors. Last visit, I was looking for a good fillet knife & was trying to decide b/t Walmart or Gander Mountain. I chose this place b/c even though their knives were more expensive, I could tell they were of better quality. I was able to test the knife (Dexter P94825) & I could shave with the blade!! Ill edit this once I take it out & use it for fish. The other time I went in was for freeze-dried food. A nice, wide selection there, too. But I do not recommend Backpackers Pantry. BP is disgusting. Mountain House is the way to go. The packages may seem more expensive, but theyre twice the size of Walmarts packages & therefore better value.

I predicted this store would fail here in Mobile on the day it opened. Prices were higher than any place in town for the same items... with another big box sporting goods retailer just blocks away offering not only better prices but easier access and better parking. As the months went by, the store started having issues with employee moral, turnover was horrible... seems like every few weeks there were staff changes. this tells me that in addition to the original challenges, the store suffered through poor management. Great management can sometimes overcome less than ideal market conditions, but this store was doomed. Inept management was evident from the beginning.

Love this place whether its to just browse or to actually buy something. I go in for the camping section and I can get lost in there for hours at a time. More often than not I come away with something. Lots of great things for the outdoorsman. It is pretty pricey but what you are paying for is quality products. Always catch a sale. This place is awesome.

While im not happy people are losing their jobs, i am happy that gander is leaving. Their prices where marked much higher than other outdoor stores in the area. Their current going out of business sale even with the "steep" discounts are still expensive. The overall feel of the store was nice, but it wasnt priced for the area.

Great customer service when inside the store, but dont try to get anyone on the phone, not even customer service. Let the phone ring for 7 minutes, 56 seconds and then it hung up. It takes customer service on average of 1 minute, 37 seconds to answer the phone. A lifetime when holding on for someone to answer.

Great place to shop, but have to go at certain hours when they arent too busy in order to get someone to help with questions. Also, their stock doesnt match up with their website so if youre looking for a particular item, its best to call first before driving there...even if the website says its in stock.

Worst service ever!!!!! I went to buy a pistol, the salesman took forever to bring it out and when he finally did return he was very rude so I told him I wasnt interested anymore. I went right down the road to academy and bought it there. It work out for the best because the gun was cheaper at academy

Went in looking for some things and couldnt even get anyone to help me. Went back a 2nd time after calling and being told they had a item in stock ( an employee went and looked supposedly) drove there and had 0, was told in person they had been out of that for a while. Wasted trip even after calling

Unfortunately, the girl who helped my husband was on two different occasions very rude. She motioned instead of speaking and ignored him when he was polite. We would like to shop here more often, but if this is the customer service then we can surely take our business elsewhere.

I called ahead and had questions about my shotgun (Harrington & Richardson) hanging up after cleaning it. I brought it in and salesman was friendly and knowledgeable!! Took his advice and now its like my Mossberg was in the service: smooth action and reliable!! Thanks!

Vast selection of outdoor survival and camping equipment; good selection of clothing, footwear, hats and apparel for the family. Fantastic firearms Department, knowledgeable staff, they honor pricing (price matching), and will tell you so. You get what you pay for.

Bought a gun there Im not sure if the guys work on commission or what but I got the vibe if your not spending big $$$ they are not very interested in helping you. The price was right so I bought it anyway, but seriously considered walking away at one point.

I gave the store 4 stars because its just amazing I didnt even buy anything. BUT I will say this if youre going there to buy a gun it may be a wait cuz there are a lot of people going there to buy guns.

Its a high end type of store. Prices are a little high on handguns and apparel. Good quality name brands though and the staff is friendly.
