My wife and I put a custom order in for a couch at this furniture store. Being young (in our 20s), we were initially met by a 50ish taller woman who treated us with an air of annoyance, as though we were wasting her precious time. Considering the amount of our purchase ($5,000), and the relatively empty showroom, we did not think asking a few questions and discussing our options for this custom order was too much dilly-dallying. We were advised that the order would take up to three months to arrive. The week before the three month mark, I called to ask for an update on whether the item had shipped from the factory or not. I was told it had shipped two weeks earlier from within the United States and that it could be expected on time. Two weeks later, I went in to the store and made a final payment. I was on my cell phone when I entered and another male sales person stalked me around the store, passing me as I sat on the phone finishing a work-related call and interrupted me asking me if I needed any help. I actually heard him tell another employee "well, hes on the phone over there..." Not sure why he cared when the phone call took no more than five minutes in the store. As I made the payment, the woman who "helped" me told me she could tell me nothing about the shipping status. I find this difficult to believe given that Harkness has taken a wild leap into the latter 20th century and has their records computerized. At 3:45 in the afternoon, apparently, their "warehouse" was closed. Asking who could help, another woman walked in and told me the couch would be two weeks late, without apology or explanation. The one saving grace (which is why I gave two stars vs. one) is that this woman, who could magically read a computer screen, told me she would reserve a delivery date for me in advance so I wouldnt be put at the end of the line once our custom order finally arrived. In sum, Harkness sales people are rude and do not seem grateful for your business. They patronize you, and make it seem like theyre doing you a favor to provide you with basic customer service. Harkness is apparently a family business. I dont think their family formula for success is still being utilized. I do not see this business lasting if they continue on this course. I will advise everyone I know in the community to steer clear of this place unless they want to be treated like they are annoying Harkness employees with their business.

We waited to go to Harkness on a sale day and received a big chunk of change off the price of all the furniture we bought. We had the best time picking out furniture here. Ive been there before and never purchased anything, but they were always very nice anyway and THAT is why I went back. Keith was the man who helped us and he was exquisite! I told him what I was looking for and how much I was able to spend. He took me to several places around the HUGE 3 story store, and then left me alone with my friend to talk about it~~and he always came back in the right amount of time. The service was exceptional. Thank you Keith! As far as the furniture, the sofa seats do not come off (but the back cushions do!) which bothers me a great deal and the recliner makes this loud clunky springy noise when it closes. Sadly, things are made cheaply all over now, unless you spend thousands to get what you really wish for. I am tempted to say something but not sure anything can be done about my complaints. The store also provided a self serve coffee stand with really OMG, nummy, yummy, chocolate chip cookies, popcorn, and a TV set on a decorating channel to sit and watch while I tried not to panic over how much I was contemplating how much I was about to spend. Noel and Corey, the delivery guys were also out of this world polite and gracious. What a really great group of people that work at Harkness. Even the ladies behind the table working took the time to be friendly. I like this place . . . think well go back for some tables and chairs on the next sale! I give a 5 star for service and a 4 for quality of furniture. All in all were happy happy happy! Now all they need there is a latte maker! You made this shopping experience really great. Thank you.

Harkness is a huge family owned Christian furniture store. Upstairs, main floor, basement and a separate matress showroom. I wasnt sure what kind of couch and recliner I wanted. Cathy was very patient and showed me some different styles. Finally narrowed my search down and she didnt hesitate to walk downstairs and all the way across the store a couple times to get the books and material selections for the couch and recliner I finally chose. While waiting for the furniture to be delivered I came back to look at end tables. I found a set that matched two of a different brand that I had bought from another store. I only wanted to buy one of the tables and Cathy went upstairs to find out if they could split the pair. Came back downstairs with the good news that I could buy one of the tables. I was only able to pay part of the money up front. They called when the furniture arrived at the store and I paid the balance over the phone and the lady mailed me the receipt. The delivery guys had a challenging schedule on my delivery day and did run a little late. But they were very nice and were able to quickly assemble the recliner couch and recliner.

We looked for livingroom furniture for about 6 months at other stores before we found exactly what we wanted at Harkness. Keith is a great salesman, not pushy at all and is very knowledgeable and helpful. We got a great deal on it and 6 months no interest. So, naturally, when it was time to look for a new dining room table and chairs, we again went to Harkness and found Keith again. I showed him what I wanted, and he took me right to it. He again checked on the availability and price of extra chairs. This time, 4 years no interest!! Plus he gave me a great deal on the extra chairs. New table and chairs delivered this morning! Very professional delivery guys. Extremely careful getting it in the house and set up. Made sure everything was correct before asking me to sign for it. If you need new furniture, Harkness is the place to go.

I cant say enough good about this company. I love that its a ma and pa store that is still family owned. After having a HORRIBLE experience at Ashley furniture I stumbled across Harkness and boy am I glad that I did. Cathy was very helpful. They delivered exactly when they said they were going to and they were quick, clean and professional. The furniture that they have is very nice quality. Yes, you will pay a little more, but 1. you are supporting a family business and 2. you are getting better quality. I still have more furniture to buy and I will make sure I return to them. No one else is getting my business around here. :)
