Ive been trying to get on to write my personal review for Taylor and Vadney Sporting Goods and finally have the time to do so. Id really like to address all of the negative comments Ive been reading and hearing about. This is my story...Ive had my pistol permit for a little over a year. Just before receiving it, my husband and I were looking at different places to buy guns and did tons of research. We had gone to a local shop in Cobleskill and Mike was very nice, just was looking for more of a variety. My boss then told me about Taylor and Vadney so we decided to give it a chance. My husband had made a long list of guns that he wanted and me I didnt really know many of them again being new to "pistols" wasnt sure what was good for me. I had called on the phone to ask about guns they had in stock and prices. The person who answered simply replied that they didnt quote prices on the phone and suggested that I come take a look and talk to someone. At first I was a little upset thinking that why would I want to drive an hour away if I didnt know what they had and had been afraid that just because I was a female and didnt know much about pistols I would be a "bother" to anyone working there. About a week later we finally had received our permits so my husband and I were going to Rotterdam Mall and decided that sense we were in the area we would stop in and look at what was there.....I HAVENT LOOKED BACK TO OTHER PLACES SINCE! We entered the store and Pat immediately greeted us with a friendly smile and firm hand shake. He asked what brought us in and as we told him our story and what we were looking for he was very helpful and besides having full conversations with my husband he took a lot of his personal time to talk with me "a female". He answered questions, gave me suggestions, and just overall treated me like a customer and a friend NOT like a dollar sign or a stupid broad who didnt know anything. When the shop got busy I told him to help the other customers that I was still looking around. He apologized sincerely and said he would be right back. My first visit with him lasted over 3 hours and he didnt disappoint me once. How could I blame him for being busy thats the nature of his business or any business for any fact. He doesnt like to give quotes over the phone "so what" and if youre looking to find out what he has, come in and if youre the person who says hes too busy for you then just think if the people on the phone take up his time to ask "stupid" questions than that is time he could be spending with you in the shop. PAT AND HIS STAFF ARE THE BEST BY FAR SO PLEASE BE HONEST. When you come in and dont act like they owe you something for nothing, or that his job is to make sure your application will go through. His job is to sell guns thats what the business is - if you go in and talk business and maybe some personal stuff depending on what you personally are looking to do then this is the right shop for you. Ive spent a lot of time and money to come here and there is NO WHERE Id rather go. Pat treats me and my family with respect. Hes honest when we get into conversations, and he treats my boys and my daughter right too. Im simply saying that this is a terrific place to do your "gun/sporting" business and if I can drive an hour one way just to do mine, you should really take the time to do so too.

I just picked up a new fly reel on-line ( not many places have Shimanos Moocher GT 4000 for lefties) So, I went in to see Pat about putting some backer line on it. While he dropped what he was doing and put a couple hundred yards on it, I wandered over to the firearms section to see what they might have for a lefty that would be suitable as a "camp/backpacking" rifle. Well, the gentleman behind the counter was obviously having his lunch, but without hesitation, he put his sub aside, listened to what I was looking for, asked a couple of questions, and in no time had me hooked up with exactly what I was looking for. Since it was a pump, I didnt have an issue with it being right handed. Walked in looking to have my reel loaded and walked out with the perfect firearm Iwas looking for. He didnt even charge me for the line!!! "Watta Guy !!" Thanks Pat, youve got a new "regular". Allen Updated on June 14 2014 A few weeks back I decided that since Im now retired, and remembering how much I enjoyed target shooting back when I was in the Navy during Nam, Idecided to get my pistol permit. Well I trotted myself back to T&V to see Pat. He talked me through the ins and outs of the paperwork, gave me the info for a top notch permit course at Guan Ho Ha fish and game club ( sanctioned by the NRA ). Then we got down to brass tacks to pick out the pistol for a leftie like me. The main problem for a "leftie" is manuplating the slide lock on a semi-auto which is what I prefer since that is what I trained on in the Navy. After looking at several pistols he showed me a Ruger P90. Its like it was made for me: with no effort my non-shooting hand was able to wrap over the slide and manipulate the slide lock. Then he gave me a GREAT price. After I get my permit, I plan on going back to get a revolver. .357 or .38 ----- what do you think Pat?

EXCELLENT EXPERIENCES...Ive been dealing with T & V for years and have never been disappointed. I lost count of how many purchases I have made there and not once have I not been completely happy. Pat has always been fair with his pricing on both used and new items. I know some people have written that the staff has been short with them but sometimes with the high volume of customers in the establishment, a little patience is necessary from the consumers end. With that said, give the place a chance when you have some time to spend and youll be pleasantly surprised as I have been. THANKS Pat for the years of great service and awesome deals! I would like to add...I see that there are some negative comments on here regarding this establishment. They have always treated me with the utmost respect and have never faltered on what the law requires to complete a transaction. I noticed that someone complained they had to give information that had already been required to get the pistol permit. This info is ALWAYS required when purchasing a firearm of any kind. The store must obey laws set by our federal government and that is why this process must be followed. Considering that we are the last nation on this planet that allows us to purchase firearms within reason, I dont think that 20 minutes of time is too much to ask to ensure these firearms are ending up in the correct hands. After all...when a tragedy occurs the first thing they look at is the process. I respect the fact that small business owners like Taylor & Vadney Sporting Goods have upheld the standards required by law. If they didnt ask for the proper information, whos hands would these weapons end up in? Sleep well knowing that T&V are keeping your streets as safe as they can. Beyond that, contact your local politician and have THEM police your neighborhood.
