I went into Hometown Computers not long ago and was immediately greeted by very friendly and optimist customer service, telling me they could save all my data on my hard drive for a nominal fee. They informed me that they would call me the next day for a complete estimation. I did not receive a call ever until three days later, i called them and they said it would be ready tomorrow. I went in the next day to pick up my laptop and they had installed a 60 GB hard drive in my laptop without any consultation when i had brought them a 160 GB hard drive. They charged me almost 50 dollars to retrieve my data which they were so optimistic about and literally saved less than 1 GB. My bill was $120 which i could not even pay them because their credit card machine was down. They told me to come back in two days. When i came back to pay and pick up my laptop for the 2nd time, their machine was still down, and i had to make two transactions at $2.50 a piece at the ATM machine in order to pay them. Their cashier apparently had no key to the register and was not able to give me change, so i received a $5 discount minus the $5 ATM fees, which is the only reason i would give them 1 star. Upon closer inspection of the much smaller drive they installed into my computer, with no consultation mind you, I found HUNDREDS UPON HUNDREDS OF SOMEONE ELSES HARDCORE PORNOGRAPHY. Do not sell these people your old drives as they will do a very minimal wipe and the next owner will potentially have something more important of yours. Cannot stress enough...FRAUDULENT!

DEATH- first of all, please read my entire review before commenting on it. HOMETOWN computers only charged me between 60 and 80 bucks to remove what i had going on with my computer!! You talkn about sumone on craigslist!! HAHAHAHA...what a rip off. I went thru 4 different people on craigslist before going to hometown. the people on craigslist tried to fix it and when i get my computer home, it was worst off then what it was before i gave it to them. I also called stores all over hampton roads and i was gettn prices over 100 and sumn dollars even all the way to 300. Whether their stuff is fake or not, it worked and i havent had anymore problems with my computer. Just becuz you had a bad experience there doesnt mean we all have bad experiences there. they have never tried to take advantage of me or over price me. I have an uncle who lives in California who fixes computers for a living..and told me that that is a great price becuz he himself charges alot more in california. im pretty sure there are others that are lot cheaper but being that i am an online student, i dont have time to be searching all over the places becuz i have classes and homework that needs to be done. SO ONCE AGAIN!! thank u hometown computers...

I have just got done buying another computer at Hometown and was getting on here to write a raving review since Joe was as usual helpful and willing to work with in my recession budget. I have always found that in dealing with retail people(especially high tech) they tend to speak above my head and look at you like an idiot when you have no clue what they are saying, so I have been very pleased with Joe taking the time to make sure I understand what is necessary for my needs. The price is always great compared to bigger places I have looked even online. Thanks crew at hometown!! Side note to hotjetskier I think that shopping on Christmas Eve was probably your problem. Several places I went to had credit card problems that day and what retail outlet wasnt at whits end trying to deal with crazy last minute shoppers. Several movies had been made with the theme shopping late on Christmas for a reason!! If I was you I would go back again and try on a normal day. Well God bless!

The worst experience ever!! It took JOE 3 months to completely destroy my computer. I orginally had a port issue, no problem said Joe it should take 2-3 days & less than $40. Oh great, so I thought. To good to be true. 3 weeks later, I called repeatedly, no call back, when I went to pick up week 4, port was repaired.yeah right, Joe tells me the price is $140 part was shipped from Japan. OK why is my computer slow, you know what I will clean up your system, at no charge for your patience. Oh really how long will that take only a couple of days. I shouldve known better.4 weeks later I get my computer, all information gone. They tried to put Dell on my Sony. I have nothing no windows,no internet. Nothing!! I go back to Joe he refuses to correct the problem, tells me to sue him Wow!! Customer service. Take advantage of people, overcharge, destroy their property, call the police on them, deny any wrong. Pay back is a mother. You will reap what you sow.
