I went and visted all three stores, Route 22, South Plainfield, and Elizabeth and what I found that the pricing of clothing and other used items are too high, you can to to a regular store and find the same thing brand new and cheaper. A pair of warm up pants because they still hand the tag on it, they were asking $10.00, the same pants you could get cheaper in the regular store on sale. Also, they had a canister set for $10.00 used and the same set in Wal-Mart new for $8.00. I dont know who is doing the pricing or how they come with their figures but they need to re-visit the pricing. If not, they will not be in business long. Christmas is over and you can get the same thing on sale after the Holidays anywhere from 50 -80% off. Their prices are too high and it is not the Christmas season. This is one store I will tell my friends to stay away from, because they are trying to get rich off the community when things are being donated and used. My other concern, most of the stores had employees that did not speak english, Yes, even in a thrift store, people have questions about a product. I guess you are suppose to purchase without asking any questions. The one unique thing I did like, they way they hang the pants in the stores, it is easy to read the sizes. I went and I saw, and I guess this store will not be in my favorite listing. I hope they listen to the community, by way of letting them know the prices are too high for a used thrift store.

The previous reviewer makes good points. The prices on many items are frequently all over the map, almost like gas prices. Its not uncommon to find 3 identical items in three different areas of the store, at three different prices. Its like Unique has a team of people doing this and the only standard for what something might cost lies within ones own judgement. And since the Unique workers dont know the orgins of many items, they often end up costing more than retail. Then theres the frequent overestimation of value issues, but Im not even going into that... Still I like the stores though. Generally, the prices are good. They have a 25% off everything sale every Monday. There is enough room to move around and peruse, (unless its a national holiday, then theres a 50% off sale and the stores become sardine cans). Its a comfortable environment. Everyone is either so busy and/or disinterested that I dont get that uncomfortable watchfulness that I feel in some stores. If anything, I feel like a nuisance to the workers as they rush back and forth across the store, reloading the shelves. I hope they stick around.

I love Unique BUT the Elizabeth, NJ store aggravates the heck out of me sometimes. Their prices are often too high for the item offered. Today, I went in and a set of hangers were unpriced--you cant purchase the item if theres no tag; you have to wait til it is reshelved. But the manager was nice enough to price it right then and there. Kool! Then I found a fleece blanket to make stuffed dolls with for my business. I saw the price tag for $7.99. Got to the register and there are two tags on the blanket--the other tag is for $6.99! So, the manager wont sell it to me even though Im willing to pay the higher price. I was soooo PISSED OFF. I told him he can keep the 25+ dollars worth of items, and I stormed out of the dumb store. How stupid to lose a long-time customer and a $25+ sale because of a careless mix-up . . . . Darn it, had I seen the extra tag, I could have removed it without them even knowing. Well, just wasnt meant for me to have the items discount-day or not . . . I saved myself some dough.

I have been shopping at unique since it opened..the prices have gone up considerably..but if you like to hunt for bargains, this is the go to place. for me, it is crossing a bridge and paying 6 bucks to park. we need one in staten island...we are the only boro without a unique. i know there was one, but it closed when the rented was raised..please consider opening on staten in another location...before staten islanders walk through your doors, we have already spend 20 bucks!

Hands down if your willing to look they sell really nice stuff sometimes even new but the only problem I have is the security guard I mean the dude is basically stalking you when your trying to look at the stuff and hes looking at you as you where to steal or something I mean didnt you know security guard whatever your name is that the money I spend here goes straight into your paycheck so you need to chill before you end up losing that paycheck.

This store engages in sales tax fraud - charging customers 7% and PAYING only 3.5% to the state of NJ. I have sued them for this. I suggest anyone that has spent considerable amounts at the Elizabeth store to do the same- you are entitled to 3 times the excess amount taken due to Consumer Fraud Act. In my case I had spent $7,000 over the coarse of 5 years which is $245.00 taken from me times 3 for consumer fraud = $735.00 amount of lawsuit.

Nice store, staff is rude management especially Paul is the one who make all the prices, and he is also one that take things like the other people that work in the back down stairs. Lynn the General Manager is very rude. Over all you can still find a deal in there, they bathroom is horrible, they never clean it

I think they have good prices overall. The placement of racks could be a bit more organized to navigate easier, but everything else seems reasonable. Ive never come across anything that seemed over priced.
