I absolutely LOVE going here!! The owner is a very sweet and friendly woman and speaks (at least) three languages: English, Korean and Japanese. The shop sells a lot of Japanese/Asian snacks and some staple food items like soy sauce and microwave rice and ramen. The variety of snacks is a LOT!!!!!! They sell stuff like Pocky and Ramune, but they also sell snacks that Ive really enjoyed in my childhood. The tea stuff they sell, like cups and the actual tea--its SO worth it. The mug I have? I used it all the time. The green tea I bought? WORTH IT!!! It tastes so good. Every time I come into the store, I feel really compelled to buy *everything.* They sell little knickknacks too, like tea containers (I wish I had bought some, still--Next time!!) and little charms and origami paper. The store itself is kind of small, but its jam-packed with all sorts of stuff; it feels a bit like a Miyazaki movie, going into the store, really. Like Ive said before, the owner is absolutely sweet and remembers faces very well! We laugh and joke whenever we can. She has such a welcoming and friendly air! Honestly, sometimes I go to Carytown JUST for her and her store.

Wonderful Market!!! If you live in Richmond or in the Near WestEnd, come here before you go out to Tan-A, (they are pretty much rude). Found few items I needed and I also received very warm and friendly assistance. Owner stayed open extra 10 minutes just so I could make it there minutes after closing. It was a Saturday too! Cant wait to return and by some more goods and goodies! If I can put in a special request and promise to purchase all of them if they dont fly out before the month: Mochi ice cream Bon-Bons: Red Bean and another flavor either Green Tea, Mango, Strawberry or Chocolate, maybe Black Sesame...if you think its a winner, Ill give it a try! Thanks again and see you soon! -Melissa 1700 Block of Grove Avenue

Im a half Japanese American who lives right here in Richmond and I have to say I love this place. I go around trying to find many "so called" Japanese Markets but I have never come across anything as good as this. Although the Shop may be a little small, everything in there came right out of Japan. I can say this from my 13 years of going back and forth from Japan. The owner is really nice and funny too. Its sometimes just fun walking in and talking with her. The price is very reasonable and is in a very nice location. I HIGHLY suggest you taking a visit and buying one of their little sweets.

I was looking for a place just like this I am completely satisfied! The lady there was really nice and very friendly. They have lots of quality items in it for such a small store they have umbrellas, bowls, spoons, rice cookers, cups, come here if you want some awesome kitchen supplies. They also have candy, and lots of other fun things. I wish I lived in the area so I could become a regular that store would become my 7-11 even though they have one in that area, I love this store.

A little overpriced, but worth it to fill your cravings, and understandable given the shipping. I lived in Japan for several years and this shop is my go to for niche items that I miss My favorite is that they have melon bread, which is something I thought Id never see in the US. The owner can come off as a bit abrasive, but thats just her sense of humor. Shes really quite nice and will go out of her way to make sure you find everything you want.

I love the shop, but the lady behind the counter told me that because Im not Japanese that I wont understand things in the store...I asked if a bowl textured on the bottom so the sauces can get air-rated while mixing it ...my question wasnt especially ignorant. If anything the lady should be proud to explain her culture to anyone who wants to learn about the culture. I will give the store 5 stars but the attitude seriously can hurt the business.

Splendid place to get great and varied Japanese instant noodles, sodas (theres a whole rainbow of Ramune), snacks, and essentials. Sadly, the store is very, very cramped due to the small size of the lot itself and the overstuffed shelves. Youll likely end up knocking over a thing or two just trying to get to the freezer in the back. Its a good shop, be sure to grab some dango from the cooler near the register!

This place is absolutely amazing. The owner is so friendly and funny and I make sure to stop by here a couple times a month and stock up on Japanese sweets. Even if you arent sure what to get, the owner will be happy to help you! Its a small hole in the wall right past the Byrd theater and its an incredible little store to stop by.

This place is amazing, they have a large variety of Japanese food and other stuff. Ive bought lots of various ramen and ingredients for classic Japanese dishes Ive never been able to make without access to these ingredients. Long story short, its a wonderful place, its small and quaint with a great selection!

I am a native from Tokyo Japan and this market may be small, but everything is legit... I see a lot of fake Japanese restaurants selling non-Japanese food... but this Tokyo Market has real products from Japan and not imitation products from other countries... They even have different kinds of natto... :-)

Absolutely wonderful. Wanted to make sushi. Found this place looked around for a bit just to explore. Talked to the nice lady who ran the place and she took me around the whole store finding everything I needed. Great quality items and even better prices. Will be visiting this store OFTEN!

I love this shop and the owner is always nice to me when I walk in. There is a great selection and it is very clean. I love coming in and getting all of the Japanese food that my mom cooked for me as a child. Would 100% recommend! Visit Tokyo Market!

Tiny little store so youre not getting a huge variety of goods. The owner is charming and nice. She carries a variety of snacks and foodstuffs as well as cooking hardware from Japan. Check the expiration date before you buy.

Ive known the owner since I was a kid. She is very nice, thoughtful, and friendly. This is out of the area for me, but when I am in town, I drop by, cause there is a void where this store used to be in Hampton Roads...

My fathers family is Japanese and I shop here to get all the snacks that my grandmother used to give me when I was a kid. The lady that runs the place is very nice and all of their prices are very reasonable.

Great hidden gem in the Richmond, VA. Dont let the fast food decor deter you. The food is delicious. Made with fresh ingredients, it makes for a fast, healthy meal. Perfect for after the gym.
