If youre here to scope out really specific items, you might actually have a good chance of finding it. If youre here to find regular brand choices for an item, I wouldnt suggest driving to Red Hook. I came in needing to buy a bag of flour and a ready made pie crust for Turkey day. What I saw was only one choice per item- the ready made pie crust was crumbling before my eyes, but the flour was a good organic brand which has produced excellent results. However, if I wanted a more generic brand for cheaper, Id have been out of luck. Because of the lack of choices, consumers are paying $$$ as much. My bag of flour cost me 3x the amount Im used to paying. Secondly, their cold cuts are very inferior to other markets. It doesnt taste fresh; in fact, we never finished it all. Theyre sliced too thickly and haphazardly placed in the wrappers. I will never recommend this department to anyone. The first time I was in the cheese department, I received top-notch service; the guy let me try a few, and was very patient and knowledgeable in the selections. The second time I visited, I wasnt even greeted with a smile- when I reached a crossroads in my decision process, he just blanked out and waited and waited. Also, the market itself is so gigantic that Ive gotten lost all three times Ive been here. Okay, Ill be the first to admit that I need GPS everywhere I go; but even with other markets, Ive adapted some sense of where I was headed. They desperately need to organize the aisles better so that I dont turn into a lab rat with its tail stuck in a trap. In response to their ridiculous markups, Im channeling rapper, Lil Jon: "Whaaattt?!"

Its an easy grocery shopping experience, which is nice when compared to shopping at, say, the downtown Brooklyn Trader Joes. Theres adequate parking and a great view, with nice seating at the store and a few good eateries nearby. The selection is great, the prices are hit or miss. Some things are more expensive than at other places in the general area, but they have lots of sale items, and on the whole its about average. The selection really is the reason to come though--they have some version of pretty much every grocery item I can think of. Theres a big produce section with everything from several kinds of squash to star fruit. Theres a big cheese section. Their butcher section is well stocked. Theres a health food section. Theres a dry goods section. There are lots of prepared foods. They have lots of fairway branded stuff, including nice pasta. Theres a big dairy section, and plenty of other refrigerated things. They roast coffee. The ice cream section isnt huge, but it has a bit of everything. Although I note that they used to carry Ciao Bella sorbet and theyve now stopped, which is annoying. The staff is friendly and generally good, although the last time I went the cashiers were more laconic than Id consider ideal--it took ages for them to get people checked out, and staff were standing and chatting rather than dealing with the lines of people. I agree with other reviewers who have said it seems to have gone downhill lately--it seems to be more in disarray. Could be related to the company going into bankruptcy. But overall its still worth including among ones grocery shopping stops.

I have shopped at this supermarket only a few times in the past because its not very close to my home. If you drive there is plenty of parking and if your commuting this location is definitely far from any public bus or train. This market has a huge assortment of food options in each department but the prices are not the cheapest. Comparing their prices to other supermarkets you definitely dont come to this supermarket if your main goal is to save money. However, this is the supermarket that you shop at for some of the freshest food. The produce, seafood and meat sections specifically in my opinion have a huge variety of options as well as some of the freshest food in the area. There are cheaper supermarkets available but you get what you pay for like with anything else. When I stop at this market I stick to options that I wouldnt be able to get in my regular supermarket. I avoid purchasing items like pasta and milk because these are common items that I can definitely get cheaper closer to home. I come here for the fresh fish and meat most of all.

This is a great destination marketplace for Brooklynites. You can spend the day in Rod Hook enjoying the great outdoor spaces and up-and-coming restaurant scene and grocery shop before heading home. Of course youll need a vehicle of sorts, as the nearest subway is quite a trek. The parking lot can get a bit crowded so carpool when possible. The selection of groceries and fresh produce is incredible. Prices are on the high side but bargains can be found. Think of this place as a slightly less expensive Whole Foods with a bit warmer and more charming personality and local feel. (Fairway is actually a chain.) Besides the produce, I enjoy the pickle and cheese selection, fresh fill-it-yourself bags of granola and the olive oil and vinegar room (tasting bread provided, though not frequently replenished). It can be a little confusing to navigate and crowded at times but its still one of my favorite supermarkets.

This is in my opinion the best and largest quality supermarkets In Brooklyn. (Better than shoprite and whole foods) They have their own parking lot, so parking is never a problem here. Fairway has a few locations In the city, so whenever I was in the city (Manhattan) I would always stop by, especially the one on a 125st, but now that they opened one in Brooklyn Im more of a regular here. I love their selection of cheese and meats, huge selection of teas, and coffee. I always find here something interesting to try for the first time, from new kinds of snacks, to different types of beer. Its always a fun shopping experience here. Pro bonus: bring your camera and enjoy the sunset on the waterfront with one of the nicer views of the statue of liberty. There are two parks close by the pier 44 garden, or the Louis Valentino, Jr. Park and Pier.

If it wasnt such a trip, I would do my weekly grocery shopping here. All of the produce is always fresh and the selection is vast. The layout of the store is a bit confusing, but its worth a walk around. They have a serve yourself olive bar. There is also a deli counter, fish counter, and cheese counter. The workers at each of these counters are always friendly and always willing to give a recommendation and even offer samples. The bakery section offers scones that are to die for! They have an entire organic section which is reasonably priced. They have specialty items from other countries as well. Besides all of the specialty items, they also sell all the general things you would find in an ordinary supermarket. I love Fairway Market!

I consider this to be the best grocery store in Brooklyn. For starters, its in a beautiful location. Its very nice to take a break from shopping and enjoy a cup of coffee on the waterfront. They also offer decent barbecue fare during the warm weather months. As for the actual groceries, theres an excellent selection throughout the store. Produce is generally very good. The deli is good (their calabrese ham is outstanding). Theres an excellent cheese counter, too. The meat counter offers a very good variety and there are often bargains to be found. Decent beer selection. Prices are competitive. Generally better than Whole Foods, but the produce and meat at Whole Foods is also a notch above in terms of quality.
