Ive only been in there once, truth be told I didnt even know they were there until my now ex told me about it. I have my permit and have been looking for my first firearm so we stopped in there. Its been some months so I dont remember the name of the gentleman who helped us but he was very friendly and willing to help. He asked me lots of questions to get a feel of what I am looking for and actively listened not only to my answers but to my questions (which he answered thoroughly) as well. He had me hold several firearms on the list I had to see how they felt and advised the best way to know if I like something is to actually fire it, there was a gun show coming up soon after my visit so he also advised to go to that and see if the vendors had any of the firearms on my list and shoot them if they did so I would know if I actually liked them or not. Fantastic advice! He was not condescending or rude at all and quite frankly spent a great deal of time answering my questions and helping me in spite of knowing up front that I wouldnt be purchasing that day. Im writing this because I went to look at their website and was shocked to see all these horrible reviews when my experience was nothing like any of them. Will be back in there soon to purchase. :)

I agree with Dan. These guys barely acknowledge you walked into their store. The following is why you should reconsider dealing with this business. 1) They can’t be bothered, don’t greet you; don’t look up from their PC and act like you are the dumbest person on earth when they talk to you. Craig (long hair) has the worst attitude I have come across. The guy with the beard and glasses has good CS skills, but he doesn’t make any decisions. 2) I asked them to quote me a price on ordering a gun (DW VBOB) and they never got back to me. So, I bought that gun and another on line. It was easy and I didn’t have to deal with these guys. 3) Also, beware of what they tell you. Letting their gunsmith work on your gun may void your manufacturer’s warranty. The gunsmith is good, but the shop points fingers or just doesn’t care if something goes wrong. Their service recovery is "so what". 4) They may have some neat products that you cant find at Gander Mountain, but their service is one of the worst I have seen. Plus their prices are nothing to shout about. 5) Also, no reason to pay their $50 for a transfer. Burnsville Pistol charges $20.

I stumbled into J&S looking to have some action work done on a Savage. The quantity of taticool AR parts abounding the walls was second only to the nuts at Bills. Service was lack-luster and the staff seemed all to interested in making a sale, rather than answering questions about what *I* wanted. Not to mention the attempts to fill my head with arbitrary bull $&*% was not needed, nor welcome. I guess 11.5yrs in the Army, 8 of them behind an M24, is considered falling off a turnip truck to these guys. I a fully aware that the fire-arm industry is the ONLY industry in the US that thrives on providing the worst possible customer service, but until consumers demand better, it will never change. Thankfully I am not so hard up for money, nor their prices spectacularly low, that I dont go elsewhere and pay a bit more for better service. I am quite positive that the Gander MTN across 35 thanks J&S staff each and every fiscal year-end. I for one will never set foot in that shop again. Furthermore, I hope other consumers will go into J&S, realize they are nothing special, and spend their money elsewhere.

Stopped in on a Saturday looking for a youth stock for my Marlin 795. Id recently purchased one for my daughter and the length of pull was too long for her to shoot comfortably. I inquired at the counter whether I would be better off modifying the factory composite stock, or purchasing a youth stock. Greg was eager to help. He did some looking, let her hold a few long guns they had on hand, and measured her length of pull. They took down my name/number and said they would call me "sometime next week". About two hours later, I got a return call letting me know they found a youth stock for me, and it was about the same price as parts/labor to modify mine. He has to confirm its compatible with my 795 and said he will call Monday. Id read all the negative customer service reviews here and was certainly surprised when my experience was nothing like that at all. Well be back.

I just called these people to ask if they stocked any barrels at this store. The guy comes up with a smart Alec remark, asking me if I wanted a tank barrel. I bought a rifle from here before and I wish I could take my money back, not because of the rifle but because of their lack of customer service. He couldve just asked me what kind of barrel I was looking for but he decided to try and make me feel like an idiot. I dont even know why I called because Ive been there a couple times and have always been treated like Im not even there or like I know nothing and the long haired guy knows it all. The only time I didnt get treated like an idiot was when I bought the rifle and even then the customer service was very poor. I think they frankly dont care about the customer. Needles to say, I will never shop at this place again and advise others to stay away.

If you want to be ignored and treated like crap, J & S is the place to go. I have been in the store on several occasions and on each time was treated with exceptionally poor customer service and indifference, often being ignored and walked away from in the middle of asking the the so called "help" questions about their products. Bottom line, if I am going to drop a thousand bucks on a new gun, it sure as hell is not going to be from someone who treats their customers like second rate ignorant trash. I will travel the extra mileage to purchase a firearm from someone who treats their customers with a bit of integrity. Not only will I never go back, but I am telling everyone I know how bad their service is and how poorly I was treated. Good luck staying in business J & S, youre going to need it in this economy.

This is what a custom gun shop is supposed to be. Very knowledgeable employees and a great selection of firearms. In comparison to Cabelas and Gander, they rate at the top. Cabelas is great but a little too big and a bit of a drive either way from the south metro. Gander Mountain staffs a large collection of part time employees who are very underqualified. There are a couple of good employees at Gander such as Duffy, but I have to wonder if hes the guy who left the poor review for J&S on Sept 23, 2011. After buying more than a few firearms at Gander, Im done being ignored and undervalued. J&S has always been fair and respectful and thus, has all my business. I am unable to rate at 5 stars due to hours of operation, but thats just one small negative while their feathered neighbors have many.
