When I first started coming here I wasnt sure about the coffee. It was good mind you. It was just a bit different than other roasters and vastly different than that chain based in Seattle. I find myself craving that difference and missing it when Im forced elsewhere. I come nearly every day now. Im hooked, almost addicted actually. They roast their own coffee and when theyre roasting stopping by is a must. The smell is incredible. Admittedly Im a bit of a coffee snob now because Ive been spoiled here so. The service is done well. The staff is friendly, efficient, and they know their customers. They are half the reason their very loyal customers keep coming. There is no drive through and you cant get breakfast or anything to eat for that matter. At times the line can be a bit long. But theyre long for a reason folks. Its very good. I like my simple drip coffee here and I get my beans by the half pound. Good stuff!! Definitely give this place a try.

Let me preface this with I used to roast, I am coffee connoisseur, but I am a caffeine junkie; which means at times Ill drink hotel coffee but only if it is palatable. Ill palate some pretty low quality coffees to prevent my caffeine headaches and because of this I have only tossed out a few cups of joe. After visiting Vahalla I poured out my drink on the streets of Tacoma, popped some motrin to help with the inevitable headache, and drove away. If you are used to coffee from roasters who can at least compete with Folgers of all things and dont flock to one of these places because "they roast their own coffee" then stay away. This stuff was not palatable. Maybe it was an off day, maybe their grind was hard to get just right that day, but on the day I went I literally stopped my car and poured out the coffee. Sorry, not good.

If you want a no-frills cup of coffee or if you want a good latte, this is the best place to go in Tacoma. I typically order a vanilla latte. If you want fancy flavors go a few blocks to the Metronome, but Valhalla has the best beans and the best coffee. Very friendly service, quality merchandise, and if you come at the right time you can even watch them work the bean roaster. Drinks are fast, good, and consistent. Tips: Iced drinks are only served during the hotter months. Not the greatest hang out spot since seating is limited to small parties and it can get pretty loud and crowded at times; that being said the employees are efficient and will get you out of there with a smile on your face as fast as is possible for coffee of this quality.

I always tell people that this is the best coffee I have ever had in my life and I miss having easy access to it every day. When I lived within walking distance, this is the only place I would get my coffee beans, and I loved to treat myself to an americano whenever I was in there. The employees were always wonderful and ready to answer any questions, and I loved talking about the roasting process with the owner a few times. There really isnt much room for sitting inside (although its been a few years since I was there), but I always drank my coffee as I walked home.

Best coffee in town hands down. The opposite of a lot of the new "3rd wave" spots who seem to barely roast the coffee and serve those bitter, sour beans that the kids apparently want these days (like Stumptown and every other new roaster). Valhalla is full bodied and delicious. If you order an 8oz latte they call that a cappuchino. They dont have drip and the americano is better than the pour over so get that. There are no snacks, just coffee. I wish there were snacks.

I already drank multiple shots of espresso to pick out roasts I wanted to bring back home, so I was already too caffeinated to drink any more. I still wanted to buy a few more bags of beans to bring back home here but each roast had no descriptions to go along with them and the staff only recommended one particular roast for me, even though I expressed that I wanted to purchase multiple bags. I ended up buying only one.

The customers were very friendly, but the batista that helped me had a snooty attitude. I was definitely overcharged for my cold watered down pour over. I asked for a tall drip with a splash of soy which cost 3.75. What! It took forever because apparently they dont serve regular drip they do pour overs. Im sure I could have gotten an Americano for cheaper with way more flavor in less time. Not a good experience today.

Definitely the best cold brew Ive ever had. The barista who I spoke to said that she makes it herself. The cold brew was perfectly balanced and brought out the fruity notes of the coffee. Im usually one to put just a tiny splash of milk in my coffee, but I felt no need to modify this amazing flavor. Definitely someplace to stop by if youre looking for good cold brew!

Great coffee through and through. I may even be as bold as to say this is the best coffee I have had in the greater Seattle-Tacoma area. It has everything you are looking for in a top tier coffee shop. They have mastered their personal flavors and aromas and present them on an artful and crafty way. Definitely check this spot out if you are in the Tacoma area!

Far from heavenly...My cappuccino was pretty good (nice foam art but not enough microfoam in the rest of the drink). The physical space, though, will prevent me from coming back. The uncomfortable stools (no chairs!), cheap, sharp-edged tables, and ambient LOUDNESS (inane barista conversations + music + roaster) combine for an unpleasant experience.

Best coffee in the South Sound. Period. The staff is always incredibly friendly and extremely helpful. I go so much these days they tend to remember my drink before I even order it. The way it should be. Its very small on the inside and does tend to get busy at times. Wait times are never usually a problem. Service is very quick.

I just bought a bag of Valhalla coffee beans (espresso blend) from the metropolitan market in Kirkland. Preparing for my new french press, boy was i impressed with their quality coffee. The taste was excellent, just the flavor Ive been looking for. Thank you, Valhalla. Keep it up! Cris

Valhalla just opened their new cafe on Sixth Ave and they serve hands down the best coffee in Tacoma. They roast their coffee on site -- the roaster is right in the cafe. Whether you buy a mocha or a pound of beans, this is the freshest, most delicious coffee around.

This place is exceptionally popular in Tacoma, unfortunately the espresso is not properly poured, giving it an extremely bitter, burnt overly acidic. If you go here, go for the drip, the cozy atmosphere, the good people. But do not buy the espresso.

You could get caffeinated just on the smell of this place alone. They roast their own beans and damn does it make a difference. The staff knows how to make real coffee. Not the Starbucks abomination that have brainwashed the nation.
