While visiting family in Milwaukee, we came across Valentine Coffee at the Mitchell conservatory farmers market. The impressively bearded and friendly fellow manning the pour overs was more than happy to discuss coffee and give recommendations. I was interested in buying a couple of pounds of espresso (I do this in every city I visit), but didnt have cash on me. Fortunately, the cafe was just a few miles away. The cafe/roastery is a small, modern space. With a relatively short counter equipped to handle your order, pull some espresso and fiddle with a few pour overs, the workspace for four people was compact. Add a half dozen tables and a merch wall, and youve squeezed (squozen? squeezeled?) as much efficiency out of a storefront as you can get. The sea salt mochas we all had were outstanding, comparable to the best third wave shops Ive been to across the U.S., and the staff were delightful. A weak point for many third wave shops is that hipsters tend to be aloof/paralyzed with social anxiety when confronted with the public. Not these guys! They even look you in the eyes when they talk to you. Finally, the espresso blend I bought was run through my home setup this morning. Excellent: sweet, with a bit of a graham cracker aftertaste. Not as assertive as they bill it (it disappears in milk), but without a trace of bitterness. All in all, a great place - great people, a lovely space, and excellent coffee. Five stars.

The moment you greet the Baristas you get a sense that they appreciate you stopping by! The snacks they have from local resturants and specialties are very fresh and tasty. The Barista is help finding a coffee brew that suits your needs by asking direct questions. I.e. medium or dark roast; chocolatey or nutty. They also serve wine. If you would just like a drink and a snack while you read, work, surf the internet, or study this is your place. If you want to stop by and grab a coffee to go while your on a walk with your baby or child(ren) in a stroller, feel free to stroll right on without having to worry about leaving your child unattened or getting them out of the stroller. Two people stopped in with strollers and no employee ever told them they couldnt come in! If you want to have coffee with your friend too, its a nice meet up area. The Baristas and Cashier are very friendly. As I was walking out the Barista came over to clear our table and told me "have a good day", even if they didnt actually mean it, it still brings back customers.

I am an out of town visitor and stopped by this Cafe for a quick beverage. The atmosphere was pretty typical for a coffee shop, maybe slightly fancier than average. It seemed fairly popular for a Saturday morning, but not crowded. I normally dont go for sweet beverages, but I decided try a 16 oz. vanilla bean latte with an extra shot. I was very pleasantly surprised. The beverage was not overpoweringly sweet and had a nice, smooth flavor. At other Cafes, this type of beverage would traditionally be a "sugar bomb" topped with whipped cream. I also ordered a muffin-like pastry with berries and frosting. The flavor wasnt particularly remarkable (met expectations), but was more buttery than expected. The outside had a slightly greasy feel. Im not a huge fan of butter, but it didnt really bother me enough to not finish it. Service was adequate considering the customer load. Overall, I would highly recommend visiting this coffee shop!

I love going to this place. The quality of the coffee is excellent, and the service is always excellent too. Since they make all their coffee with pour overs, you should not show up hoping to grab a quick cup of Joe and leave, except in the morning when they keep drip coffee out and you can just drop your money in a can and go! All in all I find this the epitome of an awesome neighborhood coffee shop and roaster.

Best espresso in town, friendly knowledgeable staff--no more than you would expect from a local coffee shop, but still--and more than fair prices. Its a bit small and so not as great a place to go and sit or have a meeting as say, Anodyne on W Bruce Street, but I wouldnt describe it as cramped, either. The espresso, in particular, I would say it just a little better.

The staff is incredibly engaging and kind!! Always a pleasant experience. Early on I became an ice coffee drinker because other companies serve it so hot it burns my mouth or you have to wait an eternity for it to cool off. However, Valentines actually serves hot coffee at the PERFECT temperature. Still a cold brew fan but glad to see coffee done right. Keep it up

I am a Brazilian living in Chicago. I came upon this place while exploring the Milwaukee area with my family. I had the chance to speak with the owner who was there roasting some coffee. His passion for the business is very inspiring. The staff is very well prepared and welcoming. A perfect cup of coffee top up an excellent experience. Well done folks!

Im addicted to their cold brew! Consistently fresh and perfectly roasted, you can tell they really care about the quality that coffee should be. Its never bitter or burnt, perfect drinks every time I come- from espresso to pour over. The staff is always friendly & smiling. Love their fresh beans to take home too! Highly recommend the Costa Rica :)

I take my walk down to Valentine Coffee once a week to get my iced coffee, very nice people there all the time. But I enjoy Valentine Coffee the best at Tosa Market in the summer very friendly people all the time plus the owner is an outstanding person. Miss see him on Saturday we would talk about the Brewers all the time. But Good Luck to him.

I really like this place. Ive been to 50+ coffee shops across the country and this is in that upper echelon. The coffee is very good they focus on medium roasts (the middle of the bell curve of light to dark) and they have a large number of coffee offerings. The only drawback is the shop was loud...impossible to have a phone conversation.

These guys are coffee nerds. Had it for the first time at the Domes farmers market and I had to have more. Weve got plenty of beer microbreweries here, but this place is the coffee brewery that Ill come back to. Oh and did I mention that the coffee is amazing? Im a sucker for single pour.

Great locally brewed coffee. This is the only coffee that Ive been buying to brew at home for a while. Really nice local "working class" vibe without the MacBook dbags found at Starbucks. People do work on laptops here but will usually acknowledge you when you pass by.

Been here a few times. Always friendly service. Nice modern space with lots of light. Had a tasty almond horn on one visit. But in the end, always a delicious beverage. Lattes, iced tea, and right now this cold brew is giving me life.
