Since moving close by, this has become my new default Whole Foods. Back when I lived in the heart of Hells Kitchen, I used to go to the Whole Foods at Columbus Circle. Shopping there was incredibly stressful, due to the fact that a horde of tourists swarm that location, looking to buy food to bring to Central Park. Luckily, there is none of that at this Chelsea location. This Whole Foods is actually probably the smallest location that Ive been in the city. All the things are situated on one floor, but the square footage is small. For starters, the hot bar section is pretty limited. I wasnt really able to find a whole bunch of stuff to choose from, but being that its Whole Foods, anything you pick is usually pretty tasty. Once you step inside, you start out at the produce section. This section takes about 1/3 of the store. Move west, and youll pass the meat and bread section, as well as the checkout area. The other half of the grocery store has pretty much everything else. From dry to frozen foods, everything is here, but just on a smaller scale in comparison to say, the Columbus Circle Whole Foods. Im not too complex of a grocery shopper, so I can get by with what they have here, but if I did frequently cook, then Id probably opt to go to the Bowery location instead. On the bright side, this place isnt packed with tourists, so you can actually shop in peace. Ill take that any day.

This place is huuuuuge. You seriously have to be an athlete who enjoys training a lot. Using a groupon, I checked out the Climbing Wall (most impressive one Ive seen), Boxing Ring, and Pool. There are a ton of classes. There was even a class simulating surfing (extra $) that looked pretty cool - but I dont think it actually teaches you how to surf, but works out the same muscles as if you were. I guess my only gripe might be because it is actually too big. You have to travel a bit to the locker rooms (which in themselves are pretty nice - free razors for the guys). I didnt know where everyone gets their robes so I was walking through a large part of the gym without my shirt on after exiting the pool. =/

The layout of the store is absolutely terrible. Makes you wonder if whoever built the place had any intention of it being a store to begin with. And on top of that, in order to get to the health section of the store you have to Leave The Store. So much for a one stop and shop destination. Which I guess isnt a particularly bad thing if you happened to be an evil doer, since you can literally walk out the door with whatever you have and no one says anything. Thats what I did, because I needed to find the health section which happened to be in another side of the building, though I did actually come back to pay for everything. Also The fruit section is super limited Place sucks

There is something to Whole Foods over charging in their stores. At this location, 14th Street and 2nd Avenue, Ive witnessed the butchers using different scales to weigh the meat that I purchase. Usually the purchase is 10 - 12.00 per pound for boneless beef ribs. All of the scales should be exactly calibrated, so that one scale does not say one thing and another does not give you another result. It smells and so with that thought in mind, Im just practicing my typing and letting the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs know about their scales. Would not have been necessary but the customer service manager said, yes we overcharge but the CEO apologized on Facebook.

Walked in around 10pm and the place had a terrible smell like left over raw fish on a beach. Its smaller than other WHOLE FOODS and was not well stocked. Much to much room on the shelves. The staff was cleaning one of the aisles and all the dry goods was all over the floor and impossible to walk down. The take-out ready made food was already missing. The bakery had plenty of nice looking cupcakes and cakes. The check out is a straight line with the color patterns to reach the registers but this part of the store is very narrow and leads to the cutlery for those choosing to dine in. It made it hard to walk out of the store, since there was not enough room to pass by.

Smaller then most and the quality of service lacks by comparison. Prepared foods section is not good, limited, poorly prepared foods. Oatmeal is way too thick, sausage undercooked, eggs over cooked. And...no seating area to eat. But I go nearly every morning because its convenient. My biggest complaint....customer service is seriously lacking. Ive been nearly run over by their stock persons, never see a smile, and this morning at the height of rush hour they had one cashier with people buying carts full of groceries because of the coming storm. Disappointed to say the least because Im a big WF fan.

Visiting from California, I was recently in the 7th Avenue store and found the checkout to be a stress-inducing experience. In the interest the well-being of my friends and colleagues in Manhattan, I have a suggestion that I think will help. In checkout, when the grating robot voice directs customers to registers, rather than repeating "REGISTER ONE. REGISTER SEVEN." etc., cant you soften it and shorten it a bit, maybe a soft voice just saying one or seven instead of constantly repeating the same thing... I think it would be a great improvement over the über-commanding way its set up now.

One of the smaller Whole foods in the city, but the location is good for an area that is void of food markets. The entrance and exit is so small that there is constantly a bottlenecking with people coming in and out. Whole foods is overpriced, especially in the fruit sections. If you want some fruits, theres a couple of fruit stands around that sell for much cheaper. Mainly shop here when Im craving for some snacks like Tortilla chips and a drink, but shopping here everyday for regular grocery runs is like paying an arm and a leg for NYC rent.

Cashiers are always bery helpful and willing to walk with you if a sale item isnt ringing up at the right price. Better yet, if an item doesnt scan or is missing a price, you get the item for free! Its true that this space is small, but its very cozy. I never buy anything here that isnt store brand unless there is specifically a sale. For example their seaweed here is at least $10 for 10 sheets of seaweed while I can get the same for 2.99 at H-Mart. When it comes to your staples such as eggs, milk, flour and the like, this is a good place to go.

The best part of the Chelsea whole foods isnt exactly inside the whole foods. Located on the other side of the corner up 24th Street, is only dedicated stand alone whole body storefront in NYC. This whole foods location itself is probably the most awkward in terms of layout. Lines are also strange as the express line stretches out during rush hour to create a wall between the bakery and the entire store. But so far it seems to have everything all the other wholefoods have, just a little more cramped.
