Hello, My name is Nicole Cox. I am writing this letter in hope to inform my community of the discrimination that is taking place toward customers at this business. Today on 11/5/13 at around 12:15 my friend, sister and I entered a shoe store name “ The Shoe Factory located on7000 Castor Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19149, as we entered the store we the woman behind the register gave us a nasty stare, i ignored the negativity I felt, and proceeded to look at shoes. Picking up a shoe on display in the window to show my sister the woman burst out yelling “ don’t touch the shoes on display, there a sign right there. I then saw the huge card board sign hanging written in black marker it said “Please do not touch shoes on display “ I immediately apologized and put the shoes down. Because of the tone in her voice and level of disrespect everyone in the store begin to stare. So we are standing there, the entire store is in silence. My sister makes a joke to me “ ha ha your always getting in trouble” We laugh and i say to her “ your are right I am not touching anything, I am gonna stay focused “ at that point the woman behind the counter yell out you can leave. Bewildered I respond “ why are you yelling at me and why are you so hostile. She continued to yell telling me to leave the store. My sister then speaks up and say “ you are rude! you are yelling at us as if we did something wrong to you. Who is the owner, the woman behind the counter says I am. At this point another woman stands up and is watching (I later find out that she is the mother and they are the owners) she never utters a word. Leaving the store, I felt totally defeated. I called the police because I did not know what else to do! As i was making my report the mother comes out yelling telling me there is nothing the police can do. In tears I continue talking to the police. You see i can not understand what I have done to deserve this treatment: Is it because of the color of my skin? But lets rewind to 2mths ago my friend and I entered the store. the same woman behind the counter yelled and said no large bags allowed in store. My friend I were shaken by he rude and loud disposition. We said, ok no problem and took our pocket books to the car. Re-entering the store we were met with the woman behind the counter yelling on the phone at her kids father. How do I know this it was so in your face there was no escaping. My friend quickly found what she wanted and made her way to the cashier. As we waited in line to be checked out, we were met with unimaginable ignorance she proceeded to curse her childs father out about not wanting him to have her son, her mother began to curse her out saying that he was the father and deserve to spend time with the child, the cashier yelled and disrespected the mother in way that no one would speak in public. Even though I was disgusted I understand people are human so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. I said to myself “okay she is having a bad day thats why she yelled at us about our pocketbooks". I even spoke kind words to her as I could see she was stressed. But a pond my next visit I realize that is not true. This women is filled with an venom i cannot explain her ignorance is at level of no return I know i am not the only one that has experienced her hate. My family has patronized this store for years. As child my when my sisters and i visited my grandmother on holidays she would pile us up in the car and we would go to the shoe factory that had cheap/cute shoes she could afford in abundance. This store must have changed management/owner because the experience has always been pleasant. I feel so horrible about the experience. My friend, my sister and i did not deserve that treatment no one should be bullied in a shoe store. Please help me expose this business. I am a woman of integrity and morals no one deserves to be treated this way. I know i am not the only one because as i was leaving a lady walking down the street said to me “ i don’t shop there the are nasty.

DO NOT SUPPORT RACISM AND DISCRIMINATION OF ANY SORT! BOYCOTT SHOE FACTORY! My Aunt, nieces, and myself visited this store on 5/10/2015 and when we entered the lady at the front counter was very nasty and rude. 1st the store was extremely tight and crowded. Once we found the shoe we wanted, there was only one in a size 6, which was the display. They have several signs located around the store that clearly states that they will not exchange any worn shoes. I asked the lady what was the policy for displays and she rudely stated "theres nothing I can do about that". We debated if we wanted the shoe and we finally decided that we would purchase. They got on the line and I stood by the door. Several customers came in some Caucasian, some African American, and some Hispanic. When the African american lady came in the lady at the front rudely told her to "check her big bag" then two caucasian women came in a few minutes later and she did not ask them to check their bags that were equally as large as the bag that the African American woman had. I didnt say anthing, then 3 Hispanic older women came in with medium sized bags and the lady at the front immediately began yelling across the store "check your bags, check your bag" they clearly did not understand English because they continue to walk, so she proceeded to yell "la grande carterra" so the ladies came back, when they reached the counter she repeats "la grande carterra" and then says "is that English enough for you? " I immediately chimed in and adressed the blatant racism and disrespect that I was standing there witnessing. I then asked who was the manager she said "me" and then I asked for the owner and she replied "my brother! is that good enough for you?" I asked for his name and number but she refused to give it to me. She then replied that I was upset because she didnt give me a discount.I said "I dont need a discount on $12 shoes". I said why didnt you check the caucasian women bags she said "I choose who I want to check their bags. By this time we didnt purchase the shoes. We put the shoes down and one of the employees came to me using profanity and tried to push me out the door. I was digusted at how many women in the store never even confronted her on the outright disrespect and racism. We must come better than that as a people!

I shopped at this store for several years. Cheap, pretty, never see anywhere throw away shoes. Self serve is fine. But the attitudes are so horrible that If Im going to go cheap .... I would rather go " to bare feet" they play that Im better than you are game a liitle to much. The Ex- wife of the owner has to come in as she is still part owner. She doesnt want to wait on people of color and those that are biligual. She has a very bad heart and she is so frustrated that she screams and complains the whole time she is there. I feel sorry that she hates herself and the world so much that she would put her health at risk its so easy to smile. When she is there ... we leave. Its the same with her daughter! (Only she is louder) Birds of a feather flock together. The male owner is a quiet businessman who stays out of the way. If I thought it was legal I would try to stop all of the people going in and advise them of the unacceptable racial attitudes in the shoe factory. And Checking you large purse? .... Where is the security to watch your unprotected belongings? And who would steal a pair of $15. shoes anyway. Wake up consumers!!!! We have the upper hand. This is America! We can spend our money anywhere and how we want! These people take the fun out of shopping.
