I have been a Unique shopper for quite some time now. I have noticed how poor the quality of service has gotten over the years. Today, was the last straw. If you have been to Unique you are aware of the overall attempt at organization at the store. On the day where they have 50% off all items, which is normally on holidays, the store is very unorganized. My experience today will never take me back to Unique again. If you dont know, if an item(any item) has no price tag or one visibly written on the item you wish to purchase, you are out of luck. They do not take the item & price it for you, which would take no time at all. That policy I have come to understand, but still see no significance for it. Now, today what happened was I had already been walking around for over an hour searching for clothing for my children. I found a maroon Under Armor, shirt sized M, for my son. The price on it was $12. Even for a used item, it seemed a bit much for me, but I felt it was reasonable with the 50%. I would have paid $6 for it. No problem! I am getting rung up & begin to have a talk with the cashier who is obviously not happy working for that company. She begins to tell me that Unique goes through owners on a yearly basis, the employees get little or no breaks, the usual gripes at a place like that I can only assume. She tells me that alot of the things are overpriced because the owners feel that it will bring more people in causing them to spend more, etc....I am listening to her & agreed. I told her that Im sure alot of things are overpriced(which they are!) then I show her the shirt(under armor) and tell her "I dont mind paying for something like this, even though it is overpriced" She looks at it & says, "Oh, I know...hold on" and proceeds to call over a supervisor? Didnt know why....but then, the supervisor appears & speaks with the cashier & walks away with the shirt. Excuse me? Where is she going with the shirt I ask....Oh, she wont come back, says the cashier. What?? Well, I go to the lady who appears to be speaking to the manager on duty. I ask her if there is a problem with the shirt, she says she cant sell it because it has the wrong tag. I ask how so, if it is clearly marked. She completely ignores me & begins to walk away. I ask her to stop & please explain why they cant just re-tag the item to sell. She wouldnt answer & the supervisor rose his voice & said, "That is our policy, it has a wrong tag not from our store." Ive been to Unique so many times, it was clearly a tag from the store. I was so irritated at this point that I said, the truth is you want to take it back to re-tag it with a higher price to sell. It has a tag from your store, sir. He tells me that any "professional" can tag a price...I believe he thought I re-tagged the shirt with a price I thought was acceptable, as if.... They proceeded to both walk away saying that was that, basically I had to accept it. I dont. It is unfair & if I may say so, fraud. You have employees saying as much. There has to be a way to do something. I for one plan on never stepping foot in there again. Unless there are drastic changes to that place, but will it really ever happen? I just ask that people read this & not be fooled by the prices in that place. Yes, you can get a deal but is the price really worth it? There are so many things wrong with that place that this one subject is where I wanted to begin....please share. Thanks for reading my rant :)

Today I decided to make going to the Unique Thrift Store a part of my adventure of treasure hunting. So, i decided to look them up on line to get the address and when I did, I bumped into several negative reviews that I found quite troubling. So, I decided to call the store and speak to the store manager about the reviews and to get a better understanding of their store policy. At the same time I was measuring their customer service skills by the way they handled me over the phone. I love thrift store shopping, and I also love being treated with dignity and respect. As a matter of fact I require it. I spoke to Joe, the store manager and i actually read these reviews to him. I found that Joe had excellent listening skills, a true mark of great customer service. Joe also took out the time to explain policy to me, its reason, and was, inturn, receptive of a few suggestions I gave him that would make the relationship between the store and its customers more amicable, considerate, and pleasant. He assured me that I would be treated very nice should I come to the store. I felt good about that and so I am off to the Unique Thrift Store. I feel confident that my experience will be surprisingly pleasant. I at least know one thing for sure and that is that Joe is a very good store manager and if I have any problem at all he will take out the time to listen to me and may be willing to work through the issue. I will be back to write another review after I have actually gone through the experience of shopping at Unique. Hats off to you "Joe".

This is a large "thrift" store. Its more of a used item store than a thrift store. "Well, thats what a thrift store is silly." Yea, but at a thrift store the prices are nearly rummage sale. The prices at Unique are quite ridiculous sometimes. You have to keep in mind that all the items there were DONATED. So its kind of a racket going on here. For example, I almost bought a 13x9 pyrex here until I saw the price, $14. A brand new pyrex from Target is $11. So either its some kind of racket, or whomever is pricing these items has no idea what the item is actually worth. Another example: Ive seen glasses sold on their drinking glass aisle that were $2.99. Guess where else of seen those exact glasses... The dollar store. Now, because im not trying to be a complete A**, there are some good things that this store offers. Such as a half off day and a Senior citizen discount with club card holders. This store is technically Non-profit for the Special Olympics charity. Its a great local place to drop off items that could be used by someone else as opposed to just throwing them out. And believe it or not, you can find some gems here for cheaper than they are worth(again im sure pricing has no idea the worth of items) but it is a luck of the draw, as most items here are over priced.

Although you can get tax receipts for donating here, it is a for-profit store I guess the VFW charity gets some money from reselling the items to Unique, but it is not anywhere near the total amount you pay. If you are donating, research other charity thrift stores in the area and find one where you know the charity really benefits and the mission is something you believe in. Some of the stuff they sell is about the same prices you would find them when new. Id also try to wear stuff that somehow will let you try on clothes. A friend wears full skirts, and try on pants over them. Tank top and bicycle shorts or leggings are another possibiity. I always figured the reason the clothes smelled was because of mothballs. Who knows what the real reason is. I went there yesterday looking for old-fashioned corded phones but they only had a few. And not at great prices. Also, if you see something you might want, dont rely on it being there in a day or two. I went back to buy the phone Id looked at but it was no longer there. Nor was the purse I liked. Try going there on a Friday night or first thing Saturday morning so that it doesnt all get picked over. I think Tuesdays are their discount days? Alice
