Im writing this review for the P&R in Eynon and Edwardsville. I discovered the P&R sometime in 2014 and loved it. Ive been going there consistently ever since. The P&R is basically a second hand grocery store. They get the expired or about to expire food from other stores, or food that has a less desired flavor, though Im not entirely sure what all of the factors are. After Christmas this year they began to change pricing, I dont know how they come up with the numbers, I think its based on what the store that they received the food from had the prices at. But they now have a system where they show you the original price and they usually slash it in half and give it to you for that. The problem with it in my opinion is they seem to be unaware that there is a Wegmans right down the street from the Eynon location. What I mean by that is, sure while a Whole Foods somewhere else might charge $10 for your cashews, our Wegmans here only charges $5. So they will slash that $10 in half but youre not really getting a discount. And quite often you are paying more at the P&R because of this form of pricing. That goes for non-food items too, like diapers or household items they also sell. (Last time I went, They wanted $2.79 for a pack of wipes that had a broken flip-top, its $2.50 on Amazon.) I highly encourage anybody who is going there to save money to be certain youre getting a deal instead of just throwing things in your cart. Because I assume if you are at the P&R you dont have all the money in the world to spend on food. If you have a smart phone, I recommend you get the Wegmans app, everything they sell is on there with prices so its very easy to look things up. Since they have decided to use a new pricing system, I used to walk out with entirely full carts, now I often only go out with a quarter of what I used to get. Its disappointing to say the least. Many months back they sold a particular probiotic for $1 a box, it seemed worth it considering probiotics have a shelf life, it likely was not as strong after being on the shelf for so long, so it was hard not to feel disgusted when they recently got them back again, only to charge $14-$19 for the same box! For many of the things that I normally like to get, there just is not a discount anymore. Sometimes I feel that the slight difference in price is just not worth it in case I dont like the brand they are selling at the time. Lately I have used the P&R exclusively to slash items off of my regular shopping list because youre really not getting a large discount anymore. Now keep in mind that for the most part Im talking about pre-packaged processed foods. The freezer Department, refrigerated section and "fresh" produce are an entirely different story. Im going to issue a very big WARNING here, it is one thing to get processed foods past their expiration, it almost never matters. The most youre faced with is it being stale. But with the more perishable foodstuff you have to be extremely careful. Yes I have known people to get sausage there, chicken, and other things and have gotten sick, some have gotten so sick that theyve refused to ever go there for anything again. I have never gotten sick, but then I also use prudence, and know that when something is highly perishable it should be packaged in a certain way, and not have any signs whatsoever of turning. Even then you cant be completely certain especially with something like fresh sausage. I just avoid those things all together. I have gotten dairy that is often spoiled, many things that afterwards I realized were also bad. I like to get Romaine, they frequently have a purple and green mix that is my favorite, and only for $0.99! How nice right? Except of course when you didnt realize that the purple leaves were rotting because its too hard to tell through the packaging and you end up spending 15min. wiping leaves off and throwing half of it away. Lastly their employees are often nasty and miserable. I really want to give a better rating and review, but not till I see things change for the better.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. Yes, all that capitalization was necessary. Driving down the road, you would never even know this place existed. It looks like it should be part of Kost Tire. Somehow, what looks like this tiny little hole in the wall, is hiding a treasure trove of awesomeness. The first time I went was because a friend referred me there for a car seat. If youve got kids, you know how expensive they can be. If youve got kids and access to the internet, you know how expensive a good one can be. Well, P&R has them, at rock bottom prices. Some were floor models, or "dented box" sort of deals. But every one was a phenomenal price and high quality. We have friends that are car seat techs, and even they agreed that P&R is the place to go. Anyways, I was expecting to walk into some Babies-R-Us meets Pawn Stars, based on reviews and my pre-judgement of the area. Well, I was amazed at what I found. Its a cornucopia of everything wonderful. Aside from the babies and kids section is a complete grocery store. The selection changes constantly, as does where they put stuff on the shelves. Its like a treasure hunt for grown ups. Often, half of the selection is organic, with a large gluten-free variety. Im able to buy things that I would never be able to afford at a chain store- those $6/bag fancy chips and crackers are often under a dollar. Grains supplements, condiments, frozen foods, produce, meat and dairy. They have everything- well worth the hour drive for me to make it our primary bulk headquarters.

This place can give nice discounts, but please check prices! They are very scammy calling themselves a discount store when a large portion of what they sell is more expensive than elsewhere. Yes their prices on fresh fruit and vegetables is so incredibly amazing! That is if you dont mind rotting food. The reason its so cheap is that they have to get rid of it quickly because its all going bad. I question the quality of the meat they sell, I have thrown raw meat out for being spoiled, and often their beef is mislabeled. I avoid buying raw meat now as Ive known people who got sick from it, please be careful people! And yes many of the employees who work there are miserable and nasty to you. Not all of them though. They keep inching their prices higher and higher overtime which I find very grimy, the place seriously needs better management.
