My fiance and I came in on Friday the 13th and had a few cocktails to celebrate our recent engagement. This place is going somewhere the Blue Monk before it could never hope to compete with! Excellent "clubby" music tonight, although they dont prefer one genre over another. Not to mention the art gallery was very tasteful, as was our food! Ill admit I was a bit concerned when I ordered the Steak Skewer and wasnt asked how Id like it cooked, but the head chef almost immediately appeared to find that out, and didnt shy away when asked about other menu options. And both of our bartenders were fairly attentive given the busy Friday night, were gonna come back to see some upcoming bands and DJs very soon!

The basement was incredibly loud even though there were sound deadeners on the walls. I could barely talk to the people I was standing near and they were hosting a meet n greet. It was good that there was no cell or internet service downstairs, it made everyone talk to one another! The food took over an hour to get to me. My friend that tried to get a drink upstairs had problems getting a drink. The bartender was very slow. It could have been they were not prepared for the number of people that came to the meet n greet, service times could be a regular problem. The decorations on the main level are neat. It might be a interesting stop for a small group on an off-peak day.

I came in to meet a friend who ended up being 2.5 hours late, i stayed and chatted with a few strangers who one of which eventually introduced me to the owner, a very nice man who made me feel very comfortable to continue to hang alone. i have friends who throw shows here on the regular and which i attend, so most my experiences have been in the basement dancing. Cant wait to return! and the bartenders are all adorable!

If you want to hang out at a bar full of hipsters the liquor store is for you. If you want to go see a show with a bunch of hipsters and a decent but very packed small venue the basement of the liquor store offers decent acoustic strong drinks and a OK stage. Sometimes the bands at the liquor store or reoccurring so if you find one you like theres a good chance you can see in there again.

Sensory deprivation dancefloor, like dancing in a closet. Im really blown away how incredibly dark they insist on the dancefloor here. Only one out of 15 shows can you even see the person next to yous face. No checking out a cute girl across the dance floor. But they do book good DJs. Id buy them black lights if theyd put them up.

The owner, I think, was DJing when we walked in with awesome beats. Came for a show downstairs but enjoyed the atmosphere upstairs until the time was right to dance away the night. Everyone was super friendly. Bathroom line up was a lil outta control until I found the sneaky one downstairs. Will be back:)

A worthy replacement for The Blue Monk, which had occupied the space for many years. One visit was all it took to make The Liquor Store my favorite bar in SE Portland. The DJs have all been great, especially Rev. Shines, whos often there on Tuesdays spinning rare funk and soul.

Great vibe in here. Pretty cool bartenders and decor. They also had the old silent version of Zorro playing on the back wall. The drinks we nice and strong; something we needed on a Friday night after a long week.

Went for 24 cent nacho night. Salsa was spicy as heck, took over 45 minutes to get em, but the bartenders kept the drinks flowing despite the madness. Kudos to the team FOH & BOH.

While the bartender was energetic and personable we found it strange that with 6 people in the bar we were invited to come place our order at the bar and pick up our own drinks.

Outstanding! The vibe was subdued yet happening, tunes by Tim Blanchard threw a funky sophistication into the air. Next time Ill bring someone so I dont have to dance alone.

I really liked their cocktails, but the music was at dancing volume, and too loud and i was hard to converse with my friends. However, upstairs there is no dance floor.

This place brings in a fun crowd. The drinks are always amazing and the beer selection is fantastic. Its across the street from other gems. Love the neighborhood.

Knowledgable and fancy bartenders coupled with a great mini-Function One sound make this one hot spot to get a drink and get some rump shaking on.

This place is like a mullet: business upstairs, party downstairs. Great of you cant decide between a classy bar or a dive bar. They have both.

Nice space. Fairly clean bathrooms and a photo booth. Food is good and the service is alright. Parking is on street and they are narrow.

Dim lit lounge with a great atmosphere. Always a live dj playing melo music. Craft cocktails and upscale bar food at dive bar prices.

Great bar, but honestly, even better club in the basement. Expect good electronic music pretty much every weekend downstairs.

Intimate, dimly lit downstairs music venue. A bit pricy for drinks, but what can you do. Upstairs seems a bit more lively.

Yes! Awesome, creative cocktails. Cool vibe with DJ playing funk on a Monday, 2 dollar pizza, 1920s vibe bar.

Not a liquor store. Bad name. Ruined my evening.
