My friend and I made appointments (for today) back to back three weeks ago with Patrick. They were supposed to open at 12, but didnt get there until after 12:30--and Patrick was a no-show. While we were sitting there waiting, we overheard that the tattoo artist had been out drinking and left his phone behind the bar--meaning it was probably better to NOT have him tattoo us anyway. The person behind the counter told us that they would give us a call back if Patrick showed up or they would try to fit us in later in the day. We called back twice over the course of the afternoon. The first time, we were told that the earliest they could fit us in was 7:30. When we called before leaving for the 7:30 slot just to confirm, they told us they wouldnt be able to fit us in until MAYBE Monday. We found it to be unprofessional, as it was their fault in the first place, that they didnt make a greater effort to fit us in this weekend. Its understandable that they were busy, but not understandable that they didnt make a greater effort to fix their mistake. We are taking our business to Painless Tattoo instead, as they made time for us tonight when we explained the situation.

My wife and I walked in here about 4 months ago looking for a local shop to get our next few pieces (or more) done. We noticed how clean and trendy the interior appeared and were both quite impressed by the books of artwork at the store front. We stood at that counter for at least 20 minutes before anyone took a break from their conversation with a female patron about the scientific nature of random sexual encounters, to even acknowledge our presence. I got the distinct impression I was bothering the gentleman by asking questions about setting up an appointment and the feasibility of the tattoos. He generally wasnt sure about anything and said Id have to talk to the other artist there, but then emphasized (multiple times) that artist is working on a $100/hr tattoo right now and is NOT taking a break anytime soon. He didnt seem interested in even setting up a future appointment. All in all, a very awkward, disconcerting, less than professional experience, leaving us looking for a different shop.

I had gotten a cartalage piercing on my ear and it never healed right. I went back a month later and he said everything was fine with it and it might just have a little infection. It has been 8 months now and it still is oozing and crusty and painful. I went and got it looked at by a different piercer at a different place and he had said that my cartalage was pushed out of my ear causing it to form a nasty scar and build up and he told me my ear was perminately scarred and damaged and if the person who had pierced it had noticed this right away it could have easily been fixed but now i have to deal with a painful crusty ear. He also said that the jewelry that was used should have been a flat back instead of a ball back because it causes more stress on the ear when sleeping. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone because now my body is perminately damaged and i am dealing with a painful and inflamed ear every day.

Was recommended this place by a friend so i made an appointment a head of time. Walked in for my appointment and even though i was the only customer in the place i stood there at the counter for like 20 minutes before anybody even asked me if i needed help with anything. After i told the guy i was there for my appointment i waited almost an hour and a half for him to "set up" his work area. That didnt even include the time it took to draw up my design, that took an additional 40 minutes. So, by the time i was in the chair and the tattoo was starting, it was roughly 2 and a half hours after i walked in the shop, and i was exactly on time for my appointment. However i will say, the tattoo turned out great and is the best one i have so far. So, bottom line, really top notch work, terrible customer service.

I should of looked around first before getting my tattoo done here. First I was there for like 15 minutes before anyone even said anything to me. Then when someone finally came up to me they made it seem like I was bothering them like it was a hassle. Apparently they are used to having no one come in? I ended up getting a tattoo WHICH WAS NOTHING LIKE I WANTeD. They guy was just telling me what he wanted to do and made me feel like my ideas were stupid. I didnt feel comfortable saying anything about what I didnt like that werent in my original plan, whenever I would stop him he would kinda laugh. I will be looking for another shop 2 fix up this work and make it how I wanted. It sucks that I will be paying so much and going through this crap to have it done right.

I dont recommend this place. I called to ask how old one had to be to get their ears pierced there, and the person on the phone told me the age was sixteen. I then went there, and, after dealing with a relatively unintelligible clerk, spoke to the piercer, who told me he could do my ears in 45 minutes. I return 45 minutes later, and, while filling out paperwork, I notice that the age cited is eighteen (and I am seventeen). I inquire, and he tells me that it is actually eighteen, and, as I try to explain to him that the person on the phone told me sixteen, he gets incredibly angry and yells at me that he "is telling me in plain English." He was absolutely rude and disrespectful, and if you want to be around nice people, dont go here.

I have two tattoos out of black pearl simply because of the fact that I was younger at the time and didnt know the difference between a place like this, and a quality shop. Mind you, I have seen some good stuff come out of here, and thats why I gave it two stars instead of one. Personal experience though I would have given it one star. Staff always seems disinterested with you, and you kind of feel judged as soon as you walk in the door. I was getting a tattoo that had a lot of meaning behind it for me and the guy pretty much looked at me like I was weird when I handed him the picture.

I recently walked into the Black Pearl and this was the worst case of discrimination I have ever encountered in my life. For a young African American walking in and cant even receive notice. Young Caucasian woman walked in and got help. Then another young Caucasian couple walked in and IMMEDIATELY was asked "Hey can I help you." While I sat there un-noticeable. I sat there for over an hour, and two of the artist seen me...and never said a word. And all I wanted was to ask a question...I never want to get in contact with this place ever again.

Ive spent many hours at the shop with Greg. The environment is professional and clean..a tattoo shop you can instantly trust. The work that Greg does is phenomenal and hes quickly become the only artist I want to be tattooed by. The artists at the shop are extremely accommodating and take interest in the work they are doing. I wont have to look any farther than Black Pearl for my future tattoos.
