My wife and I came here while on vacation after attending a Polo match at King Family Vineyards. We love coffee and thought, "wow what a cute local coffee shop, lets give it a try." They were nice and friendly but my wifes iced americano was bland and my espresso shot was the most sour shot Ive ever had! Sour shots come from either the temp being too low, the grind is too course or the shot was to short. The temp and shot volume seemed fine so maybe the grind was off? We make our own coffees at home and I dont think Ive ever made a shot this sour even when I was first learning! I always say Ill try any place twice. Once to see if I dont like it and a second time to make sure. However I would go here again but with strong reservations. Perhaps the barista was new or having a bad day??

Good coffee, fun shop. We came at the height of busy on a Saturday afternoon, so we did have a decent wait in a crowded store. However, the staff were composed and kept things moving. I had a drip coffee, which was very tasty. A little bit of a cocoa aftertaste, which I enjoyed. My daughter got an iced mocha which was delicious; a good balance of cocoa and sweet. And my wife got an iced chai with soy. Nothing special about it, but still good. They only have soy and hemp alternatives if you dont drink dairy, no almond. Clearly this is a popular spot with the college folks too; almost every sitting customer had their laptop and text book. I wouldnt hesitate to go back, but might look for another nearby spot if it was too busy.

I"m sure they have to keep their prices high to stay viable on the downtown mall, but I paid nearly $7 for a tiny "nitro" cold brew that tasted like weak coffee water. The lady that took my order wasnt friendly at all and when I asked if they could make a sweet cream cold brew (which I know is a Starbucks thing but thats why I asked) she bluntly responded, "Uh, what?" When I described it to her (it was obviously something they could make pretty easily, its just vanilla pumps with heavy cream) she again, bluntly told me, "You can put the cream in yourself." I work as a barista so I know how to handle customer questions/requests and thats not how its done. Just generally unfriendly and overpriced for the quality.

Honestly, Im very picky with coffee. I went in and was impressed with the ambiance right away. Very hip and smelled like coffee heaven. Unfortunately, like most coffee places, the employees were just kinda chilling out looking for things to do behind the counter as opposed to engaging us. Are I offered a black coffee, they handed me a cup and left me to find the percolator ten feet away. The roast of the day was a house Sumatra blend. It was dry and a little sharp. They also didnt have cup sleeves so I was burning my hand. Haha thankfully one of the baristas offered me another cup so I could leave their shop unscathed.

I was very satisfied. The coffee roasts are on point, light to medium. Some places that offer pour overs dont do so hot at going the process correctly, but not this place. Two days and two baristas later, they took their time, let the coffee bloom and made me a perfect cup. Thanks baristas! I also got a shot of espresso which was extremely bright and juicy, another delight on my visit. The pastries looked creative and the staff were very helpful and were not pretentious, which can be hard to find in craft coffee shop. Great work folks, thanks for giving me a place to go on my Virginia travels!

This place is exceptional. The scene is an interesting mix of rustic/vintage urban and pretention. The coffee is consistently on point. The baristas and friendly and pull thought provoking espresso shots. Bonus points for the selection of Chemex and V60 brewers and supplies. Theres also a siphon pot if thats what youre into. As far as the internet is concerned, I normally pull between 100 and 200 Mbps. The numbers speak for themselves.

This is a great little coffee shop. The coffee is good, and the staff is very friendly and helpful, whether youre a local or youre from out of town. Since theyre a short walk from the OMNI, make a little time to stop by at the start of your day; Ive enjoyed sitting outside and drinking a pour-over during my visit to Charlottesville. Ill make it a priority to stop in again next time Im in town.

The Mudhouse features an eclectic atmosphere, local art, and the best coffee in the Charlottesville area. Not burned tasting like another local coffeeshop or mass produced like MoreBucks. Be sure to tip the baristas - they are a class act and cant work at Mudhouse without passing the shops stringent standards. Friendly and top quality! Seattle should be jealous!

Speaking of their coffee alone, l have no reason to speak poorly of this place. Unfortunately, I have just returned to this place to discover that their decor has been changed to entirely consist of pictures of naked women. Its pretty in your face and I imagine the motivation is to be edgy, but I find it in poor taste and frankly demeaning to women.

Cozy atmosphere, nice staff, really cool art on the walls when I went. They give refills for pocket change (.50 for a small, a couple cents more as the size goes up). Only wish there was a little more room for seating, its a nice place to read/work so it seemed a little crowded when I went. Overall good coffee at a decent price.

Excellent atmosphere, ample seating, strong and fast wifi. Slightly pricey ($3 for a large coffee post tax, about 20% more than Starbucks), but not terrible. The drip coffee is unique; flavored with honey, lemon, plums, and/or oranges. Not a bad thing, just different compared to other coffee houses Ive been to.

Madhouse used to sell excellent coffee, and the baristos were very competent. After several years I re-visited the Madhouse. The coffee was sour, and the young lady barista who pulled my shot picked the demi-tasse up with her little fingers on the inside of the cups rim (minus 2 stars for the lack of hygiene).

Excellent coffee house. Great music for conversation or getting lost in your work. Nice outside patio when its nice and a couple of covered spots when its drizzling. Ive grown to love the coffee. Its a light roast and might take some getting used to if you havent had it before.

Relaxed. Quiet. Calming. Summer or winter people are here. A mix of residents, mall walkers and a few University students. Those sugary treats to the right of the register are all very good also. Important: caffeine based persons can get coffee morning to late evening (10pm).

I love this place! Admittedly, I have only ever gotten one thing: The Monkey. Maybe I should try branching out, but its so darn good, I cant ever seem to do it. The atmosphere is cool. There is usually a line, and its a bit difficult to navigate and find a seat.

Messed up on my girlfriends order, my drink was way too sweet, and they took a long time. I know they have to grind and hand press the espresso and all that jazz, but so does my regular coffee shop and my regular coffee shop doesnt take that long.
