Quite possibly the worst buying experience I have had in the USA. I went to the store looking to buy a shotgun. A fairly friendly employee talked me through the process. He asked what I was looking for and was bordering on horrified that I had no intention of ever firing the weapon. Despite being made to feel ridiculous for attempting to buy a firearm for training purposes, I went ahead with the transaction. After paying for the item and handing over my state issued id and ssn, it appeared that I needed an extra form of id. I went home and retrieved said item, returning to the store to collect my shotgun. I returned to the place I last saw the employee that sold me the gun. I waited there for a good 5 minutes. Whilst waiting I observed 4 members of staff at a register not 10ft from where I was standing. Another customer walked up to where they were standing and he too stood there patiently waiting to be served or even acknowledged. After another 5 minutes one of the 4 staff walked over to the other customer (standing about 4ft from them) and told them to go and take a number from the counter. He then returned to the other 3 staff who were then joined by another member of staff. Sensing that Id stood there for nearly 10 minutes, the same employee walked over and asked me if I needed any help. I explained I had returned to collect my firearm. He replied "You need to go and take a number". At this point I counted a total of 8 staff members in the store, only one of which was actively engaged in serving a customer. I told the employee I no longer wanted the firearm and wanted a refund. He then went to tell me that I needed to take a number from the counter. Hmmmm Instead he called a manager to authorize a refund. The manager arrived, glanced at the receipt and said ok. He (plus another member of staff) then went and joined the other 3 staff members at the register, as the lay away issue they couldnt get their heads around was far more important than serving actual customers. The employee serving me eventually returned to the register (with my shotgun!?) and then started the refund process. Id like to think that he wasnt deliberately taking his time and that he genuinely did not know what he was doing . . . . But Im not sure. He requested the manager come over as he needed an authorization code. Sadly, the manager did not come over but rather gave his authorization number over the radio. I could quote it (but this is not the forum). The employee still wasnt able to refund my card and instead had to give me cash. The whole experience was awful and if I could give zero stars I would. It seemed pointless speaking to the manager on duty as he was part of the problem (maybe an area manager would like to email me directly). I chose Gander Mountain as I am an NRA Member and Instructor and we allegedly have a good relationship with them. I WILL NOT be recommending Gander Mountain to ANY of my students, friends or even my worst enemy.

On several trips to this store, over the last three or four years, I have been regularly disappointed, both at their prices and at their customer services. Today my brother and I were yet again let down by an employee who seemed not only unhelpful and slightly rude, but perhaps also hung over. The fact that this location has changed formats--starting as a full-service outdoors store, then being a firearms-only store, and now back to an outdoors store--tells me that they are either struggling for business, or they havent found their niche yet. For a store that has been in the area as long as this one has, this is unacceptable. The prices at this location (I cant speak for all Gander Mountain stores because this is the only one Ive visited) are horrendously high. You can expect to spend a good 15-20% more here than at Vances on Cooke Rd or Cabelas up in Polaris. While they say theyre willing to price match local competitors, the hassle they give about doing so almost negates the value of the service. Furthermore, while Vances offers Military and Law Enforcement pricing on a selection of their firearms, Gander Mountain does not. In closing, I would not recommend this Gander mountain location, and by extension any other location, to anybody searching for anything. Do yourself the favor of visiting any one of the areas other firearms and sporting goods stores.

I shopped around and picked out a scope that I liked, I bought gift cards every payday to get fuel points. When I went to purchase the scope they did not have it, I asked when their next shipment was and showed up and they still didnt have it. I was told the next truck would come three weeks later and was disappointed. Aggravated I went home and purchased the scope online from Cabelas for the same price and had it shipped to my house. I still had the gift cards so I decided to buy some Crimson trace laser grips for another fire arm. There was two people working behind the counter and I waited over an hour to be helped. Finally I interrupted The employee and told him I just need this product in the case so I can pay for it and he went and got another employee that was waiting to clock in to help me. If all this wasnt bad enoug, I was at another gun store and found out there was a $50 rebate on all Crimson trace products and I was never made aware of this at Gander Mountain. Their staff is lazy and they drag their feet. I would say shop somewhere else prices are matched anywhere you go there service sucks

Just got back not too long ago. I took a number as i browsed around looking for a firearm. I waited over an hour and never got called. 3 other people walked in behind me and didnt take a number. All 3 customers got service before i did. Had my eye on a used firearm. After waiting over an hr they finally called my number and the pistol i was interested in was already purchased by an employee that was working. I shop here all the time weather its for my fishing supplies or purchasing a firearm. Been coming here since i was 18 yrs old. Im now 29. I left very dissapointed and the staff wasent helpfull at all. Another time i went in to purchase anither firearm i been wantin for a while. H&k p30. And they was doign price match. I found one online in stock and showed the staff. They looked up the item number and everythin to make sure it was the right pistol. After everythin was done they told me they couldnt price macth because the price was too low and they will be losing money. I tried to give you guys the benifit of doubt but enough is enough. Going to vances from now on.

Went to purchase a handgun knowing the price was higher than Vances. But they will match plus 10% off. After purchasing the employee tried to charge me full price and I had to remind him of the price match that we had already talked about. Then after my short wait for my background check I came back the next day to pick up my hand gun but instead of just signing for it and leaving the same store associate that sold me the gun told me I needed to take a number to be waited on. Are you f***ing kidding me? I have already paid and waited a day to pick up this gun and you want me to sit in a line? This on top of not even knowing how to give me the proper forms to fill out because you have no technological skills using a printer. DO NOT buy a gun from this store the employees are lazy and half of them dont even know how to handle a gun. I will never purchase anything from this store again.
