The Coffee Ethic is Springfield’s only truly professional purveyor of single origin coffee. In fact, one would be gravely stressed to name another coffee shop of commensurate quality, style, or service in the whole of the state. The Coffee Ethic, as its name suggests, distinguishes itself in its embodiment of the cultural ethos that has developed in recent years through the efforts of the noblest workers in the coffee industry. In supporting the responsible stewardship of the land, the diligent cultivation of quality, and exemplifying a care for both the individual and broader community, The Coffee Ethic has proven itself more than just a Coffee shop. It is a kind of homecoming whenever I walk through The Coffee Ethic’s doors. I hope that you will experience this feeling for yourself.

Never again. Definitely not worth the $5.25 I paid for it. The guy that helped me, ignored me for about 3 minutes while he made a cup of coffee for someone. Not a huge deal, but a little acknowledgment would be nice. I bought a latte and paid for it. After I ordered, two other people came up behind me and ordered. He then filled their order, and they left before even starting to make my coffee. Extremely rude. 13 minutes later (I timed it) I got my 12 oz latte. Total time was about 16 minutes from the time I walked in the door with no one in front of me. The coffee wasnt great. Almost terrible. Will never go there again and cant recommend it.

...BECAUSE THIS PLACE IS A FACE MELTER! Literally. My face. It melted. Right off. By far the best coffee Ive ever had, only to be served by the finest of beings. The regular clientele is a reflection of the draw to the place and its impeccable service and knowledge of coffee drinks. It’s nothing to see celebrity types such a world class cyclist, Ben Folds, combatants named Chuck, and other hand-shaking-baby-kissers. Don’t be had by other downtown coffee serving imitators. This place is legit, and I hear their smoothies are great. Now, if I could only have my face back so I could enjoy another cup of El Palacio. Do it.

Seeing other reviews makes me wonder what it was about the one time I visited the Coffee Ethic. I used to frequent Redezvous, but it closed, and I sometimes get a hot drink from the Mud House. Anyway, the one time I visited was early in the morning. My coffee was served pretty quickly, but since it was "to go," it was in a foam cup with a lid. There was no sleeve or anything to make the cup easy to carry considering it contained a hot drink, which I couldnt sweeten or put cream into. The one member of staff, as I recall, was not very friendly. Coffee Ethic got my business once, and thats all theyll get.

They are extremely over-priced and have a limited menu. They spend so much time making your coffee that it is cold by the time you receive it and they refuse to microwave it because that "ruins the taste". Their regular coffee is also over priced and the most bitter coffee I have ever had. They also do not offer any creamer, milk, sugar, honey, etc to sweeten it. With limited options, high prices, and lack of conveniences, I definitely do not recommend The Coffee Ethic to college students.

The Coffee Ethic more than made up for my coffee wants. The location is off a cute little park square, and the decor is simple and warm. A minimalist menu indicated that they are more about quality than glamour, and when I ordered a macchiato, the barista cautioned that it is "traditional" style. He was right about that: he delivered a macchiato that was comparable with the ones I sampled in Italy. If I ever return to Springfield, Ill make sure this is on my list of repeat attractions.

One of the few shops left in the US to have a Clover brewing system, The Coffee Ethic doesnt just respect the coffee shop form and feel but they most importantly do justice to their coffee. Coffee brewed through the Clover machine is a cup to be remembered. Shots of espresso pulled here are smooth and balanced. The staff is knowledgable about their beans (PTs Coffee Roasting Co.) and carry a good selection of single origin. Stop by, sit & enjoy a cup of quality coffee.

By far my favorite coffee shop in town. With some of the best coffee from farmers that they work directly with, the employees they have provide excellent customer service, and the atmosphere is great to get work done in or hang out with your friends. They also serve some of the best brews of beer I have ever had along with whiskey and wine for those of you who like a little bit more class ;). If you are in the southwest Missouri area you have to check this place out.

If youre anywhere near Springfield, check out the vibe of the mid-renovation downtown area: funky shops, brew pubs, art galleries. But definitely hit the Coffee Ethic on the square. Get a great clover produced coffee and wander around and enjoy the beautiful design of the place. An extremely well thought out urban space. Theres a big walk thru door to the tech branch of the public library, so you can go back and forth.

Exposed brick, reclaimed wood floors, and excellent shots of PTs coffee. All the baked goods are made in-house; the chocolate chunk cookie is heavy on the chocolate, always a plus. The building materials are largely salvaged / re-purposed; be sure to check out the explanatory placards if this sort of thing interests you. Lots of seating and a roomy quiet atmosphere.

When I first moved back to Springfield after living on the East Coast, I went through what some might call "culture shock." However, after stepping foot in the Coffee Ethic for the first time in February I began to see signs of life. From the design to the staff to the coffee, this place is top notch and is a haven for transplants who have moved here from near and far.

Hands down the best coffee shop in Springfield. Atmosphere is comfortable, decor is very interesting, the staff is friendly and knowledgable, and most importantly, their coffee is fantastic. Some of the best brewed coffee and espresso drinks I have ever had. I live in a much bigger city now and still struggle to find anything here that measures up to the coffee ethic.

High quality, expensive coffee that is all about being hip and now. The place is really calm and relaxing if youre there when the rush is gone, but the only problem I have is that their wifi is super slow [as of 3 months ago, unsure if it has been changed at this time], which makes it hard to study here if you need internet.

A consistent highlight of the SGF coffee scene, The Coffee Ethic is a spacious, minimal establishment for quality coffee and draft beer. The most centrally located shop in Springfield, the atmosphere is ideal for light work and conversation, with relaxed seating and a window open to the town center.

Great coffee, and obvious reasons for the award of best house roast in Springfield. Friendly and helpful staff. Roast in house. Traditional drink options in traditional sizes. Furniture is all made from reprised woods and all art is different every month featuring the local artists.

For a year now the Ethic has been one of my favorite places to meet. The coffee is the greatest and Tom, Jim, and the staff are the friendliest around. Its kind of like the Cheers of coffee shops. After being there a few times everyone knows your name. They know their stuff.
