I found this store to be very cute and quaint, in the middle of an upper-class neighbourhood, in conservative northeastern Monmouth County. Upon my arrival at the store, no-one greeted me. Two women spent the entire half-hour I was there in personal, exclusive conversation (not welcoming any interruption). Another person came in, apparently a regular who was greeted as a friend and still no-one noticed or talked to me. From this experience and the shops advertised stocking and sales policies, I see River Road Books as very cold, cliqueish, meant only for well-known locals and full of only the usual variety of books, with little to recommend the shop over any other. Most other small, independent bookshops in NJ are noted for their friendly, personal atmosphere-- this one is not. I doubt I shall shop much at River Road Books in future.

River Road Books is one-of-a-kind! There are so few independent bookstores left, and this is right in the heart of the two river area. Community is key to this store, and they embody every aspect of it. I am a regular customer and they are constantly decorating for the seasons, as well as adding personal recommendations for each book an employee has read. Must stop by if you are at the Jersey shore!

This is the kind of bookstore that every community needs. The owners are knowledgeable and friendly, their childrens section is terrific and welcoming and the store itself is just lovely. Author signings, workshops for kids and activities for all ages that celebrate reading make this store special. You dont want to miss it.

What I really like about this store is that if they dont have a book you are looking for, they will quickly offer to order it for you and the turnaround time is quick. This a great option for holiday shopping- go on Amazon, get your wish list and then call RRB and have them order your books. Shop local yall.
