I was really excited to try this place because of the reviews. I love dark, rich coffee and my office didnt have wifi today so I stopped by to get some work done. The cappuccino was eh, and they give you 1 hr of spotty wifi, then you get another hour for making another purchase. I dont mean to sound harsh, but now I know why none of my co-workers recommended it and the place is virtually empty... I dont understand. If someone is going to squat at your place and take up room that new customers can fill, then kick out the squatters. I just bought a $6 drink and wanted to try the 6 bean espresso... but now Im like eh... Ill go somewhere else. I see the whole wifi enforcement, but play it by ear. Kick out the squatters that buy a coffee and sit there for 10 hours, not the person that buys a $6 drink and wants to get a few hours of work done in a virtually empty shop. Theres a ton of other shops that offer just as good drinks and free wifi. Sorry.

I just moved into the neighborhood and I wanted a go to spot for my weekend coffee. I tried several of the nearby shops and had no problem, but then I stumbled upon this place and I fell in love. Yes, its tiny and yes, on weekends its crammed but Im willing to deal with it because of the deliciousness of the iced coffee. The regular coffee is definitely strong, so if youre a fan of a lighter brew then this isnt your place. Theres always people outside at the two bistro tables, and I love how its off the beaten path. I also love seeing the same faces there behind the bar, Im really starting to feel like part of the neighborhood. I was buying something at Tarte and a tourist asked me where there was a Starbucks nearby. Even though I knew there was on at 3rd and Arch, I directed her here because she should experience something better!

If youre visiting Philly and youre looking for a nice place to get a drink and a croissant, COME HERE. Whenever I see people going to a Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts in Center City, I can never understand why. Why go somewhere you could have gone to at home when there are places like this? Ive come here multiple times. The first time I saw this place, I was by myself and I was curious about the area. They have the most amazing iced coffee and earl gray. The most recent time I came here was for a meeting. Its the perfect place for any cafe need. The meeting went amazingly. Theres not enough room for other peoples chatter to overtake your conversation, but it doesnt really get quiet enough for your conversation to carry throughout the place. I absolutely love this place.

I usually buy lunches or juice here, rather than coffee. But I only do so sparingly because every time I go in, I get stuck with the most sullen server I have ever met. I believe her name is Leah. She never smiles, never says hello, is NEVER polite. My coworkers are in there several times a day and not once does she bother to do anything past the bare minimum of serving their coffee/food and taking their money. When she does speak, she is sarcastic or rude. Seriously, get some servers with personality and manners, please!!

This is the BEST COFFEE SHOP ever. (Thats right, ALL CAPS) Its tucked away on Church street next to the ultimate dive bar SugarMoms. They have a very locla vibe, have about 20 different coffees to choose from (beans, not brewed) and the food is quirky, tasty and usually pretty healthy. My one complaint is that they took the egg sandwich off the menu which was the best sandwich in philly. Caramelized onions, Gruyere on crusty french bread. Ohm how I miss that sandwhich.

I got a perfect soy latte when enjoying a day in old city. I have high standards when it comes to my drinks, and they exceeded my expectations. There are some massive cookies, bulk tea & coffee, misc. baked goods, ice cream and milk shakes available too. My husband had an oatmeal raisin cookie, my cousin a cappuccino milk shake. Both enjoyed and finished their tasty treats and we rested our feet in the cute cafe. We will for sure go back.

This review is based purely on their coffee beans, because thats all I go there for. They roast their own beans, but apparently they do a pretty crappy job. Ive tried to make espresso out of a number of their varieties and none are any good. The Cadillac of the group - the six bean espresso blend - sucks hardcore. Tastes like burnt Chock Full O Nuts. I dont get it. Even the pre-ground Lavazza in the black can is way better than this.

this place has free wifi but only for an hour at a time, and you must make another purchase to keep using it. the lady that advised me of the policy was quite rude... never coming here again even though the coffee is good, the crowd is old and reads the paper.... or uses their phones.... not a good place to study or work -- giving it a poor rating on food just because of the internet policy --- worst i have ever heard of

Literally my favorite coffee shop!!! Great products and amazing people. Go for their fantastic selection of coffee or loose chest tea but dont forget to check out the fresh baked offerings!!! We have hundreds of guests that stay with us each week and we always recommend this place to them without one complaint ever.

Went here with my wife this past weekend. We both liked the experience and the drinks. Super easy to pay. Chill staff. Not stuck up. Great example of a local independent shop. I ordered an iced americano and wife got an iced caramel latte. Wed definitely recommend and go back, next time in Old City.

Years ago I lived in an apartment above old city coffee. Still a powerful memory of their powerful coffee aroma coming up through the floor boards. Great coffee especially good with a generous dosing of cream. Cobblestones and the venue of an old sugar refinery complete the atmosphere.

I like it. Been coming here off and on since around 2000 (i think). They brew better coffee then most. A good amount of homemade items. Their Old City location is cute and quaint. The owners are pleasant and innovative (imo). We love their mugs for purchase design and size.

Arguably the best coffee in the city. Fresh food and great atmosphere make for a charming and lovely place Not to sound too 1 sided, but my friend does own and manage this establishment...Im always looking to stop by and say hello to a good friend :)

Reliable, independent coffeehouse, low-key and friendly staff, great place to get excellent coffee and use wi-fi or have a meeting. Best coffee shop option in the neighborhood. Was happy to stumble across this gem on Church Street.

Very nice atmosphere, nice people and great coffee! Especially for all those European tourists: Here you can get that great coffee you know you have been missing. And all that in a great relaxing way to realistic, modest prices.

Great coffee, and some of the best iced coffee Ive ever had (if youre into that sort of thing.) Theyre cash only, and hidden on a side street in Old City Philly. Theres also a location at Reading Terminal Market.
