This grocery store is by far my favorite in Madison - we live out by Meriter Hospital and we still drive all the way to Jenifer St. Market for their groceries! They only take cash, which is fine - you just just have to be prepared. Their staff are helpful and nice. Their deli counter is DELICIOUS, I cant get enough of the cheese they have. They always have a sale on some kind of cheese when we go. I also love, love, love this store because they sell Sassy Cow milk (I ONLY drink Sassy Cow) and they have a great mix of organic, specialty items as well as everyday, cheaper options. Also, their bakery is PHENOMENAL, and so are their prices. Their delicious muffins are only 99 cents each!!! And theyre amazing!!! The old review complaining that they dont take anything but cash is silly. Lots of local businesses in Madison only take cash. Just something you have to be aware of before you go, no biggie. Also, if you use the ATM in their store, it costs you a dollar, but then you get a receipt that has a coupon to take a dollar off your grocery bill, so they make sure not to rip you off just for withdrawing. Nice place :)

Meat and Fish selections are excellent; great produce and full selection market in a compact setting. My wife and I are long time customers. The one black mark that I hold against this and many or most other markets, pharmacies, etc., is having to stand before headlines screaming out at me from the National Enquirer and other similar rags that peddle hate, lies, and hyperbole. (Todays headline reminded me that Obama is going to great lengths to undermine the Trump presidency-most if not all of the political headlines and stories are filled with innuendo, hate, and out right untruths that are at best laughable, at times simply hurtful garbage). I wish that stores would not offer prime viewing/advertising space to these publications. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Happy shopping.

Their local produce and meat beat the co-op hands-down. They have more of a focus on local than organic, but they have a good selection of organic food, too. For staples, I still make the trek out to Woodmans, but I am done risking it buying conventional produce. At least when somethings organic or local you can usually tell if its gone bad! Conventional produce lures you in to thinking its still good, until you peal your orange to find starchy grossness inside. Anyway, Jen St usually has high quality at low prices. Plus, youre supporting a small business and keeping money in the economy instead of giving it to tax dodgers with foreign accounts.

I go to Jenny Street Market for my produce and meat. Its also great for organic items that are harder to find in the larger grocery stores. Any other "commercial items" are a bit overpriced, and I shop elsewhere for them. The fruit and veggies are always fresh and you never have to dig for a good piece. The meat is the same way. The employees are great -- super friendly, always smiling. If I lived in the neighborhood and could walk (which is the majority of their customer base), I would shop their exclusively.

Lots to love about Jeni St. Market. Local produce hand-picked from local farmers! Butcher counter staffed with chipper, knowledgeable folks! Reasonably priced hot and cold deli options, weekly deals, a walk-in beer cooler filled with brews from all over the brews (some hard to find elsewhere) and a whole shelf laden with gourmet chocolate bars! I appreciate that, although they accept cash or local check only, if you withdraw money from the ATM your receipt doubles as a coupon for $1 off your purchase.

This is the perfect local market. Every neighborhood should be so lucky as to have a place like this. Great meat and produce selection and just enough variety throughout the store to make anyone happy. They dont carry all the brands of every product like the big stores, but you can count on finding a great option for whatever your searching for. On top of that, they have probably the best curated beer selection in Madison. Again, not everything from every brand, but definitely the best around.

Just what a neighborhood market should be! Serving the neighborhood. Fair prices. Relatively HUGE produce section, deli, meat counter and bakery. How do they fit it all in there?!? Its a tight squeeze. Great beer cooler. Cash and local checks only. Theres an ATM machine right by the entrance. JSM, you should dedicate the first 1/3 of your parking lot to bicycle racks. The rack right by your front door is great, but you need more! And encourage people to ride, not drive ;-)

Totally have to disagree with most of the reviews here. A lot of the produce is locally grown, which is nice, but it was full of holes, moldy and overripe. Maybe its just the couple of times Ive been, but still. Kind of ridiculous when the produce is in season. The prices are okay but if youre buying anything but meat, its worth it to go to Woodmans or Copps. Plus they only take cash, which is a pain. I live in the neighborhood and I dont even go here.

This is my favorite grocery store in Madison! Sure, its tiny and the aisles are packed and a little claustrophobic, but you can find just about everything you need at a good, competitive price. Lots of seasonal local produce, great meat counter, amazing beer cooler. If youre looking for specialty items or organic produce, youll probably be happier at an upscale grocery store. But if you just need a few things, Jenifer Street Market is the best.

This is my pantry. Good selection of meat, produce, most other needs. Beer selection is extensive for the size of store, and they even provide coats for the cooler (you may be spending more time than you think deciding). Prices are higher than big box grocers but its just around the corner and you can get in and out in the time it would take to drive to and park at the alternative.

Like others have said great deli and meat counter. Their coleslaw and chicken brats are so good. Add some baked beans and thats one of my go to summer meals. Also have a great beer cooler and now accept cards ($10 minimum)! Its overall a great little neighborhood, local spot that Im happy to support whenever I can.

I grew up right down the street from Jenny street. Theyve undergone a lot of changes over the years, but all for the better. They carry good produce (and meat, from what I hear) at reasonable prices. What keeps me coming back is their incredible walk-in beer cooler. What a selection!

Fantastic local neighborhood market, grocery store with beer and wine selections as well. Full service, with convenient parking or easy walking distance. Full selection of products, thoughtfully displayed and easy to find and a cheerful, friendly staff.

The location is great. Its small but the prices are only slightly higher than bigger grocery stores so dont expect to be able to do all your shopping there. The meat counter is impressive and they have a great liquor selection.

I have been shopping there for over 25 years and love it and even though I live out in Sun Prairie I derive to this unique little market ...I hope they dont move to E Wash...it would ruin the atmosphere of the store....
