I went into the Howell location looking for a guinea pig only leave quite upset. Many of the animals seem neglected, guinea pigs with severely overgrown nails and crusted shut eyes, a green cheek conure in serious need of veterinarian attention with crusty nostrils and feathers in disarray, reptile tanks that were sadly overcrowded and undersized. Last time I visited this shop I purchased a guinea pig purely to get her out of the poor living conditions. She was clearly sick, her nails were curled under and embedded into her paw pads as well as she had a hard time walking. When I inquired about her condition I was treated as a problem, told she was fine, and that they would not let me see her closer unless I purchased her. Aside from this horrible animal treatment I received very poor customer service. The two employees did not seem to care that I obviously needed help and continued their obnoxious conversation at the register while I waited. In addition, the store was quite dirty and dimly lit. Overall I feel that action is required at the Howell location to help these animals. The management obviously does not care.

Great store,awesome staff that is very helpful and knowledgable.They actually do rescue and adoptions for many different types of animals in all their departments. The animals looked super healthy and happy. The quality of their animals is much better than any of the other stores in the area.Everything that I have purchased here has done much better than stuff I have purchased in the corporate box pet stores.You can tell Pet Asylum actually cares about their animals and customers,not just making a sale.Hands down the best place around and the only place I will shop at. Thanks again for the great work you guys do at Pet asylum.

Great selection of fresh water fish. Better variety than the local big box pet stores. I always prefer to shop local small businesses before hitting the big box stores. The fish prices were certainly in line with the big pet stores. Its always better to deal with a knowledgeable business owner than an hourly worker at a chain store. I bought a fish that was a little too aggressive for my tank, and the owner Mike exchanged it 3 days later no questions asked, without a receipt. Ive been there several times and never had a problem with the quality of the fish I purchased.

Great store!!! Friendly & knowledgeable staff. Im very happy with the fish, plants & supplies I purchased there. The fish are healthy & thriving:) I definitely recommend this store!!!! Update: 3 months later ALL my fish& plants are alive and thriving:) Ive since been back many times. I purchased more fish & cherry shrimp,they are also doing well and growing fast! This is the 1st time Ive ever kept live plants and cherry shrimp, but with the help and advice of the staff Ive established beautiful aquariums! I recommend everybody check out this store!!! :)

LOVE this store! I have no clue why there are some bad reviews! Im in the store a lot almost weekly, buying fish food, rabbit food and dog food! All the animals are happy and healthy and most are rescues or owner surrenders and they give them a second chance at life ( I know this because I got my bunny here :) ) Very knowledgeable stuff and very friendly. Petco and PetSmart down the road have no competition with a family run place. I have learned a lot about proper fish care from them. Keep rocking Pet Asylum!!

The guy Mike knows a lot about his fish. By the way the fish are you can see they are taken care of. Unlike the petstores like Petco and petsmart. These fish I brought are thriving. Ive even taught my angel to eat out of my hands. Great prices and place. Definitely come here!!

I went to Pet Asylum for the first time yesterday. It was sort of small but duable. The aninals seemes happy, healthy, and good for a purchase. The staff was very helpful and knoweledgeable which made the experience better. Go to Pet Asylum theyre GREAT!!!

This store is packed with great fish and the most knowledgeable expert around. I drove all the way from Highlands and am returning for another Ram for my tank! Ill bring my cat to see all the birds and mice! Way cool! Way healthy fish! Way friendly people!

An old school pet store that sells just all different kinds of animals, rodents, fish and reptiles. There not a chain, so there not limited to a certain amount of stuff they could sell. I bought 4 gerbils there and there still living today.

Amanda help up pick out a great pair of pets. She was very helpful and patient with my children. The animals seem healthy and well cared for. We travel from East Brunswick to the store in Howell and its definitely worth the drive!

Terrible place to visit. alwful smell and owner is really rude. My boyfriend bought a snake and rabbit here years ago before place started to become this huge dump that over charges. Whole family hates this place.
