This review is from a tourist perspective. The great experience about this Wal-Mart is that many of the people who work here and shop here are from the island or were born on the island BOI. They care about their jobs and customer service because many shoppers are related to co-workers. Because this is also a tourist town, they accept unknown faces without a lot of stares like at some small town Wal-Marts. Its not high stress like Wal-Marts in the Dallas area. Its a relaxed shopping experience - unless a tropical storm is approaching. People dont get agitated until they can buy what they usually buy here. All your beach, fishing, and camping supplies can be found here. This Walmart is directly across from the beach. The city bus stops here. The Hampton Inn and Suites is across the street. Other living areas are nearby. During summer weekends its really busy here. Use the self service lane to get through the lines faster. I have never witnessed such fast checkouts. Sometimes they check your receipt as you leave the door. During the summer or tropical storm weather, this Walmart can quickly run out of basic supplies like water and infant milk when demand is high. I would like to see headquarters respond more quickly during changes in weather patterns because flooding can isolate people on the island. Maybe not this storm but it will happen. Headquarters can see these changing patterns. People are working jobs and shop when they get off work. Several shoppers complained of sold out flashlight isle and Similac during Tropical Storm Cindy. There were no cases of bottled water on the shelves yesterday but today water was right at the front of the store. One older customer was complaining that a case of water was $3.50 instead of $1.99. She was outraged to the point that her complaint cause my attention. I dont know if Wal-Mart raises prices during a pending storm. The greatest risks during bad weather is no clean drinking water, no electricity, and no baby formula. Clean water is necessary for the formula. I am glad this Wal-Mart had cases of water the next day. Overall, this is a great Wal-Mart, clean, and well-managed. I recommend it for family, friends, and tourists. If bad weather is possible, get your necessary items early before they sell out. Remember, Galveston is a small town.

I have lived on the Island since 2013, and have frequented both the Kroger and Walmart on the Island. Firstly, much of self check outs are often not functioning properly and I learned the hard way that apparently at times the machines sometimes give you less change than it was supposed to, the machine was supposed to give me $5 and some change, but it did not give me my $5, so I told the manager, who stepped away for about a minute, talked to someone a little farther away, came back and said that they checked the security cameras and that I was lying... without even have left to check the security cameras and told me to leave. Another time the scale of the self checkout was adding almost 2 pounds to the weight of produce, and I noticed so I used another self check out that proved I was right. Secondly, every other time I purchase groceries at this Walmart 1 or 2 items I purchase are rung up more expensive than the marked price. I usually tell the cashier to fix the mistake before I pay, but a few times I havent noticed the price discrepancy until the receipt was in my hands, and had to wait at the customer service desk that almost always has an extremely long line because there is only one worker at the counter. Secondly, Ive noticed that the prices for groceries at this Walmart are often more expensive ( actually sometimes extremely more expensive) than exactly identical groceries in the Kroger that is also on the Island. In fact, exactly identical groceries in Walmart stores in the Houston area are also cheaper than the Walmart on the Island. Thirdly, it took them about 2 months to restock an item that I use/purchase regularly, so their restocking isnt great either.

Even in the middle of the Harvey shenanigans I wanted to take the time to thank a pharmacy employee for her patience and nurturing spirit with my Mom. I took my mom to do some last minute shopping and to pick up medication, before leaving the island. To be honest Mom is a bit cranky at times, but today she was sweet talked right into a pleasant mood. I believe the ladys name was Linda although I did not see the last name. She had the sweetest most helpful disposition in dealing with my mom. She moved quickly about as to be efficient all the while making us feel like we were the only people there. My mother rarely notices much about people these days, however today she walked away saying "Thats a real nice girl." I would have to agree. I hope she makes it home safely, and I am thankful she was there to serve us today. She was a breath of fresh air when compared to the service we have had at other pharmacies. I just wanted to thank her and Walmart for the TLC and professionalism in their employees.

Worthless employees (at least in the customer care). Im on the phone with them as I type this all out. Im able to do that because Ive been sent to the operator three times because customer service wouldnt pick up and was then griped at by the operator for "hanging up and calling back over and over" when in reality, I was just being redirected back to the operator! Then when they did pick up they said, "hold on." They didnt mute themselves though apparently because I could here them giggling and talking about some guy. After about ten minutes of that Im assuming I got muted because I couldnt here them anymore. Im still on hold and that was fifteen minutes ago. They finally answered (btw, I am just trying to get a copy of a receipt). So they just told me that they will have to find it first and then they will call me back. I have a funny feeling that call isnt going to come. Calling them back at two (its noon now).

Honestly, this store is better than most Walmarts Ive been to, but Im not a regular Walmart shopper because I dont like the quality of the products. Basically, I shop at Walmart when I either have no idea where else to find a specific item, when Walmart happens to be by far the closest place to obtain a specific item, or when its 3 am and everything else is closed. This Walmart takes away 2 of the reasons Id ever shop there because 1. This is one of the few Walmart Supercenters that is not open 24 hours and it isnt even open as late as Kroger and 2. Its really not in a convenient location compared to Randalls, Kroger, and Target which are located near where the bulk of the people who live and vacation on Galveston travel. I have to pass all 3 of those stores and the Walmart up I-45 to get to work, but I almost never have any reason to go south of 61st and I live on 53rd.

Wielki sklep, po drugiej stronie ocean. Czynne całą dobę. Byłem w listopadzie, więc turystów raczej zero. Ceny dobre. Chciałbym aby ceny jedzenia były tak przystępne w Polsce w stosunku do zarobków. Dla tamtego klimatu najważniejsze, że sklep ma klimatyzację. Nawet jak nic nie kupujesz to możesz wejść i się schłodzić
