I was in town and said I wanted some oysters on the half shell. My dad and bro in law took me to Barrentines. We sat at the oyster bar and placed our order for oysters on the half shell. There were 3 shuckers on the job immediately. The first dozen was served in about 2-3 minutes. Ice cold, salty Apalachicola, FL oysters. Served with a sleeve of saltines, Tabasco and coctail sauce. I dont remember if there was horseradish or lemon. The price was about 7$ a dozen. Between the three of us we put down 12 dozen and we all felt fine. We also got some fresh gulf shrimp and a whole red snapper to go. This place is not a tourist attraction- it is a locals no frills joint but serves quality seafood fast and at reasonable prices. I later came back with my wife and daughter. Highly recommended.

I was recommended barrentines for their chili dogs, being a fan of chili dogs I was looking forward to my visit for lunch. however I was sorely disappointed in what I received. two mediocre hotdogs with plain ground beef on top, last I checked unseasoned beef did not qualify as chili, and not only that but I wasnt even given a plate to eat off of. my dogs in their wrappers were simply put on the table in front of me, I also did not get my fries until I had long finished my dogs, I realize this place is a fish market but I also witnessed a man behind the counter shucking oysters that had a lit cigarette in his mouth and watched as not once but twice ashes fell into the oysters he was preparing, that he simply brushed off. now Im no ninny or whiner , but I wont be going back to barrentines again
