The person identified as Ruth who wrote the previous review has written three reviews of local businesses and all of them were bad. I dont know what her problem is but she has proven herself to be an unreliable reviewer who has nothing good to say about anybody. Broadway Books has been a lovely place to shop for almost 19 years. They always exhibit courtesy and professionalism. The store holds all sorts of wonders and the clerks are knowledgeable and helpful. They make it easy to patronize a locally-owned shop, something we should all be doing. It is small businesses like this one that help create community and diversity and make our neighborhoods unique.

I have been going into Broadway books for three years and have finally decided to stop going in there. I love their greeting cards, unique stationary, and planners, but I do not like the customer service there. Every time I have gone in there, the clerk is never able to maintain eye contact or even smile. Today, my bag was basically thrown at me and toppled over on the floor. I really like supporting local business but find that with my money being even tighter, I simply want the whole experience of nice service with a smile and a great product. I simply cannot put up with one without the other.

I so appreciate Broadway Books and have for years. I love their newsletter! I always find something new from the tables and shelves that invite me. The staff is helpful, and even other customers are friendly. They order books for me (even by phone) and books arrive so quickly and I receive a call, "Your Book is in!" In a very rushed and aloof world I am grateful for this store of personal service. Our community is blessed with Broadway Books! Peace, Father John McGrann

Best neighborhood bookstore. Its in NE Portland across the street from Helen Bernhard Bakery. Buy a book there and then go across the street for the best brownies in town. There really are too few bookstores like this left in the country. They have a wonderful selection of fiction books in particular and I never fail to find amazing new novels Id never heard of before that they personally select for some of the display tables and shelves. Great greeting cards too!

I wish I lived closer to this bookstore, though Id likely be broke if I did. I go here when I can because of the great book selection & amazing service. You will not find more knowledgeable or helpful sellers of books any where. The selection is current, eclectic, and amazingly deep for the space. I always go here to buy gifts for the readers in my life - Roberta and Sally and their staff always come up with great choices.

The buyer for this store has a wonderful eye. She has chosen the best of the best. I go out of my way to go to Broadway books because of the sensibility that looks carefully at the books that come out and chooses the best. This is true of nature books, art books, novels, nonfiction. I have a kindle and I use it, but I continue to go to Broadway books because she calls attention to the best that is coming out.

Amazingly awesome customer service! They happily special-ordered a small press book for me and got it days faster than any online sellers would have. The gal I worked with even remembered our conversation on the phone and (free) gift wrapped the book I got. At Broadway Books, you get personalized and thorough service. Worth the trip.

A small bookstore with plenty of calendars, planners, and presents alongside new releases. Alas it has a tiny young adult and fiction section, and no sci-fi or fantasy in sight so steer clear if those are your genres. Also it is incorrectly categorized as a used book store in Google maps, nothing in here is used.

A great place to come spend a few minutes. Friendly atmosphere with a great staff that knows and loves books. Lots of local authors drop by which is great to see as well.

Tiny space, big selection -- including local authors and local interest selections. Regular author talks and readings keep you coming back. Check their online schedule.

This is a great little bookstore! Very accessible with knowledgeable staff! Much easier to navigate then Powells - they only have the "good stuff"!
