Went in looking for a possible new bird companion. Walked over to the window looking into the bird room and parakeets were flying everywhere, some were even flying into the window and falling down. I told an employee about it, she said it was normal during cleaning time because the employees dont always close the cages right. (first wtf? moment) ok so I walk back over hoping to find the "cleaning" employee so I could ask some questions, stood there for several min while the young girl working the birds talked about some boy she was dating with a friend. Got sic of waiting and found another employee who got someone to talk to me. While asking questions about thier birds, specifically the cockataiels I found out they do not buy from a breeder but instead from any random person who walks into the store with babies, so they have no idea where they came from or how they had been raised, pretty sure they were hand raised though. They had no idea how old they were "probably under 1 year", and when I asked if they were at all used to people or being handled I was told that they were not! It was said that they had been in the shop for a while and so they had become quite unsocial and nippy since no one there ever did anything with them. She told me point black that they would bite, but "should get over it in a week or two". The whole time we are talking parakeets are thumping against the glass, and one fell behind another birdcage and almost got its wing caught up. Another girl came into the bird room, picked up a net and started angrily swatting at and catching birds with a net. At one point I gasped "oh my god" after a bird nearly got knocked right out of the air. Girl 1 went into room, said some things to Girl 2 who then stomped out and her bad attitude could clearly be heard. Girl 1 dissapeard after that ( I am assuming to do girl 2s job for her) and I never got to finish asking my questions. I walked out completely unsatisfied and feeling terrible for the animals that have to live there. All in all, most of the staff was friendly, but it was clear that no one really cared much about the animals well being. To these people pets are products and they just dont care. I dont care if they have exactly what I want or not, I will never give these people my money. Sad.

I always try to support local business and when I first went to Animal House I was mortified. They are selling dogs that have serious health problems. The dogs smell so bad from living in unsanitary conditions. They house male and female rodents and rabbits together so chances of you adopting a female that is pregnant is pretty high. We know because we had this happen a few years back when we got two rabbits for our kids and both of them were female and both were pregnant. This store would be ok if they would stop selling dogs and cats and learn to separate the rodents and rabbits. Also, guinea pigs and rabbits are kept in the same cage area and are fed the same food. Rabbits and guinea pigs need very different diets so the fact that they do not take care of the animals that they have is just horrible. I feel the worst for those puppy mill dogs, and yes they are puppy mill dogs. No reputable breeder would sell to a puppy mill as they want to make sure they know where their animals are going and they also have requirements for their animals, like being fixed so that their animals do not reproduce. That is what a reputable breeder would do, not those selling to pet stores, those are puppy mills. Anyone who thinks otherwise is very wrong. To Animal House, why dont you take a little more care with your animals? Stop selling cats and dogs and let a rescue come in everyday and adopt out all those unwanted dogs and cats that probably came from your store to begin with and then were bred and then bred again and then not wanted anymore. People need a little education on the horrors of puppy mills. Go to YouTube and type in Puppy Mills and you will learn a lot from watching those videos. Reputable breeders do not sell to pet stores, puppy mills do.

Every time I go into this store I am greeted with great customer service. The workers are helpful but now too overbearing. I go in to this store every couple of weeks to see the animals and look around and I almost never see the same animals twice. I always go in and hold some bunnies and they all are so friendly and clean. The workers make sure you know how to hold them before they let you which is great. I have been in this store for half an hour just holding bunnies before. I also spend time back with the dogs and kittens. They let you sit and play with a puppy for a while and each time Ive done that the puppies have looked very healthy and clean, they are not too skinny or bloated or anything. A lot of times the puppies will have accidents in their cages, they are puppies they cant help it, they dont have control over their potty times until they are 12-18 weeks old anyway. I have also never seen dog poop left in the cage for more then 5 minutes before a worker sees it and cleans it. Each time I go back to the fish room and reptile area they are being cleaned and cared for by the staff member that is assigned there for the day. The workers typically have a lot of knowledge on the fish and reptiles they have. And if any of them are sick they turn the light off and hang a sign saying so, that way you dont buy sick fish. All of the rodents are always very loving and playful and they even have cages for the moms and her babies to be and they are moved to another cage as they get older. I really love this store and I will only every get my animals through them, as long as they have what i want at the time otherwise I will have no choice but to go elsewhere.

Well. In the past few years, this place has declined significantly. The way the animals are being kept is appalling. The animals are kept in unclean conditions and most of them appear to be extremely stressed out. Birds look scraggly, a lot of them pull out their own feathers due to stress. Most of the bunnies appear to have ear mites. The bunnies are kept in wood chips(wood chips are well known among rabbit owners to cause lung issues). Almost every time I go into the shop there appears to be dead fish floating in tanks, sometimes even being eaten by other the other fish. The puppies are often kept in filth, and are given almost no space to live in(some appear to be sick). I suspect that they get their dogs from puppy mills, seeing as they clearly arent rescue pups and any half decent breeder would likely not sell to a pet shop. I have heard many stories about the terrible experiences people have here. Luckily, the employees werent terribly rude to me. They were helpful enough on the phone and in person. But after I had told the lady I was ready to ring up, she looked mildly pissed off which confused me. But other than that no complaints about the customer service. Several years ago, the store wasnt in great condition, but it was better than this. I come back every so often to see if the stores condition has improved, but it only seems to be getting worse. I wont be going back. I definitely would not recommend this store to anyone.
