I dont know if this place has changed management recently, but I would have to disagree with other reviewers. The staff here have been nothing but friendly and helpful to me and my girlfriend since we acquired a lizard by accident. They helped guide us through making a habitat for our new found friend and have gone beyond the call of duty when I screwed up and bought the wrong thing. As for the living conditions of the animals they were selling here, Im not an expert but they all seemed to be doing as well as animals in captivity do. Animals living in a pet store is just a sad state of affairs any way you cut it. Im also not sure what about this store would be considered ghetto. I wouldnt describe my neighborhood as a ghetto and Ive lived in a few.

Unfortunately this is my local pet store. The service is poor, the staff is unattentive and ill informed. Management was no better. They do not respect their customers, service is slow and if you need any assistance or have a question you would be better off going elsewhere, even if it is out of your way. I would recommend Petco on Flatbush and Utica Avenue. Their staff is knowledgable and very attentive. As stated by Mosheh_AM the store and staff are "GHETTO!!!!!". It is a shame... I was really a dedicated and loyal Petland customer for years, but will now be a dedicated and loyal Petco customer from now on due to my numerous bad experiences at this location over the last 5 years.

Im really not sure if managers or owners ever read these reviews, but if they do, this is for you: STOCK YOUR MERCHANDISE. This is a nice store, and frankly the only real decent local place to go for pet supplies other than dog biscuits, but they NEVER have what I need. Ive been there multiple times, and every time the shelf is empty. Its always its coming in tomorrow, or were expecting a shipment soon. Managers: your #1 job in order to keep your business afloat (business school 101?) is to have your marchandise in stock. enough said.

i know Petland Discounts doesnt care about a pets live, but few months ago i come face to face with the problem when customers and their pets where kick out of the store in 90 degree weather to wait for the vet, because the manager and his staff wouldnt handle a simple crowd. i confronted him about kicking the pets out in the heat and he told me his District Manager tells him to do that. REALLY PETLAND OR IS IT SLAUGHERLAND

This is one of worst pet stores EVER!!!!! I want there today to get some food and i looked at the cages were dirty urine and poo every where......The hamster were in poor conditions from fight wounds,Wet Tail......Every Pet was in bad conditions........I rather get any pet at petco and petsmart at least they treat there animals better......... Never buy a pet from Petland or Petland discount EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I recently went there to pick up some food for my lizard and the lack of professionalism was almost umbearable. They were "ghetto" and had hardly and respect for me and my need. I was interested in buying another lizard for companionship with the one I own and their attitude turned me off completely even though they were the only place to have the one i wanted in stock.

I like petland better than petco so I come here. everything is clean and in stock so I am happy. they are good if you have a simple question but you cant come here expecting to get knowledge about your dogs problems. I mean they are a discount pet store so what do you expect? Anyways I like them and im glad there is a petland here.

People are very nice, however, I made a return a week ago and my money still has not been refunded to me. Tried calling them multiple times in the past few days, nobody answers. Horrible customer service if you cant even pick up a phone. Very disappointed.

The staff here are really helpful, its true they have tattoos but they are still proffesional, the hamster i got from there is very healthy and doesnt even bite
