After bringing my electric bike to Ricks shop, upon meeting him I found him to be a bit forward in his opinion on my bikes setup. He made a mockery of the cheap kick stand I had, the duck tape I had around the battery, but, he was right. If you can get past his candor, he has great mechanics on duty, he is honest in his assessment, and he doesnt pull any punches. He was the only bike shop in buffalo that had my brand of Proline disk brake pads. I like him. I like his shop. I will be back for my other bikes to be repaired. My bike has over 1000.00 into it and I shouldnt have had a kickstand that barely holds the bike up. I should have had a better covering for my battery. I understand what he was saying. At first I started to get heated up, but then I laughed, and now I laugh everytime I think about it. Make no mistake, they are good, real good and have good prices. I highly reccomend them.

This store is conveniently located on Allen St in a pretty cycling heavy area for Buffalo. They also have a good selection of lower cost bicycles for sale, but thats about it when it comes to this store. They have the various accessories you might need, such as lights, racks, pannier bags, toolsets etc. The inventory and location of this shop is where the good part ends, the staff appear bored and more interested in talking to each other than they are helping customers. When you do manage to get someones attention you get the feeling they are talking down on you for not knowing everything there is to cycling as a casual rider. If you value good service and reputation over saving a couple bucks, head down to Campus Wheelworks as some of the products sold here are not built to last, but to get you out the door.

This place is great. I went in with a hundred questions regarding bikes. Tom took the time and walked through each of my questions. He asked me what I was looking for, price range and brought out a few bikes for me to test ride. Got a bike i am very happy with that was on sale. Also pointed me in the right direction of a helmet, and pump. He gave me a free water bottle which was nice touch. Very good experience and I would recommend this place to anyone. This place is for bike enthusiasts and they were real blunt with customers they considered were likely to take advantage of them. But my experience was very good. Treated me well, got great service, got the bike I wanted...and found out they are a no nonsense business. I took off a star because they were so so Blunt with two other customers.

Ive lived all around Allentown for the past 6-7 years. Not owning a car and relying strictly on my bicycle to get around, Ive been to Ricks hundreds of times. Theyre work is fine, Ive never had a problem with anything that Ive asked them to do for my bike, but Ive never once had a friendly experience. The guy that is always there (could be Rick, i dont know) is always a di*k. If you dont know much about bikes I feel like they take advantage of that and price accordingly. The same can be said about trade-ins. I now go to Campus Wheel Works on Elmwood, regardless how close I am to Ricks. Those guys are much more friendly and even offered to let me fix my bike myself in the store using their tools in order to save me money and time. Im all Campus Wheel Works now.

Had a bike stolen and Ricks recovered it. The owner recognized the bike and purchased it then matched the serial numbers from an old receipt. All i had to do was pay what he payed to recover it. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and always willing to help meet my needs. When I first started riding they gave me an in depth demonstration on proper posture and operation. More than willing to answer questions with explanations from any rider, Amateur to pro. The reviews saying that the staff is rude tend to forget that this is a family run local business and they can be rough around the edges, but 120 years of operation is a testament to their skill and dedication to their art. I recommend this shop to family and friends regularly.

One of the mechanics, John, was patronizing, kept withholding and changing the repair cost, refused to take pictures for filing a damage claim. He initially said that he wouldnt be able to fix the battery configuration on my hybrid bike. I was going to have my father take a look before John did it himself -INCORRECTLY- without my approval. He charged $100 for that alone, and my father said that his configuration probably would have blown up the batteries because he did a 12V configuration on a 48V setup. I had to pay $100 for John to try to destroy my batteries, $100 for framework repairs, $90 for tax, $40 for pickup/delivery - and i didnt learn about the $90 tax or $100 "electrical work" until he was ready to drop it off.

They have it all and then some. The basement has more used bikes and random parts than youve ever seen in your life. They have been described as being a little rough around the edges, but these guys live eat sleep and breathe cycling. I love them and I love this store. Dont be put off, they are some of the most knowledgeable guys around, and they are willing to negotiate on used parts. I go here all the time, sometimes just to shoot the breeze on lunch. Come here and know that youre spending your money in a 100yo local business. They occupy a very unique niche.

Just bought a 7yr old trek that they sold to me for $415. The guy told me it was last yrs model and of course because i didnt know any better they took advantage of it. When i checked the bicycle blue book it was only $180 like new... smh. This is my third bike and last one that i will ever buy from there!!! On top of that they refused to give me a refund, mind you i took it back the day after i bought it. Berts has the same bike 2016 model for $380... but i guess thats what i get for trying to be a nice guy and help out the local shop.

Heres to the guys out their that are not so happy with Ricks Cycle Shop, well i have been a customer and good friends with the original owner Jim he was Toms dad. im still a customer for the last 32yrs. now when ever i go i always have Tommy take care of me when i buy a brand new Raleigh bike or to have service done and never had one problem.. Tom runs a tight ship and makes sure his guys are doing what they are suppose to be doing. Believe me and see for yourselves the buisness is a legend. ( your friend Tom ) Jim.

I have been having service here for years. prompt efficient and reasonable.Decided to splurge last year and bought a used custom high end bike for about a third of its built cost. everyone speaks bike jargon in there but they took the time to match the perfect hybrid bike for my grown daughter. it is not the same buying experience you would get in walmart or berts. it is a vintage building with creaky floors and busy people fixing bikes and its great to keep it local.
