This used to be one of our favorite places to get lunch, coffee or something from the bakery - that is until I found a bug in my food! I ordered a salad to go and half way through my meal found a live beetle in the salad. Im completely disgusted. I was told the salad comes prewashed so they dont wash it again at the restaurant. Most "prewashed" lettuces that I have seen need to be rinsed before serving. Whats worse is that the owners never called to acknowledge this happened or apologize. And although they promised to credit our meal, they never did. We will NEVER eat here again and I suggest you dont either.

A good friend introduced me to this place a couple of years ago. It is a great place for a quick bite to eat. The bakery counter stops me every time, and some days I just cant seem to walk out without a loaf a fresh baked bread. From their whole wheat sourdough to the in house granola and back to the cookie dough brownies I have never left without a smile on my face. The patio will open back up soon and it is nice that there are a couple of bike racks to lock up when your in the neighborhood. I look forward to the nice weather so that I can ride my bike up and sip on a cup of fresh coffee on the patio.

City Market is my favorite place to eat casual meals with friends and family. Since its just a few blocks from my parents house, has a really cosy atmosphere, and very good food, I frequent it every time Im home. Items like the black pepper parmesean baguette, the raisin walnut rolls, the fudge turtle brownie, and the bruschetta are treats in which I indulge at every opportunity. My only complaint: a limited menu that rarely changes and rather inflated prices. That said, I have been eating here for about a decade (since it opened) and couldnt ask for a better neighborhood landmark.

Whats sad about the city market is it could be very good. The service is pretty bad. You are treated as if you are a burden if they are slightly busy. We were told to order food before finding a table, even though there is a sign to wait to be seated. They were out of the baked oatmeal, so we decided on the quiche. It could have been awesome if it hadnt been reheated in the microwave. So it was rubbery. It was loud and the tables too tightly squeezed together. All in all, a mediocre experience. We wont return as there are so many other GOOD cafes in the area.

I love City Market! Its a great place to eat. The menu has a very nice selection of good quality food and pastry. Theres a lot of good to this place, but if I were to list them all, I would run out of space. This place for me is a feel good place. The pastry is awesome. They have some of the best burgers in Milwaukee. The manager, Adam, is very professional, and you can tell that he cares about his job. I respect him and enjoy the atmosphere at City Market. I highly recommend City Market to anyone, hands down!

My local City Market is my home away from home...not only is the food good (the walnut raisin toast is literally addictive) but it is a great place to read or study as well as meet with friends. The menu offers include a different soup each weekday and most are winners. Its not hard to have several favorite items from which to decide. And, of course since the specialty is baked goods, there is a variety on hand (did I mention the walnut raisin bread?) I recommend this restaurant highly.

Ordered the breakfast panini and it came with micro pieces of pepper and chives when It was described as onions and peppers. The bread was four times the size of the filling and the taste was over all not that great. I honestly dont think I have ever had a breakfast sandwich of this caliber. especially for over $7. They also make you choose a table while at the register so they know what table to bring it to. Why not give a number? The place is pretty small.

Though not very busy when we got there, it took more than 20 minutes (we ended up being late for our next appt.) to get scrambled eggs (luke warm), toast (cold and dry) and pancakes (order was wrong). While ordering, two coworkers interrupted me so that they could talk. Not earth shattering but didnt leave me feeling that my presence was very important. Wonderful atmosphere, fairly disappointing experience. I wont spend my money there again.

On a Saturday its normally busy but the service here is always really good. They have an awesome menu from soup to sandwiches. Its really clean and tables are always getting swiped off or next guest. I love the Sante Fe Salad and the Cranberry Turkey sandwich. Im allergic to onions and Ive never had a problem with them forgetting. 5 stars for consistency!

I ordered the buttered noodles off the kids menu, they were delicious. Food was good, although the staff messed up my friends orders by swapping some of their sandwich toppings. Im giving three stars because the cost was absurd. Even for a basic plate of noodles I had to shell out $5, while my friends each shelled out $10+ for sandwiches with drinks.

Grew up in Shorewood and City Market is almost iconic to the village. Their food is great and they have a wonderful menu that is always changing. The prices and portions are both fair and the service is always good. The staff is happy and they act like it. If you want a quick and well made meal, this is the place.

Overall impression: staff views customers as an annoyance. Overcooked my order (again) and messed up my friends order. Gave free cookie coupons but only cheap cookies even tho coupon makes no such stipulation. Showed no concern that my friend tripped on their bunched up rug when we pointed out the hazard.

Great place to grab a coffee and pastry in the morning before work. Also a great place to order a hot breakfast and relax on the weekend. Dog-friendly patio is nice in the summer. Best cinnamon rolls in the city. The raspberry scone is also a go-to.

Love the City Market. As far as eatery in Milwaukee goes its a little on the pricier end if youre looking to sit down for a meal but its worth every penny. Amazing pasta and the desserts are delicious. Try the fresh fruit tartlets for sure!

Agree with other reviews about service being slow and the noise. One time waited 35 minutes for a SALAD! Been to other City Markets and thats not the case. Best time to come is summer for their outdoor patio.

The bakery here is high quality, especially the cinnamon rolls, they are delicious! I am also a huge fan of the French Bread. I would recommend this place for people who enjoy sweets and bakery items.

A great neighborhood bakery with fantastic menu items for both breakfast and lunch, and they serve local roaster Valentines coffee. Definitely a favorite for Breakfast, Brunch, and Lunch.

If youre looking for baked goods and wifi, youre in luck. This place is big and comfy with free WiFi and good pastries. The rest of the menu is a bit more modestly e executed.
