Two words - STAY AWAY!! I have no insurance so when Living Social had a coupon for an eye exam and glasses I jumped at the chance. I knew that my glasses would be more expensive, so I was prepared to pay more than the coupon that I purchased. I had my appointment with the doctor, but the staff seemed disengaged and disinterested in helping me to select frames that would pair well with me AND the type of prescription that I needed. After way too long of a wait, someone from the back came out to help. I have worn glasses all my life and NEVER had such a hard time getting glasses. I was told my glasses would take a week because of the special prescription that was necessary yet I got a call the next day to tell me they were ready. I went to pick them up and I was having trouble seeing properly, but agreed to take them to see if my eyes would adjust - they didnt - after a week of headaches and distorted vision, I made another appointment and told me they gave me the right prescription, but ground the lenses differently so they would make another pair. The second pair didnt work out right either! When I brought them back I was asked if I wanted a credit or a refund, so I told them I wanted a refund of the $178 over and above the coupon price that I had paid. They told me later that day that the owner would call me - I called the next day and they said the owner would call me back - I NEVER received a call and never got a refund and NEVER got any glasses since the ones that I had paid for had been returned. Worse yet, I now have no money to pay for a proper pair of glasses since I am on Social Security disability and they already took the money I had scrimped together to buy them! When you own a business, sometimes mistakes happen. They very well could have gotten a good review from me if they had handled the adversity in a cordial and respectful manner and said "Im Sorry for the inconvenience" and returned my money. Instead, the owner didnt even have the guts to call me or the decency to give the refund that was offered. I reported this mess to the Better Business Bureau, but they NEVER responded to the complaint let alone refund my money. My advice - Stay as far away from here as possible. My thanks to Singer Specs/Sterling Optical for sending me an invitation to write a review!

I am frustrated and SO ANGRY about my most recent encounter at Sterling Optical in Exton. My son is 10 years old... He has 2 pair of glasses. I had read the posts about this business before we went there, but they accepted our insurance and they were convenient, so I decided to take my chances. Our first experience was not so bad. The staff member we worked with was helpful and kind. We had some difficulty with the delivery of the glasses. We ordered 2 pair at the same time, same brand. 1 came in in about a week, one came in about 3 wks later. Frustrating, but something you can handle. We went back today to have adjustments on my sons glasses. I honestly cant believe we made it this long (its been about a year)... Prior to this, we went to Lenscrafters (excellent company! So friendly, and hours were great, but no longer accept our insurance) frequently for adjustments. Kids are hard on glasses. The staff member who was working didnt look up from his computer when we walked in, but did ask if he could help us. I told him we were there for an adjustment on 2 pair. He took the first and stood behind the counter and bent them back into shape. Then he took the second pair, looked at my 10 year old and said "dont you know you no longer have a warranty when you bend your glasses like this??". I was silent. Continuing to look at my son, he said "WHY do you BEND you glasses this way????" I was in shock! At first I thought he was kidding, but no. I argued with him. He did not do it on purpose, and why was he yelling at my child?? After awhile I told him he was very difficult, and was he going to help us? He decided he would, bent the glasses back into shape and we were on our way. I will frequent this store only as long as we own these glasses. I will never go there again for another order, though, and I think its sad. He may have been having a bad day, but you never, never take it out on the client, and never on a child! Now theyve not only lost a good customer, but I will relate this story to whoever will listen.

I was going to this office because I was unable to get an appointment at my regular provider. Everything was fine during the exam. When I went to look for glasses, a woman helped me through out the whole process. At points I thought she was helpful and at other points I found her very pushy. I went through my insurance coverage with another man who smelt like cigarettes. I then asked for a copy of my contact lens prescription because I wanted to purchase them on my own through a cheaper online service. Immediately everyone got very cold towards me and then one woman began explaining how if I bought my contacts through Sterling Optical they would be able to help me if I was ever short on them in the future...basically saying if I didnt buy from them they wouldnt be willing to help. I eventually got the prescription and left. When I went to order my lens I couldnt find my paper with my script so I tried calling to verify what I thought was correct. I was then informed that they would not release my information because there was something unpaid on bill - after looking into it more I found it was a service they told me was covered by my insurance and basically forced me into getting. I eventually found the script and saw they had printed out my old script and not my updated one. I knew what they new one was so I tried to order the lens on my own but the service I used said that Sterling was telling me I was using the wrong script and suggested I use my old one. Over all I wont be going back.

This is a mixed review. HIGH TURNOVER: I have seen three doctors here over the past few years. Before this, when I lived in Florida, I had the same eye doctor for the entire rest of my life. Id like to develop a relationship with my doctor - especially someone I go to for ongoing care. CUSTOMER SERVICE - INCONSISTENT at best The service can be terrific - like when Barb helps you select the perfect lenses for your face shape and size (this is something that she is very good at). BUT, if you are not in the midst of being helped, you are often ignored. On a positive note, when Ive needed an adjustment, I have never been sent away without the adjustment I need - at no cost. INSURANCE CLAIMS UNCLEAR I have never been given a clear understanding of what they are getting from my insurance coverage and what isnt covered. When I ask questions to figure it out, they all of a sudden find another discount or something they can offer me... I almost ALWAYS feel like they are trying to get away with something. BEST HOURS/SELECTION OF FRAMES This is probably why I keep coming back. When you wear glasses everyday, you want the best and most comfortable frame with high quality lenses. If a Rx is complicated, they will send it out, which is fine with me. If it is a little easier, they can do it right there in a very short period of time. They are open (I think) 7 days a week, so theres no beating those hours, unlike a traditional optometrist!
