This was my worst warehouse club shopping experience ever. Ok, so I just moved from Astoria to Hoboken. I used to live just a few blocks from the Costco in Astoria/LIC which was so convenient. When I found out the nearest Costco was pretty far away, I figured BJs would be good enough. First, its more cluttered, dirty, messy, etc. than any Costco Ive ever been to. They need to hire some employees who actually care about how their workplace looks. The place seems more dimly lit too which just makes it seem even more depressing. Second, I didnt like the selection of products. They dont really have their own private label brand and focus more on providing the major brands. I actually like the quality/value of Costcos Kirkland private label brand and would rather have that than more expensive major brands. Third, the checkout process was taking so long that I just gave up, left my cart off to the side and left. I was looking around and there was no sense of urgency from the cashiers to process transactions quickly. At Costco, they generally have 2 people at each line -- 1 at the register and the other sorting the cart, scanning the larger packages with the remote scanner, etc. This makes even the busiest of crowds at Costco move through very efficiently. Another factor in the slow checkout process is that BJs sells smaller quantity packages than Costco -- this may seem like a great thing but consumers but it also invites a lot of customers doing more general shopping who are turned off by the large quantity packaging at Costco. This also makes the average number of items in a transaction higher which obviously takes longer to scan. Fourth, if you live in Hoboken, you have to drive south through the streets that take cars in and out of the Holland Tunnel. This can really suck since often times the people going in/out of the tunnel dont care about blocking the intersection after the light turns red. This was a big 2 hour waste of my life from which the only thing I learned was to never come to this BJs ever again. Ill be keeping my Costco membership and driving out to Clifton.

Ok, this is a review of the physical location, *not* the online ordering process. BJs, like Costco, offers great quality at great prices, but you have to buy in bulk. Compared to Costco, I think the quality is just a little lower (though still very good), and the quantities you have to buy arent as big (with Costco we always had to split things up with friends, but with BJs we can consume everything ourselves). I think the $50 yearly membership is totally worth it. You end up saving a ton of money over other supermarkets in the region. Now, the downside is that this BJs can get very crowded. Best to avoid going there at nights or weekend afternoons if possible. I do my shopping in the morning and find almost no lines and a very smooth shopping experience!

Worst online retailer I have ever gone through. After more than a month and more than 7 conversations with reps, BJs finally acknowledged that the shipment was lost, but did not compensate me, other than a credit of the retail price. I specifically told every rep that I wanted the product and not the credit, but to no surprise of my own, it did not happen as promised by the reps. In fact, the manager said that they cant issue returns, which was news to me and the other reps I talked to. They told me to re-order online. It was a Christmas gift and I may not have it before Valentines day. If you want reliability to not use BJs. If you want to spend more than 5 hours on the phone and over email, just to end where you started, this is the place for you.

Im totally disappointed with your service. Our company made several orders online for the Christmas Gift Baskets for our clients. After a while I found out that all baskets that were sent came with no information about the sender. So now I sent gifts to clients and they dont even know that package is a gift from our company. I used other companies before such as Sams Club and Costco, never had any problems. No more BJs! I called to customer service they hang up twice. They open location by my house will never go there!

They dont have a wide variety here, but once you know what they have you make do with your options and it is useful to buy in bulk. As a mother myself, I find it hilarious that the lines here were so long on Mothers Day! Its a decent store with decent staff and a decent restroom. The location is pretty convenient for New Yorkers who drive and shop in Jersey and its right next to Shop Rite, which is a pretty Good supermarket. Nothing to brag about; just know what to expect and youll enjoy your experience here.

9 months since my last visit and the checkout is still horrible. People are peeling off the coupons like dumbs. Only 4 customers ahead off me but i was in the line for 30 minuets. No employer takes care of the shopping cart. You will have difficulty to find one when you enter the store. Checking out is a disaster. Be prepared to wait 20 minutes. Why wont BJs just automatically apply the coupon as Costco does?

Only good thing about the store is that its 3.5% tax. The café has been closed now for several weeks you cant get a drink cant get a coffee nothing. It looks like they will be closing the store and building another luxury high-rise in its place. . Its the most run down rundown BJs Ive ever seen if they have what youre looking for you can usually get a better price when ShopRite next door has a sale .

Convenient for some things. Good prices on staples generally. I will often go to buy brands of goods that I had previously purchased only to find that they are no longer carried. Lines are often long. Carts are often banged up and the self-check out machines often need service. I shop there because I save on some goods but otherwise am not at all fond of the store.

They didnt let me in because of my dog, mind you my dog is small & was in a stroller. Im conscious pets are not allowed to walk around a store. Thats why he was in a stroller & I had no plan intended to take him out in the store Ive gone to many other stores with my dog in the stroller & had zero problems. Never coming to this BJs ever again.

No matter which warehouse store you go to, you save huge amounts. I have done side by side price, by weight and I know for a fact I have saved tens of thousands over the last 10 yrs. Even if I went once a month and saved only $100 each times. 100 x 12, 1200. 1200 x 10= $12,000. I go more and shop more but just an example

Rude cashiers and the prices and quality arent great either. Youre better off just driving 30 minutes to Costco for much better service and prices. Also, unrelated to the above review, but Ive also seen some really rude customers who end up berating the cashiers that are more reasonable.

Customer Service is horrible! So are the cashiers. Worse checkout experiences and the cashiers are slow. Complaining is pointless. The management seems just as disinterested as those they oversee. You will spend as much time on line as you do shopping. Self checkout here is also a joke.
