Have grown very fond of their chinese and their fresh pizzas. Love the sesame chicken, golden sun chicken when they have it, orange chicken, teriyaki chicken when they have it, and the mango chicken when they have it. Tip: try to get your chinese here after the food has been sitting for a bit and the bottoms of the pans are full of extra juices from the sauce... when placed fresh some of these selections like the sesame and orange chicken end up being a bit flavorless and dry.. you need that good sauce that settles to the bottom of the tray... the mushier it looks the better. Unlike most chinese places this stuff gets better as it sits... Another item I like is their in house cheese spread/dip located to the right of the deli near the babybel cheese area... cant miss it.. small tubs filled with a yellow spread that also has green/red pieces in it. Id like to try their salad buffet but never really feel like sitting in the store to eat... Other things of note: good produce selection and they do a good job trying to get you checked out fast if the lines are full.. never wait very long in the express lanes even during busy times... its appreciated. Nice health food section as well for those looking for vegan/gluten free or whatever and a decent vitamin/supplement section as well. They carry Beanitos, best chip there is...

Hy-vee overprices many of their items and their sales are usually not much to get excited about. I have seen them charge double the price of competitors on the same items. However, the one redeeming quality of Hy-Vee s that they carry some items Walmart doesnt. Since Brookings only has two real grocery stores (the other being Walmart super-center), you will find yourself having to shop here for those hard to find items by necessity if you live in Brookings.

They offer very few or no organic/non gmo options depending on the department. Their health market is tiny compared to similar stores. Prices are inflated for the many of the same products at competing stores. They have a friendly and helpful staff and their Redbox normally has all of the new releases due to infrequent use!

Just moved to Brookings and this our new grocery store of choice. Starkbucks location inside and a lot of lunch choices; Chinese, salad bar, sushi, fried chicken. Very impressed with the fresh produce selection and the check-out lines were very fast on a Sunday at 3pm.

I love grocery shopping here! It is the only grocery store in town so Im glad its so nice. Produce is always fresh, employees are stellar, they do a great job of bagging like items and not squishing anything. Also like the fresh salad bar. Highly recommend.

Clean, great selection of food, and produce is fresh. And, if the lines are long up front, they bring up extra staff to get you through the checkout quickly. I hate waiting forever to get out of the store, and they do a good job ensuring that does not happen.

97% of the time its a really good experience. I enjoy coming here and shopping at my leisure. I dont expect perfection at every visit with how often I frequent, but you do need to keep an eye on the price of items and how they ring up.

I like hy-vee because they have a section for people, like me, that are gluten, dairy, soy, etc intolerant. It makes it easier to find what I can eat in one spot. And their produce is good quality.
